The Abe Lincoln Airport - Jesse Jr. Follows In His Dad's Footsteps [UPDATED]

UPDATED: On the floor of the House, Jesse Jackson, Jr. refused to speak in favor of his earmark unless he was allowed to speak after everyone else had spoken. Rep. Campbell offered to let Jackson refute Rep. Campbell's points on how bad the earmark is, but Jackson would not do so unless he got the last word.
To the right is a picture of Chicago's O'Hare Airport from 44,000 feet. Let me ask a silly question: can you see the airport?
This silly question is rather important because of an earmark requested by Jesse Jackson, Jr.
Rep. Jackson has asked for $231,000.00 for the "Abraham Lincoln National Airport Commission" pertaining to an airport in University Park, IL — specifically the earmark is for "minority and small business development and procurement opportunities" related to the airport.
Click below the fold for a picture of the Abraham Lincoln National Airport and you'll see (or rather not see) my point . . .
Now, here's a picture of University Park, IL. Can you see the airport? Can you find it? In fact, if you zoom in, you'll find a 3000 ft. dirt runway in a field — not large enough for anything beyond crop dusters.
Oh . . . Rep. Jackson tells us the airport doesn't actually exist. They want to *build* the airport, a third one for the Chicago area. What's that you say? We should ask the Lincoln Airport Commission about the earmark? Good idea. It's Executive Director is Richard Bryant. Those of you in the Chicago area may know him. He's a paid staffer in the office of Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr.
Oh, there's one other little detail you should know. According to Gov. Blagojevich,
“…the Abraham Lincoln National Airport at Peotone will not compete with O'Hare for needed federal dollars, and during tough fiscal times like these, his (Jackson's) plan to use private investment is both a welcome and innovative way to build an airport. I strongly support it’.”
I guess only a Jackson says he'll use "private investment" dollars and means yours and my money taken by the force of the federal government.

Tubby Jesse 'Kid Staple' Jackson, Jr. got a tummy tuck but told all the hard-hitting reporters that he was doing crunches and laying off the Mickey Ds! Then it was learned that he had in fact had a Doc put a bunch of staples in his Tummy!
No diet! No Crunches! No $hit!
Kid Staples did all that in response to being eclipsed at the last DNC, portly as he was, by the svelte Barack Obama!
Junior has tagged a group of Elmhurst Lawyers to foist this deadon arrival useless Air Appendage on the State of illinois - this area boasts some of richests soil in America!
The only logical and workable location for the Metro 3rd Airport is already running and needs merely to be expanded in Gary, IN. The infrastructure is there.
Kid Staples is in an on-going peeing contest with Mayor Daley. All this an expensive an useless boondoggle by the heir to the Boondoggle/Shakedown Fortune! Dad got Budweiser for Yuseph and Jonathon and all Kid Satples got was a Congressional seat.
Pops Staples is waiting to shake the strange fruit from the next tree.
Really - you can not make this stuff up!

To have a viable airport, you need airlines. Few airlines want a third Chicago airport (really a fourth as Pat points out) and all the infrastructure expenses that go into it, and which passengers must pay for to the extent that taxpayers don't. The airlines that run networks want O'Hare and the discounters/regionals want Midway.
Oh, well, that's one for the City Fathers to work out.
Also, don't want to rub it in, but Dallas Fort-Worth Intl is sitting on top of a gold mine in the form of gas deposits. Eat your hearts out, Yankees! :>)
No offense to Pat Hickey, but the 3rd airport is a big deal. Midway long ago reached its limit for expansion, not to mention how much the city spent on noise reduction (it sits square in the middle of the South Side).
O'Hare is just about done regarding expansion. The airport is surrounded on all sides (with the exception of the CTA tracks that connect it to the city proper) by suburbs, whose citizens and governments have fought tooth and nail against attempts at eminent domain in order to expand O'Hare (and the city).
Daley has been in a bitter fight with the state for years over where federal dollars would go regarding work on reconfiguring O'Hare to handle more traffic, instead of the state's idea of building a full-size 3rd airport in Peotone with federal dollars. The main reason for the conflict? Peotone is outside of Daley's grasp. Period.
A couple of other things. Blagojevich owes his political existence to Mayor Daley (and being the son-in-law of a long-time alderman hasn't hurt; this is also true of "Turban" Durbin and Obama). The Jacksons, on the other hand, do not feed from the Daley trough, although it is dangerous to mix it up to harshly with Daley. This seems like a way to get the airport started until it is politically feasible to go ahead and build a regular airport there.
Just the opinion of a conservative stuck in the quagmire of the ISSR (Illinois Soviet Socialist Republic).

Chicago had an airport on the waterfront called Meigs Field. Not huge (I think it was only a couple of runways), but if you include the Microsoft Flight Simulator, it handled a HUGE amount of traffic.
As I recall, Daley sent buldozers to tear up the runway before he had actual jurisdiction because he wanted the tax base from condo development and was tired of waiting for the (rigged) courts to turn it over to him.

...and he used eminent domain (along with the bulldozers) to build what is now a park (no condo development occurred on the site of the old airport). He is attempting to use the grounds as part of his bid to bring in the 2016 Olympics (no, I am not looking forward to that).

No group of public service professionals take more abuse than our Law Enforcement Professionals.
Chicago Police are treated to an endless flailing of abuse generated by radical think tanks and publicly funded university programs at Northwestern and Univeristy of Chicago.
From those two radical activist-thick ivory towers
and the Medill School of Journalism through the Chicago Tribune and the local free Press Chicago Reader sluices a cookie-cutter catalog of tales of Police Torture and Abuse - most tales apochryphal due to the fact that no prosecutions of alleged torture have taklen place.
There had to get that out.
I work with and live with many Chicago Police Officers in my community. They are some of the most intelligent and forthright people I have ever met. Then you read the same-old-same old John Conroy/G. Flint Taylor/Locke Bowman spiels ( always the same hammer-song from Peoples Law Office) and I wonder where did they come up with these images of police? G. Flint Taylor is a career ambulance chaser specializing in Police Abuse lawsuits and an especially loathsome creature - IMHO.
Well, boys and girls, the Chicago Police are reading the news and they stay on top of the issues. I watched about a dozen ofthe Pros at work last night when I picked up my college-age daughter from the train as they cuffed and carefully apprehended seven or eight GDs ( Gangster Disciples - distinguished by robin's egg blue clothing and the killers of students trying to be successful - the Tribune calls them activiststs). Nice work Ladies and Gentlemen!
We have a wonderfully informed PoLice Department here in Chicago.

out of their butts, because while you might be correct about most of them, the few getting the news are puttng the entire force in bad light.....

Like father like son. The fact that people elect people like Jr. is a very compelling argument against a democracy where voters are not required to pass basic tests of intelligence, knowledge and sanity.
