A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Voting Booth

?The Readiness Effect?

Over the past couple of days I’ve noticed a voting trend emerging that I and some others predicted might happen this election cycle that I have dubbed, for lack of a better term, “The Readiness Effect”

The prediction was; that a lot of Obama supporters, when all is said and done, standing alone in the voting booth, would vote McCain.

Now before everyone starts jumping all over me about race or even calling me a racist this prediction had nothing to do with race or the “Bradley Effect” quit the contrary, it has everything to do with readiness to lead and the comfort level of the individual tasked with the awesome responsibility of choosing the most qualified person to lead this great country, hence the “The Readiness Effect”

You see, the thinking was thus… after getting all the mileage from Family, Friends, Co-Workers, and the Cool Kids for supporting Obama – standing there in the booth and asking yourself:

Who do I trust to protect this country?

Who do I trust to have the experience in dealing with the problems facing this country?

Who can I trust to put country before politics?

The answer is clearly John McCain.

Now this “The Readiness Effect” obviously doesn’t count for the hyper partisans on the far left who’s extreme philosophy, ego, and hatred for everything center left on down to far right will never allow them to vote any other way. No! “The Readiness Effect” applies mostly to center left Democrats and Independents and seems to be already taking affect.

Yesterday, I heard a great story from a friend who describes herself as a “Legacy Democrat” she says that everyone in her family has been a registered Democrat as far back as she can remember – parents, grandparents, great-grandparents… you get the picture. Well the other day, her and four of her friends, all proud Nevada Democrats piled into the car and together went to early vote for Obama.

On the way to their polling place, she said they were all very excited but she kept having this funny feeling in her stomach. Upon entering the voting booth, she said, the anxiety worsened and standing there poised to cast her vote a little voice or call it instinct began gnawing away at this life long Democrat (life long – well she’s only 35) She finally said “I can’t do it… I can’t vote for Obama, he’s just not ready” and voted for McCain.

She said she was shocked walking out of the polling place, she didn’t think she would ever vote for a Republican… Ever!!!

On the ride home with her four friends the mood was a bit somber I think she even called it sobering. About halfway home she let the cat out of the bag, so to speak, and told her friends she had voted for McCain and her reasons for doing so. Their reaction was shocking, even to her, all but one said they had done the same thing and for the same reasons.

Needless to say I was happy to see my theory was more than just an educated guess but I was also reminded of just how awe-inspiring the human condition is, as easy as it is to get swept up in the hype and excitement of the moment when it really comes down to it people have a great capacity to slow down and make rational decisions… at least for the most part.

My hope is the this “The Readiness Effect” becomes the rule that changes the outcome of this race and not just the few isolated incidents I’ve heard about. If McCain wins and that win is attributed to the “The Readiness Effect” I’m sure the press will call it a phenomenon, a fluke, or racism but the simple fact is when standing face to face with a decision of this magnitude the choice is often made for you!

So here’s a few links to share with your friends. If you email these to everyone you know then maybe they’ll get spread around.

For the “Readiness Effect” to really come into play and overcome people’s emotional tendency to support Obama’s popular appeal and his message of “hope & change” people have to have some stronger reasons to feeel uneasy about him. These ought to help make your average middle of the road Democrats feel a lot more uneasy.

Obama tells Joe the Plumber he wants to “spread his wealth around”.

BTW “spreading the wealth around” is a basic tenet of marxism.

I stayed in the booth along time in those elections, despite, being a democrat and in 1988, I was a county chair, but in both cases I chickened out.

In 2004 I voted for Dubya and I ain’t going back.

I have never in my 27 years of existence seen so many Christians of different denominations from Baptists to Catholics joining together in prayer for a single cause.

While the metaphysical can never be tested scientifically I personally know the effect of prayer on a personal level.

I have to accept that with so many praying for God’s will to be done in this election that no matter the outcome it fits his greater plan.

One of the great joys of Christianity is we don’t have to place hope in anything of this world.

    With that said vote McCain.

    • Vegas_Rick

I too have seen the power of prayer. And, I know sooooo many people who are praying over this.

      • awtherfrd

The best part about prayer is knowing that you are offending a liberal.

    This campaign is a disaster.

Your thoughts as to readiness are on point — but McCain hasn’t made that his message. He has said it a few times, but the campaign has focused much more on Acorn, Ayers, Joe the Plumber, and whatever they thought was the hot topic of the week.

I was watching part of an Obama stump speech today and noticed that he differentiated himself from McCain by saying that the people want to hear about healthcare, the economy, jobs, foreclosures, etc. Obama didn’t go on and provide any details on his plan, he had simply acknowledged that is what people want to hear about. And that is the sound bite that tends to be played over and over every hour on the news shows, so people are under the impression that those are the topics Obama is focused on.

