First, we have Ace, who points out this courageous video of Hillary Clinton in the most snipery place on earth:
Then, we have Zombietime, who is now even more full of awesome - he's taking videos of the protests that he's going to.
And finishing it up we see Jake Tapper's link to Harry Reid, who is in many ways the best Majority Leader that the GOP's ever had:
Question: Do you still think the Democratic race can be resolved before the convention?
Reid: Easy.
Q: How is that?
Reid: It will be done.
Q: It just will?
Reid: Yep.
Q: Magically?
Reid: No, it will be done. I had a conversation with Governor Dean (Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean) today. Things are being done.
One hopes that he's involved in those things; he did such a marvelous job for us on keeping the war going, after all.

...and will cause many conservatives to have second thoughts after he had made some good headway. Highlights of McCain's speech included:
A "successor" to Kyoto (not even Clinton went this far)
Closing Gitmo (presumably bringing everyone to the US)
A "global cap & trade system"
Seeking a global consensus on national security (akin to Kerry's global test)
Wow. This was really bad, and I really WANT to support McCain. This made it more difficult.
“.....women and minorities hardest hit”
regarding GITMO...has he indicated what his idea of an alternative to GITMO is?...Or, just close it, we don't need it.
" Got to love the Lord for making things like that."

I was listening for an alternative but it sounded like he had our own prison system in mind.
I'd suggest someplace like Mindanao in the Philippines, so we could put Filipino personnel in charge of interrogation and in compliance with local law, which is to say, with fewer inhibitions. They could put their Abu Sayyaf prisoners there, too.
From what I've heard, we've brought people there for interrogation before. Our people drop off the detainee with some locals and then go get a beer. It's kind of like "don't ask, don't tell" for torture.
though I have heard that they are good at what they do with terrorist.
It just struck me that with no alternative communicated to the public, he's pulling an Obama...just talking with no real plan

with references like that I'm sure your story is factual ...
In time you'll see I don't relate anything I'm not sure about, whether I have handy links or not.
mcCain has *actually* said on this topic but on the off chance that you are actually wanting to know --
After closing Gitmo the prisoners there would enter the military justice system
NOT THE CIVILIAN JUSTICE SYSTEM
They would be transported to a MILITARY prison, probably Ft Leavenworth, where they would be kept until they go on trial
IN THE MILITARY TRIBUNAL SYSTEM
NOT THE CIVILIAN JUSTICE SYSTEM
The military tribunals are run along lines of military justice, where the defendant does not get the lawyers Mark Levin says they will -- ACLU lawyers and so on. The system o proof and everything else is quite different and the punishment is severe. Hopefully some of these defendants would be executed. Others would do hard time in a military prison. Others would be sent back to their countries.
Does this answer the questions here, whichI feel are rhetorical at least on some people's part? I don't like to repeat myself, I have a low threshold of boredom, and I don't want to keep reading people asking: So, where does McCain want to keep the prisoners at Gitmo after he closes it? I hope I've answered that. If you think the military tribunals are a bad idea, then say so. But don't make up stuff.

is that he is the lesser of the 3 evils (McCain, Hillary, Obama in that order).
Why he continues to knee Conservatives in the groin with speeches like this is really baffling. But it does explain his continued anemic fundraising. And that isn't going to get any better, imo.
McCain and Bush, and not much more difference between him and the Democrats. I'am not expecting anything much good from a McCain presidency. Probably best to hope that we come out of it
without too much pain.
"Nothing works like freedom, Nothing succeeds like liberty"

