AK-SEN, AK-REP: Corrupt Rs Losing to Unkown Ds
Pork = Corruption = Losing Platform

Sen. Stevens (R) has followed the Byrd model of politics where every dollar of pork gets you one more vote for life. Democrats can pull this off because no one expects them to be fiscally responsible. Republicans, however, get caught up in the tension between small government and pork barreling.
A new poll* finds that the corruption has taken a toll on longtime incumbent Sen. Stevens (R) and Rep. Young (R).
Stevens (R) 41
Begich (D) 47
Young (R) 42
Berkowitz (D) 49
Popular Gov. Palin (R) has called for less pork coming to AK because the pork barreling is hurting the state's reputation. Gov. Palin beat a corrupt Republican in the primary for the Governorship. Hopefully some Rs can take out Young and Stevens before their corrupt pork barreling hand a heavy R state to Democrats.
*Poll is commissioned by Kos but past Kos-funded polls have been done neutrally and without explicit bias.

How deep is our bench there?
Perhaps we could get some of the scoop from Achance?

Better to move the corruption out on our own rather than let others just replace it with their own brand.
Exactly, we need to police our own. If we don't, we do not have the moral high ground. One thing that shuts the other side down is the fact that we have policed our own & not coddled those who have screwed up. We win when we have the sure footing on the high ground...
All Palin needs to do is to sick some of her minions on them. I mean that in a good way. She's the new sheriff in town. I do think both can be primaried.

"FEAR THE 'STACH!!!"
Are any Republican or conservative blogs commissioning polls too? Kos seems to be using them to really lift the spirits of the left, which in turn helps to raise money. Gotta admit its a good strategy.
And FWIW, I don't think Kos does them to "lift the spirits of the left." He uses them to get a feeling for candidates who haven't declared yet but are considering it. Fortunately, his data is open so we get it too. His NE-SEN numbers on Johanns-Kleeb were so good for Johanns, I don't know if Kleeb will even run.
It would be nice to have similar polling on some R challenger races: Huckabee-Pryor, Dardenne-Landrieu, Moore-Rockfeller, etc.

I think it would be helpful if an organization like the Club for Growth ran a poll, done by a reputable, non-biased polling organization, running say Loren Leman (former Lieutenant Governor) against Ted Stevens and John Binkley (former State Senator) against Don Young. If even the challenger comes out ahead in just one of the polls, I think that could potentially spark movement on the ground in Alaska.
I bet they both retire. Neither one of them are very young and their pensions will carry them forever. The bench ought to be pretty deep up there too. AK is red, red, red.
