With 99% of precincts reporting, here's the result in TX-22:
Shelley Sekula Gibbs 16,533 28%
Pete Olson 11,599 21%
John Manlove 8,281 15%
Robert Talton 8,113 15%
Dean Hrbacek 5,858 10%
Cynthia Dunbar 2,109 4%
Brian Klock 988 2%
Jim Squier 986 2%
Kevyn Bazzy 876 2%
Ryan Rowley 423 1%
That means it's runoff time, folks. That means it's time for Texas Republicans who voted for someone else - whether out of local loyalties or other considerations - to wake up and realize that sending a crazy woman like Shelley Sekula-Gibbs back to Washington just ain't so bright. It's time to realize that Pete Olson is the man for the job. It's time to give him what you can to help put him over the top.
Head over to Olson for Congress and help Pete take back a seat we should have.

I want Pete Olson to win the primary, and I have nothing against negative campaigning, but calling her crazy really isn't necessary or helpful. She may yet be the nominee and we may yet have to support her in the race that offers us our best pick-up opportunity in either house of Congress this year. If that happens, the Democrats will be able to use such assertions coming from Republicans against her. We lost this seat two years ago as a result of stupidity. We need not do that again.
To be able to do that.
I'm not even arguing with the assertion, Ben, but such things said by Republicans can be more useful for Democrats than things said by Democrats, and sometimes even the candidate herself. A quick look at the Democrats' recent attacks on Steve Kirby show just how damaging these types of things can be.
You know, bashing everyone else on stage, attacking the things most Rs are running on, and all that?

I'm pretty sure that you're intelligent enough to see the difference between voicing policy differences with opposition candidates and calling them crazy. If I'm right, quit being disingenuous. If I'm wrong, I'd be wasting my time explaining it to you.
A lot of the 72% non-Shelley voting is actually anti-Shelley voting. It will be interesting to see how close to 28% her vote gets frozen.
It would surely be nice, though, to have someone to vote for, instead of against, for a change. I am really getting weary of the unrelenting vituperation.
...can defeat her in a one-on-one matchup?
“.....women and minorities hardest hit”
But she really, really, really, really wants this nomination.
has apparently come out for Sekula-Gibbs.
The station owner is a state senator and is trying to build a political machine. But he not know for great judgement. Backing Shelley is a demonstration of that lack.
Shelley really turned people off in her brief stint in Delay's seat.
I back Olsen.
I am not known for great proof-reading skills.
Sorry about that.
i listen to that station about every day and senator dan's show often. He has not publicly come out for shelley or even made hints.
He came out very obviously for state rep. candidate fletcher, but not shelley.
Dan is trying to bring the state GOP back into conservative roots territory, yes; but he's not driving any national races.
both Dan and the morning show have made points this year on just how ineffective shelley was in DC, ran off her staff and spent on her housing like there was no tomorrow. if Dan was working for shelley, i'm quite sure those comments would not have been made on air.
I heard Dan or seomone from KSEV giving her an endorsement in an ad.
since they flipped over to the mean side, I admit I listen as little as possible.
because that's just not consistent with what they say and issues they back.
their station is pushing fiscally responsible candidates, socially conservative trying to lower taxes, lower spending and protect the border.
i don't see where they have turned mean, they have just gotten tired of being slapped around by RINOs and are doing something about it. i am quite sure if every conservative station put the same pressure on thier candidates that ksev did, the GOP might have held congress and the US wouldnt be sitting around with thier FISA pants down.
Hi, Ben
I'm not trying to pick a fight, so don't read a tone into this that isn't here... I have met Shelley Sekula-Gibbs and she seems nice enough. Says the right things, ya know? I also know that her entire (?) staff walked out on her in D.C. That about sums up my knowledge. I have read other comments about her, but I don't have any background information. Can anyone point me to something other than opinion? Or at least opinions that include a factual basis? Likewise with Olsen. Thanks.
P.s. I'm next door in CD 14 so we're going to have another round of RonPaul! I'm so not thrilled and so not energized by that race.
I don't care if she's crazy or not. I heard that Pete Olson was a "Former Phil Gramm aid" and pretty much knew right then that he was the guy.

Seriously I live in VA, and cannot find much on her other than a bit about her staff quitting, various campaign sites, and a bunch of useless resume like biographical sites. What did she do to get thrown in with the tin foil hat crowd?

