Obama seeks to affirm his patriotism

After a series of incidents that prompted questions about his patriotism, the Democratic presidential candidate is peppering speeches with explicit statements on his love of country.
"I love this country not because it's perfect but because we've always been able to move it closer to perfection," he told an audience in North Dakota.
Glad to hear it, Barry. I do hope that doing that didn't make you feel... put-upon, or anything. For your sake, at least: because if you felt the need to do that once, it's highly unlikely that you're going to not feel the need to do that a lot...

How many times do you think Mondale ever said "I love this country" when he was running? I don't even recall hearing Kerry ever say it in '04.
Kerry probably DID say "I love this country" back in '04, but he was in France at the time.

This sentence is really amazing if you deconstruct it just a little bit. We're the ones moving to perfection, it's not an evolution and it certainly isn't a higher power. And, there's the (historically dangerous) assumption that perfectability is attainable.
It is difficult to find a better summation of Barack's liberalism.
Is people voting for him, of course. Hence, we're moving closer to it every time a primary is held.
...every time Barack feels compelled to share his love of country, he adds a dagger as a caveat. With the shrews on "The View", Obama said he loved the U.S. "with all its faults".
Tell me, Mr. UnityChangeHope, is that the way you describe your love for your wife? "With all her faults, I still love Michelle" or "I love my kids, not because they're perfect, but because I think I can move them closer to perfection"?
My love for my country, like my love for my wife and kids, is unconditional. It requires no qualification or caveats.

I think its more like liberals love America like adults, with love along with a critical mind. Liberals don't see America through a child's eyes, as if America can do no wrong. All is not gospel.
