John Boehner's Stooges Think the Conservative Base Is Ignorant and Stupid

Well isn't this a hellava note.
A GOP leadership aide defended the Steering Committee’s decision Friday.
“It doesn’t take much to concoct an allegation of impropriety against an elected official in Washington — any idiot can do that,” the aide said. “But it takes guts to look at the facts, draw a conclusion that is contrary to the crap printed in one major newspaper, and stand firmly behind a decision. Frankly, that’s exactly what the Steering Committee has done.”
Where do I begin? Well, for starters, here is Ken Calvert's arrest report where he was found with his pants down getting oral sex from a heroin addicted prostitute.
Then there is Norm Ornstein from the *conservative* American Enterprise Institute, who looked at Ken Calvert's earmarks and found that
It may be true that the numbers of offenders, at least those directly breaking the law, are still roughly the same as in other comparable peer groups. But the problem is palpably worse. While there is plenty of illegality here — and I believe a wave of indictments will hit in the coming months — it is not what is illegal that is the outrage, to use the old phrase, but rather what is legal.
Then there is the Los Angeles Times reporting on Calvert's earmarks, which the House Leadership believes is a hit job. All they have to do is pull the earmarks and compare them to the deeds and sale documents to see the LA Times was right on the money.
It takes guts, BK (yeah I bet that's you being quoted), to stand up to your own leadership. It's cowardly to let soon to be indicted Jerry Lewis tell you who you are appointing to Appropriations.

Thanks for the plug. :-) I love to do "compare and contrast" exercises to show the double standard in the media and so on. This is another great example.
The same people who want Libby, Rove, DeLay, Cunningham, Foley, etc. marched away to spend the rest of their lives at Gitmo don't seem to utter a single disparaging word about Jefferson, Mollohan, Feinstein, Murtha, Reid, Osama, etc.
While the Dem leadership, their Kossite friends, and their legion of MSM supporters stand around singing Kumbaya and figuring out what Republican to smear next, what do OUR leaders do? First we had Hastert granting de facto amnesty to Jefferson, and now we have Boehner's gang attacking people like Erick.
What I have not voted for a Democrat for many years because that party has become so utterly corrupt, it seems the Republicans want to push people like us away. Idiots. We've got to fight fire with fire as far as I'm concerned, and our leaders should be 1) keeping our house as clean as possible, and 2) doing everything they can to expose the many crooks on the other side. Trying to play fair just gets us kicked in the @$$ time and time again, and tying to be Democrats Lite got us this past November's results. When are we going to learn?
You should, if you think that RedState should have a place at the table. DailyKos is feted by the Democratic party establishment -- and maintains its readership -- in part because it has its own voice and is willing to selectively target its own.* RedState needs to take a similar approach, and Calvert seems as good a target as any.
The trick is not to go "Club for Growth" overboard, and do more harm than good.
For we have a peculiar power of thinking before we act, and of acting, too, whereas other men are courageous from ignorance but hesitate upon reflection.
See if he can't do some good and screw the lid on spending like a good libertarian. :-)
It'd never happen, and that is one odd dude (and I don't want his butt anywhere near the leather of that big chair in the Oval Office), but there's no question about his commitment to principle. He'd have those Appropriation pigs snorting draino up their earmark snouts.
It's war -- so when can we start shooting back at the enemy Democrats?
He'd have those Appropriation pigs snorting draino up their earmark snouts. LOL
I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent.
Six years and then out. Part of the problem is that people can hang around forever. Look at Bill Young. He is still there! If you made these folks leave the committee after six years, the propensity for mischief would be reduced.
I know nothing about the earmarks. The arrest record is enough to cause great pause. From a criminal law standpoint, I presume him not guilty. But from a political standpoint, this is too much and demands an explanation before he gets any substantial party office or appointment.
Where is the leadership????

Wow, that must have been so unbeliveably embarrassing. Kinda like George Michael getting caught in his Range Rover, er...Roving the Range. After something like that, you'd imagine that nobody would be defending him, but apparently unless we continue to press this thing the Republicans can expect that they'll be known for condoning it.
Good work, Erick. Even George Michael admitted that it was his "own stupid fault" and suffered the consequences like...like...a man. When our Congressmen are acting worse than George Michael, we're in deep trouble.
....why is our base so unhappy? Unlike many inside the beltway, there are folks out here who have principles which they will not compromise. They (Republican leadership) just simply don't get it!!!
And let me clarify that the bigger picture is the important thing and the principle is key, but I'm concerned here about appearance.
First, are we saying that if any Congressman or Senator ever arrested for a crime (whether it be six months ago or 20 years ago) that instantly precludes him or her from a seat on a committee?
Secondly, if we had to rate the evidence against Calvert, what percentage of that evidence is based upon the publication of charges by the Los Angeles Times? Is that article/those charges 50% of what we are basing this on? 20%? 80%
Forgive me for treating the Los Angeles Times in the same regard that I treat The Washington Post and the New York Times - I simply do not trust any information from any of these "news" organizations.
the GOP base is stupid...how do you think these guys got into office to begin with? why do you think John McCain still gets any attention? most GOP voters buy the war hero schtick and aren't aware of his real track record of leftist policy. it's just that our base is much less stupid than the Dems' base (at least we're not 30% truthers)
Republicans = stupid, but with good instincts
Democrats = stupid and evil
Libertarians = smart in a nerdy way, but hopelessly naive
greens = too stupid to survive without help from others.

with always pointing out that the prostitute is a heroin addict? Is that worse than a non-addicted prostitute?
For a variety of reasons. First of all, addicted hookers are really cheap, a lady of quality isn't. Tells me that the the only thing the CongressCritter™ is getting under table is... well, you know.
Second, the probability of getting one of those nasty diseases from an addicted hooker is probably a bazillion times higher than from a lady of quality.
Third, why doesn't he do what every other elected official does, hire an intern.

But that raises the question, don't you want someone thrifty on appropriations?
I just don't want the idiot they've put there. I like the idea of Ron Paul. He may be an idiot too, but at least he's a clean idiot and there's nobody in the Congress who's cheaper.

"Please do not call our elected officials whores. Most of the whores I know are pretty nice people and really try to serve their clients. They are also basically honest people."
You really have to wonder who is lower than whom in this episode. It's tough to tell. Erick is right to call it out preemptively.
Let's face it now, and I say this to all the people who represent Republicans on Capitol Hill: if you don't take action to get these people out of the caucus, C.R.E.W. is going to do it for you...and when they do it, they're going to take their time and pick the worst possible moment to break the story and fan the flames, just like they did with Foley.
So get them all in a meeting and make 'em fess up and absolutely get rid of them now. I *will not* stand for another surprise from C.R.E.W. in 2008. Once is ENOUGH. If you let it happen to yourselves again, I'm quitting politics permanently and I don't care if the rest of you sleep with the fishes, figuratively speaking. You've been warned.

why we supported Shadegg for Speaker.
Redoubling my efforts as of now. I guess I'm just like 'any idiot' who wants the GOP to remember who brought them to the dance.
To Boehner, your Steering Committee, your staff, and other lackeys -- we will not yield.
And just why the #### can't we hear anything from the RSC? Guys (Hensarling, Flake,et al) are you paying attention? It's time to get thrown out of some meetings, boys. Get rude.