Do you have evidence that she's under psychiatric care?
Bear in mind that this is NOT Olson calling her crazy lady. Pete has never said anything bad about her that I can recall.
And I agree that a lot of those votes for the other candidates were votes against Shelley. Now Olson's camp needs to work hard to get the support of the voters that supported Dean, Manlove, Talton, Bazzy, Klock, Rowley and Dunbar, Oh and Squier, basically the other guys. The biggest hurdle is to get those former "other guy" supporters to out and vote again in the runoff. If they feel that strongly AGAINST Shelley. Then they should.
I think Pete will get an endorsement from Sugar Land Mayor David Wallace who was endorsing John Manlove, but I dont know that John will endorse Pete after forcing Pete to have to call him out on a deceitful mailer. But I can't see John endorsing Shelley.
Pete can probably win Bazzy and Klock supporters because of the Navy ties. I don't know about Hrbacek or Dunbar supporters. It is a good thing that Pete stayed in the light and did not run a negative campaign.
The title to this thread is very wrong. Republicans should never call one of their own such horrible names and this other guy has never been elected to anything
What a morally outraged readership we have!
Why is Shelly Gibbs considered a Crazy Woman ??
Please, provide specific examples !!
I dont think she is crazy. Just not the right person for the job, not at this time in district 22's history. A dermatologist with some local city government experience and 7 weeks on an empty hill, versus a former Naval officer, lawyer, and senatorial and Joint Chiefs staffer... who would you send to Washington given the state of district 22 with respect to how we are perceived in Washington? Im not being mean or disrespectful, just pragmatic. If we want Washington to take us seriously when we attempt to get funds appropriated for local projects like immigration control, roads, education, we need to send a serious candidate there that will be taken seriosuly. Whomever gets there already has an uphill battle to overcome the DeLay stigma.
Im more inclined to think the crazy ones are the ones like Kevin Bazzy or Cynthia Dumbar who jumped in at the last possible minute to an already way overfilled race, and exclaim things like, "We need to impeach the judges on Capitol Hill." Maybe that's true but you dont say it outloud if you are in a race with 8 or 9 others and you got in on the last day! Im positive Cynthia took away a good chunk of Dean's potential votes. Granted I understand and even appreciate her passion (she felt so strongly about education, that she is on the Texas State Schoolboard, even though she homeschooled her children according to a friend of mine), but we cant send anyone from district 22 who is going make more waves. Plus the race was already way way too full of candidates, some of them good enough to legislate.
Regarding Kevin: He has served our country, speaks well, is passionate, and seems knowledgeable, but he is new to government as well, not a lawyer, and young, and again, there were too many in the race already. I like Kevin, dont get me wrong. Far be it from me to bash a fellow coog or veteran, especially since he was never negative to anyone else running. I think if he had more experience, perhaps a Texas our county seat, he would have been higher up on the list last night.
I think one of the more SANE ones was Alan Steinberg.
Once he realized that he would not be adding value to the republican cause, he stepped down and then immediately endorsed who he felt was the right candidate, Pete Olson. People said he was crazy to run at age 24, but he sure looked and sounded a lot better than others twice his age when he was active in the race. Sometimes there is a fine line between craziness and courage. Many people confuse the two and intend to be one but end up being the other (two way street). I suspect (and hope) we will see more of Alan !
of course I have no proof that Ben Domenech has the IQ below 100 but this post sure gives some evidence.
It has been 24 hours that I asked Ben Domenech to provide some proof that Shelly Gibbs is crazy. None has been offered to that effect.
So obviously Ben Domenech gets on a national republican blog and besmirches the character and sanity of a former Texas congress-person just to sling mud and promote some other candidate. She might have been appointed to the position but it was done by our current GOP Governor so you are besmirching his character as well.
That is something I would expect from a slimy Moveon.org nut but not a red-stater.
So all I can then conclude is Ben Domenech is a moron and a crazy person similar to most moveon.org nuts.
since it was you who asked about his proof, I can't imagine why he didn't put his life on pause and immediately answer.

Get your facts straight. House members aren't appointed. She was elected to finish the time remaining in the term of one retired Rep. Tom DeLay on the same day that now-Rep. Nick Lampson was elected for the full two year term. She ran in both the special election and the general election. Lampson ran only in the latter, so she won the special and he won the general. The Governor didn't appoint anyone to the seat.

Hello everyone in TX-22. John Wieder for Congress tx22 is issuing a challege to the two remaining Republicans to sign a proclaimation that they will immediatley cosponsor the right to life amendment put forth by tx14 Mr. Ron Paul. Enough is enough, because way to many polititions have run on a pro life ticket and then sit on their hands for however long of term they got elected for. Lets see, there is Ted Poe, pro life candidate beating out Nick to kill them fast Lamp-SIN!
I wonder what Edgar thinks about Poe. I, like many other conservatives have come to realize that Ted was a Poe choice for congressman.
Oh, Listen to Phil Gramm, hey I like that. Mr. Gramm. Front page of the Galveston Daily News. "Texas City/Hitchcock Navy Base Proposal headed by John Wieder! FEASIBLE!!!"
Go! Phil! go! says John Wieder TX22 Life begins @ Conception, he continued........to be or not to be cont.....Vote Libertarian in November 2008.

or I would have jumped at the chance to vote against her.