This election will be a case study on how to run a campaign and how not to run a campaign.

I was a Hillary supporter and was thinking of actually voting for McCain until Palin was picked–she is no feminist, she’d take us all backwards! She’s just silly and a real loose cannon. We still don’t have the facts on her birthin’ that last baby, probably was her daughter’s, since Bristol was home with mono for 5 months. Yes, and what pregnant mother would be housed with alongside another kid with mono, nobody knew Palin was pregnant, Come on this is all too fishy, now the abuse of power and the lies, lies, lies!

As a community organizer, with responsibilities and I worked with Senators McCain and Biden in 1994, on national legislation, as well as non binding resolutions and a Presidential proclamation. etc.

I have already voted for Obama/Biden and done so proudly and will work to make VA oh so blue, just like the mountains here!

McCain campaign has gone so negative and with so many lies first Palin, then Joe the Plumber, planted, most recently that sicko campaign worker, Ashley Todd.

But you get what you give out—trailer trash!

The John McCain I ‘m seeing now is not the John McCain I knew then, yes people change but not that badly.

He’s not got the temperment to be a leader, has never been a leader! Palin has no experience and her state newspaper endorsed Obama, they outta know!

Is that we do have the comfort of knowing that no matter what happens, God had a reason for it. It’s in God’s hands.

The liberals (especially the far lefties) don’t have that comfort. Maybe that’s why they get so panicked and hate-filled.

  • Marcus_Traianus

have I been misled or just ill-informed?

Each election, I have prayed that God open the hearts of voters and guide them to choose in the best intersts of the country.

It has always been generic in my requesta but this election, I am naming names.

All the voters that have shown up in Obama’s favor , in early voting, makes me wonder..how many Obama supporters won’t be showing up on election day? There is absolutely no doubt in my mind, that the polls are wrong. It doesn’t take a very smart person to understand what the media is doing, or how awful things would actually be if he were to become president. More people in this country are conservative, than not. People don’t vote for fun, and the silent 130 million expected to vote this time, haven’t spoke yet. He shouldn’t count his chickens before they hatch. See through it, they’re not fooling anybody, just causing everybody in their uncle to make sure they vote, and vote against him come election day. The People won’t stand for it. Yes, of course the Bradley effect will happen, but the main reason he’ll lose, he’s a communist. God knows what he is, and I pray too. However,I find myself praying more and more these days. Regardless, God’s will is God’s will. Liberals, Educated idiots, College has ruined your brains. Liberals, just make sure if you decide to pray, make sure it’s the right God and you’re not taking marijuana. God doesn’t like drugs or other Gods.

The United States is supposed to be around 80% Christian. How could any Christian vote for Obama? Obama is for gay marriage, he is for abortion, he sit in a church that preached hatred for whites and the United States for a good 20 years, then calls his preacher Wright, his mentor, which means; A wise and trusted guide and adviser, teacher or trusted counselor.
A person is known by the friends he keeps and who backs them. Friends like Bill Ayers, Rev. Wright, and the Communist Party I heard on the radio today is backing Obama. Obama has close ties with Acorn which is making a mess out of our voters registration system. Palin has more experience than Obama for being President. Bill Clinton was a governor so was Bush and Ronald Reagan, then they say Palin’s governorship is not good enough to be a President. What really angers me is that Bill Clinton took the Social Security and Medicaid money and broke them. Bill Clinton and the democratic party are to blame for the collapse of Banks and Mortgage Companies. Clinton said when he was President that the housing market was strong with lots of money so banks were told to give like ten loans to each loan they had money to cover. So everything collapsed during a Republican Presidency and the Republicans are blamed for what the Democrats did. If you want government in your home and running your healthcare and giving you handouts where Uncle Sam becomes your Big Daddy instead of an uncle in a socialistic government, then vote for Obama. If you still believe in the AMERICAN DREAM vote for McCain.

I was going to say…It’s the power of prayer.

Our church has joined with countless other churches and we have all committed to pray for this election at 8:00 every evening (when Hannity and the Goof comes on).

We pray that the American people will have wisdom and that God’s will will be done.

And that’s all we can hope for.

But it is having trouble getting past the MSM filter (remember that speech he made a few weeks ago that was over 50% economy and the MSM cut that section and said he didn’t talk about the economy)? Besides, as clove notes, you think the majority of American people are going to trust O on the economy when he said almost nothing concrete (as you noted) and when he has it has been 1960s type Dem platform ideas?
