MEMBER DIARY

The GOP members of the Supercommittee

From Daniel Foster at NRO:

Today we learn the Republican picks in both the House and the Senate. Boehner is sending Reps. Jeb Hensarling (R., Texas), Dave Camp (R., Mich.) and Fred Upton (R., Mich.)(gag). Mitch McConnell is sending Sens. Pat Toomey (R., Pa.), Jon Kyl (R., Ariz.), and Rob Portman (R., Ohio).

I had a feeling that a retiring Senator like Kyl might be added.

It could be a good thing (He’ll make tough choices without reference to re-election concerns) or a bad thing (no qualms about angering the base with his stance. After all, he’s outta there).

We shall see.

Toomey and Portman are good picks.

I’m decidedly unenthused about Upton.

Having already announced his retirement, he has NO political accountability..

I thought that McConnell might name Hatch. Orin is running around as a firebreathing, reborn hard core conservative…and tryign to convince everyone of his sincerity. He probably would have done a hek of a job on the committee..and it would have saved his a** in the primary…but McConell wouldn’t bite…I suspect he’s already written off Orin.

BTW..how soon before we see the first Dem attack ad:

NO WOMEN! NO MINORITIES! JUST A BUNCH OF RICH MIDDLE-AGED WHITE GUYS..
