House Republicans to interrupt housing debate in attempt to re-secure the country [UPDATED]

Some of those darned issues just don't seem to go away!

Update 2: Moments ago, the House GOP offered the Senate-passed FISA bill (S. 2248) as their Motion to Recommit H.R. 3521, the Public Housing Asset Management Improvement Act. The chair declared the motion non-germane, and the GOP appealed the ruling.

Update: Democrats have won a battle for America's enemies, voting to uphold the Previous Question on the Protect America Act. Seven Democrats are to be commended for voting with the GOP: Barrow, Bean, Boren, Carney, Cramer, Donnelly, and Lampson.

Within the next half hour, House Republicans will be interrupting the all-important Housing debate to bring up that dreaded and tortuous subject of National Security.

The GOP will use the "previous question" parliamentary tactic to force a vote on the FISA legislation that the Senate passed by a 2/3 margin and sent to the House two weeks ago."

"We will not sit idly by while Democrats bring up bills that have already had numerous floor votes while important legislation is on the table collecting dust," said Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) earlier today.

"Because of the inaction by the Democratic leadership, a crucial provision in our national security laws was allowed to expire earlier this month," he added. "Since then, a dimmer switch has been placed on our ability to monitor terrorists. With each passing day, the quality of our intelligence is diminished for no other reason than politics. I find that unacceptable, and it’s a good bet the vast majority of the American people do too."

It's got to be tough on the party of the welfare state that the pesky House minority won't let them simply forget about the threats outside our borders and focus all their efforts on keeping people at home poor, rather than on keeping them alive.

Tough break by BlackRepub

Why can't they just leave Democrats alone, we have important things to discuss, like Obama's fancy hats. Besides, we've got a war to lose. BushLied!BushLied!

"Do not yield. Do not flinch. Stand up. Stand up with our President and fight. We're Americans. We're Americans, and we'll never surrender. They will."-John McCain
McCain/Rudy 08-kill the terrorists and punch the hippies.

Winning this protects our country. It hurts us in the election because we lose an issue and have to depend on the memory of the electorate. Even so we press on.

but the GOP leadership is showing that they have a very thorough understanding of Robert's Rules.

Treason?!?!?! by Chuck

How is it that the inaction by the Democrats has not been identified for what it is. According to the Constitution:

Article III
Section 3. Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

I had to get Meriam-Webster's help on "adhering":
intransitive verb
1: to give support or maintain loyalty
2obsolete : accord 3
3: to hold fast or stick by or as if by gluing, suction, grasping, or fusing
4: to bind oneself to observance
transitive verb
: to cause to stick fast

Is not the crippling of the government, thus preventing the proper administration of its duties to the citizens of the United States, treason? It ain't "just politics" anymore. Filing a few charges, and arresting these jokers off the house floor would probably make a statement. Or are they exempt from such laws?

"Do not separate text from historical background. If you do, you will have perverted and subverted the Constitution, which can only end in a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government." --James Madison

other than to say, "It ain't gonna happen," I immediately wondered if we need to come up with a new word for what "Treason!" does to a thread, that would be analogous to "Godwinize".

Be not afraid

"Is not the crippling of the government, thus preventing the proper administration of its duties to the citizens of the United States, treason?"

Apparently not, even during the government shutdowm of 1995, when congress could not pass a budget and thus prevented institutes of government from operating and performing its duties, no one in congress was brought up on charges.

need a No vote to proceed to consider FISA.

it's over by Ender

Most dems have not crossed over on this vote. Actually I see 3.

"To discuss evil in a manner implying neutrality, is to sanction it." AR

And tie Obama to this madness

The Republicans surely arent perfect, but I thank God every day for them being the adults in the room when it comes to national security. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Kerry, Murtha and their cohorts infuriate me and make me sick...all at the same time.

I find your lack of faith....disturbing.

In one of the most important and under reported stories in recent years the U S Supreme Court upheld NSA/Fisa surveillance, don't bother looking for it in your newspapers. This deprives the degenerates in the Democratic Party of even the tiny fig leaf of false claims they made concerning the program and upholds an earlier decision by the FISA Court of Review.

At this point I must wonder if the Degenerates not only don't care if America gets hit, they don't, but are fully prepared to do one of the two things they are good at, disclaim any responsibility and lay the blame for the bloodshed on Bush. They are one and the same actually, duck and blame someone else.

Actually... by ubomw

Actually, that would be very useful to me in an argument I'm having with my more leftish friends, can you point me to the case?

Thanks.

The US Supreme Court decision is ACLU V NSA 07-468 dtd 2/19. It denied review of a similar decision by the US Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit, which in turn refused to overthrow the original affirmative decision by the FISA Court of Review, dtd I believe 11/18/02.

You do, as I do, realize that this will not stop or give pause to those lunatics who will continue to refer to the program as illegal spying on Americans, as they also continue to wax insane about the "illegal" war in Iraq. Neither will it shame those in Congress in re-authorizing the program and protecting those Americans who they care so much about.
Sickening, totally sickening.