McCain's strategy is to actively go after the so-called "Reagan Democrats".
But let's remember that the "Reagan Democrats" are still Democrats, not free-market free-trade Republicans. They admire McCain's patriotism, but they're not going to embrace a hard-right platform. In 1980, even Reagan had to promise them that the social safety net would remain 100% intact.
And in 2008, with the economy tanking under a Republican administration, McCain can't embrace the Bush economic policies.
Right now, those "Reagan Democrats" are watching the Hillary-Obama fight, and polls show that they don't like what they see.
McCain's job is to move quickly to reassure those moderate and working-class voters who are worried about Obama's black nationalism and Hillary's feminism, that they can trust him to not ram a hard-right agenda down the nation's throat, even though (judging by the polls) those voters have soured on Bush already.
McCain has to "close this sale" while the Reverend Wright and Hillary lying and Governor Spitzer stories are still fresh in the public's mind. That means McCain has to be able to tell those voters "Even though you don't like what Bush is doing, you will like me better."
Conservatives may not like that, but right now they are not McCain's biggest concern.
His behind the scenes appointments and associations have nothing to do with winning Reagan Democrats. It's what he syas and does when nobody is paying attention that is scary.
is a suprise is it? We knew he was for Global Warming reform, and for closing Gitmo. And it makes sense for him emphasize some of his moderate points now that he's in the general election.
Agreed, also -
I'm not sure kicking Russia out of the G8 is wise. No, they are not nice guys, but this seems awfully antagonistic.
I also didn't the whole ambitious Wilsonian tone. Slow down Mac.
it sounds like they've got a hit out on somebody ...
"Things are being done" ... weird ...
Everything in the play falling apart, actors not showing up, props breaking, etc.
Q:So what do we do ?
REID: Nothing. Strangely enough, it all turns out well.
Q: How ?
REID: I don't know. It's a mystery.

and was stopped by the lovely natives from driving across town to my apointment for about an hour. We did not get close enough for me to see the special people, but the photos do tell plenty, no?
As to the McCain speech:
read carefully. He is after a global cap and trade. It will never happen. I bet you there are very adequate alternatives to Gtmo.
I am not bliding myself to his faults. I have certainly used a lot of bandwidth pointing them out. But I want to be realistic.
McCain is not merely the least of a set of bad choices. I think he offers us a lot and we can be enthusiastic in our support.
1. Ramiele - We remember Carrie Underwood, she won AI on the night she sang "Alone." You're no Carrie. kthxbye.
2. Jason Castro - Sometimes he's good, but I don't he really has a strong enough voice to make a living with it. He did admit to not really taking AI seriously.
3. Syesha Mercado - Nothing bores me more than the "diva" singer, up to this point Syesha hasn't been one. Let's hope she doesn't stay there.
4. Chikezie - He's up and down, down a little this week, but alright. I think he needs the uptempo stuff to get into a song. I like Chikezie and hope he makes the Top 5.
5. Brooke White - You can't help but like Brooke, I would have rather seen her do "King of Pain" but I dug EBYT. She has the skill to be Top 3, but I don't think she can win.
6. Michael Johns - Best we've seen him in the competition. What Queen song can he sing next week? He was my favorite from Hollywood week, but hadn't really had a good week until now.
7. Carly Smithson - I hate the faces she makes when she sings, it's very distracting. I do think she's prego.
8. David Archuleta - I thought he was amazing in the auditions, I've thought less and less of him as the weeks have gone on. I hate his preachy-ness. Listen bub, you're a kid. I think he needs to get away from his Stage Dad (he's the male Jon Benet right now).
9. Kristy Lee Cook - Now that's how you pick a song Idols. Right in her wheelhouse. A little country, a song that everyone knows and it's "God Bless the USA" and then sung the heck out of it, what else do you need? She almost baked an apple pie right there on stage.
10. David Cook - Better than the Cornell version! Will he get revenge for Daughtry not winning it a couple of years ago? He's consistently the best they have this year. Big ol' alien head too.
Bottom 3: Chikezie, Ramiele and Carly.
Going home: Ramiele.

Pretty much agree. Ramiele will probably leave.
I'm just glad that Amanda is gone.
WTH were they thinking putting her through?!? That girl sucked so bad.
Married guy = American Idol watcher. I do like it anyways...
I was really happy last week when Amanda Oversinger was gone, she reminded me of that kid last year in the auditions who was tasked to find an Abba song to sing and came back with the grunge/metal "Dancing Queen."

