Bush hasn't thrown out the opening pitch for two years now. There's only one other Prez, to my knowledge, who missed two season in recent history.
that he thinks the imagery would be inappropriate and various lefty toads would be ragging on him for attending a ball game with a war on. Of course, if he doesn't attend the same toads will claim he's afraid of being booed.

One of my fondest memories as a child was being at a Cubs game with my father as President Reagan threw out the first pitch. I didn't know much about politics at that age, nor did I care. I just thought that the fact that the President of the United States was a couple hundred feet from me throwing out a pitch was amazing.
I believe shortly after his Presidency, he sat in the booth with Harry Caray and called an inning of a game.
