Surprise!

I suppose that it might be possible that the Clinton campaign somehow knew that it would win in New Hampshire despite all of the polls and all of the momentum going Barack Obama's way. Perhaps the campaign allowed others to set expectations for Obama and was able to triumph not only by winning the vote in New Hampshire, but also by seeing those expectations upset.

I have a hard time believing that. I think the Clinton campaign was (happily) caught off guard. Chances are that there was a dramatic polling error, the nature of which is yet to be determined. In any event, I don't think that what happened yesterday was the result of any Clintonian spinning. The victory in New Hampshire notwithstanding, the Clinton campaign revealed that it has a jutting glass jaw just asking for a punch. It is resourceful and tough but by no means is it ten feet tall. And I really don't care if Hillary Clinton said that she "found [her] voice." She is not good on the stump and she will lose her voice again as a consequence.

People lie to polsters when by SanDiego92108

People lie to polsters when a black candidate is running. So when there's a secret ballot (opposed to an open caucus), expect to see more such shifts.

It's not that they hate the people they're lying for. It's that they're especially eager to look like they don't.

Basically affrimative action applies to lefties when they answer pollsters, but not when they go into the booth.

This one didn't have anything to do with race. Women shifted to Clinton and she won. CNN had a nice story on this last night.

Hillary Clinton pulled off the best political move of our times, by crying on network television.

Her calculated moment of "emotion" was all it took to motivate a ton of voters in NH who would have otherwise stayed home.

and how Hillary is not qualified to be POTUS if she can't control her emotions?

How about this one? Hillary just proved to all of those evil Republicans that women can't be trusted because they are too emotional.

I tend to agree but by jackbenimble

I tend to agree but I bet she can only use the fake tears maybe one more time. If that is what she means when she says, "I found my voice" then she is cooked.

I doubt the voters will look favorably on a potential President who busts out sobbing everytime the going gets rough. If we are going to have a woman President we want one with some hair on her chest like Margret Thatcher.

And her last episode set back the women's movement by 20 years. Between that and letting Bill walk all over her with his infidelity, Hillary is not exactly the model of a strong woman.

Simple. Its called the "Liberals are racists" effect. It goes something like this, when asked by other people (like pollsters) who they will vote for, liberals will give a very PC answer (I'm voting for Obama). When they caucus in Iowa in front of all their neighbors and friends, they act like they are hip, tolerant people and stand in the Obama corner for all to see.

But when they go in the that booth, and they are all alone, those oh so tolerant liberals would never even think of pulling the lever for a black man.

Evil prevails only when good men do nothing.

I'm with Pejman. She fell once under the weight of her personality and other obvious weaknesses as a candidate. She will again. And next time, it wouldn't be other Dems calling her on it.

Couple of theories offered yesterday that I think have some merit.

First, the idea that the Clinton's may have brought some votes in from Massachusetts. Apparently the voting rules in NH primary are fairly lax. I had read earlier in the week that the Clintons had a superior "get out the vote" operation in NH. We all know what that means in a Democrat election.

Second, someone suggested that maybe they had purposely fouled the polls by telling their supporters to lie to the pollsters thereby setting her up for an "upset" in a state that was favorable to her all along. Clever.

Turn out was even larger than expected and according to the pollster on H&C as many as 18%were undecided going into the booth.