Sadly, auditions were his one day in the sun
that I'm practicing Romanian in online conversation when the rest of you are watching "Idol." :)
all my favorite women on TV are on the news channels. Otherwise, I would try Glenn Beck's suggestion of going one year with no TV, one of very few of his suggestions I'd consider trying.
And I've never watched it. Not once.

..besides being one of those "plants" who has had a record contract before and flopped, it's really pathetic to me that, when panning the audience to show every contestant's family, they have to show her "friends" because they can't show her husband, due to the fact that he has tattoos all over his face.
He fusses about her tattooed shoulder every week.
Her husband is kinda creepy looking though.
She ain't gonna win. It's going to be one of the Davids. You heard it here first. :>)
Def. not on women, an definitely not on people's faces.
they all know I'll never spend a dime with any of them.
And I'm not fan of Carly's tats either, especially with all the sleeveless tops she wears.

Betting everything on a recording career because her husband won't be hired anywhere.
While I know one or two arguable exceptions, there's a game we used to play downtown, "find the smart person with a tattoo." You can't count anyone who only thinks they're smart. It's a hard game to win, actually.
I like Carly. She's pretty if "grunge". Won't win of course.
Johns was pretty good. Chikezie blew it. I like Brooke alright. They did a good job on changing her look. She won't win.
Cook was the best by a country mile. Also won't win.
Archuleta, that insufferable, saccharine little sermonizer will probably win. *sigh*
absentee
Dial Idol had Cook beating Arch by a wide margin last night (if you can believe them).
And yeah, Brooke with the straight hair... ROWWWR!

the performances have been more duds than hits.
Only David Cook has been consistent.
I agree w/ you about Brooke, she compares well to the others, but probably not good enough to win.
Overall, the guys are ok, except David Archuleta is painful. But for the girls, this is probably the worst I've seen.
Simon and Randy still provide enough entertainment, but Paula seems to be regressing each week w/ her ability to put together a coherent sentence.
... Is intolerable this year. My wife likes to watch every minute of the season but I've finally convinced her to let me "TiVo" through Paula's reviews. I could just kiss that fast forward button.

I don't think I could watch regular TV anymore. DVR only. No commercials, and last night no Paula.

And its really hard to recall what life was like before it came along.
I vaguely remember piles of videotapes and fumbling around trying to program the VCR.
The downside is that my comcast bill is now obscene.
most painful week I've ever seen on AI (not a big Beatles fan anyways, give me the Stones). Last night's show was good, the best nights are when they are given a lot of latitude to chose their songs. The judges harp on song choice, but really what can you do as a male on Celine Dion night??? Hope they never actually have that, but when they had Elvis night, what are the ladies supposed to sing? And how is singing 20 year old songs supposed to tell us about what kind of music they would sing on their own album?

I'm going to brag on my little boy. Seven years old and a sweetie.
I get a newspaper/flyer from the Missouri Baptist Children's Home (an extremely worthy charity) which we support when we can. They had an article about children who needed a home.
My little boy said that he's not going to have his own children, he's going to adopt other little kids who don't have a dad and be a dad for them. I could have hugged him until I broke his ribs, but you just don't do that with seven year old boys, you see.
So I came to RS to tell you guys and tear up a little bit in the typing of it.
:)
I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent.
Mine is 8 and he still lets me squeeze him real hard. Must be a mama's boy. That's okay, I'll keep him.

In context, this may be my favorite Harry Reid public pronouncement ever.
------------
The Red Sox Republican: Burkeanism, Baseball, and Sundries.
Harry Reid is the gift that just keeps on giving. Has there ever been a more "gray" and uninviting man in political office? I would like to see some testing on him to determine if, as suspected, that his spine is actually made of jelly. That said, it sounds like he and the party bosses are going to settle all of the Dems woes in a dingy back room somewhere. If Dean is there, all I can say is, "Yaaaaaaaaaaahhhhwwwwrhhha!"
Of course, no matter what the party bosses decide, the radicals are still going to show up in Denver for some exciting street festivities. Yaaaaaaaahhhhwhhrrahh!"
So we're back to the "top men" argument from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Harry's got "top men" working on it.
[Sorry, I looked for a clip but couldn't find one]
