I just wish Romney would have turned to him and asked if he thought the President should have had no plans and no discussion with Iraq.

McCain just showed that he's a little too big for his own britches.

McCain simply appeared nasty by continuing to make the charge in the face of clear evidence that Romney, in the same interview on which McCain relies, actually said he would veto legislation calling for a specific withdrawal date. And McCain compounded this with his continual smirks and repeated refrain of "timetables."

This kind of performance makes me think that McCain might be rather less successful in a general election than current polls suggest. Romney seemed much more substantive and polished. He is far from problem-free, but he may be the party's best bet.

Romney should have followed that up with an explanation of why he thought the Prescription Drug bill was such a great idea, especially since he criticized McCain for voting against it.

... this again? If this line of attack didn't work the first, second, or third time you tried it, why would you think it would work now?

McCain criticized Romney, correctly, for pushing for secret timetable for withdrawing troops. Romney did so when he claimed, as your own video clip shows, that President Bush and the Iraqi government already had such timetables, and that he supported them. In fact, Bush has always rejected the notion that there is a timetable for withdrawal. Now maybe Romney wasn't exactly being dishonest. Maybe he was just being muddle-headed or playing loose with the facts, but in any case he was wrong.
