Talk about no class: Barack Obama gives Hillary the middle finger. [UPDATED and bumped]

By Erick Posted in Comments (137) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

After losing the debate tonight, Obama gave Hillary the finger today. I don't know if he intended to do that hand gesture in his pause while talking about Hillary, but it is obvious the crowd thought it was an intentional raising of the middle finger.

See for yourself:

Has a candidate for President ever shot another candidate the bird from stage?

[UPDATED:] The Baltimore Sun was at a different angle. Definitely one finger. Definitely the crowd knew what he was doing.

[Additional:] The Los Angeles Times points it out too. Ben Smith might want to look at the different angle before eagerly myth busting.

Can we please, please get a new editor for this site? We've gone from articles of substance and quality in the not-too-distant past to a constant barrage of innuendo and half-truths. Erick, please hand control of this site over to someone with even the slightest bit of journalistic integrity. It's gone from reinforcing Republican and Conservative ideas to throwing out tabloidish garbage at every possible chance. Maybe I'll find one article a day that I feel like I can pass along to my Independent friends, whereas a few years ago everything that made the front page was a great piece of work. You'd do best taking lessons from Pejman on writing articles of substance.

Also note, before you throw out "so and so used this address before, BLAM", it's a Tor address. You'll see it again. I know I wouldn't get banned outright for posting this with my normal account, but I would make your s**tlist. The last thing I need to deal with is every single comment I write being analyzed with a microscope for a bannable offense.

I agree that the main blog site has been diluted with a lot of these 8 line blogs. I appreciate the long rebuttals to Obama, (in particular one of the first ones that dealt with Obama and his state legislative mentor-Emilee Whidbee?), but stuff like this middle finger should go under the redhot.

I actually do find this topic silly, especially when Sen. Obama in the past 3 days has 1) compared a Senator to a convicted terrorist and not apologized or explained the difference, 2) promised not to raise taxes on those making under $200K but on the same night said he'd consider lifting the SocSec tax that ends at $90K right now, and 3) dug the hole even deeper with his disrespectful comments about religious folks in small towns.

Those are evidence of his character. Whether there was one finger or two is taking our eyes off the ball.

Unfortunately, this dip had to go and make the argument in stupid terms that distract from what may have been a good point.

REALLY?? by kph1188

no...he's REALLY just scratching his face. Most people don't watch themselves on video to see what the finger-scratch looks like...honestly let's waste some more time on things that don't matter though. It's completely worth it.

Two points by simpson316

1.) Use reply to this so people know who you are talking to

2.) My wife, who is much more D inclined than I, immediately responded that there is no way that this wasn't on purpose. Keep in mind she teaches 7th graders so she sees this type of behavior all the time.

Now also found at The Minority Report

um by kph1188

no disrespect to your wife, but the actions of 7th grade children are slightly different than constantly-scrutinized presidential candidates. Secondly, the crowd reaction is to his pause, which is certainly used to dramatic effect. He stopped talking, looked around, and i guess scratched his face. It literally makes no sense, why would a presidential candidate do something even Michael Vick feels bad about?

Correction by Mario

"[T]he actions of 7th grade children are slightly different than constantly-scrutinized presidential candidates."

Correction: they are supposed to be different.

I consider it supporting evidence that the front page of the New York Times today (printed edition) ran the following headline, except the print version is muccccch different from the web version.

"Clinton Uses Sharp Attacks in Tense Debate"

The print version of the paper phrases it:

"Clinton Uses Broad Attacks in Tense Debate"

Everyone knows the Times now wants Hillary to lose, but calling her a broad was a little bit much, even for the Times.

I'm telling you...one of these days, Bill is going push the button (he saved the codes) and all of his media enemies are going to just be completely vaporized...BOOOOOM

No really ... by tylerderden

you are kidding right ... you use your middle finger by itself to scratch your face ?

Guess I was raised to use the middle finger with care because it might appear that I was shooting someone the bird ...

Its pretty obvious the crowd watching Obama thought he was giving her the bird ... so what is your response to them ?

I'd say the Obama supporters that were there are in a better position to tell us what he meant than you or I ... and they think he shot her the bird ... so I'm gonna go with the folks on scene and say, yes, he shot her the bird ...

Politicians are not most people. Moreover, major presidential candidates are not even typical politicians. Candidates such as Obama go through hours and hours of prep work prior to making a public appearance, so as to avoid gaffes such as fingergate. It is unbelievable that Obama so blatantly flips off Senator Clinton. It is shameful and also reflects poorly on the MSM that ignores this. Has campaigning devolved to a low where such boorish behavior is acceptable?

Matthew Weaver

http://www.TheProblemWithObama.com
http://www.TheObamaCult.com

The far left is angered that nothing of "substance" was debated this week between their candidates. The truth is that Obama was addressing that crowd in san francisco and speaking their AND his "language" when he belittled those that attend church (for non-political viability reasons) and own guns and do not support homosexual marriage. But, you see, that is what the far left has engaged brain cells long enough to know that speech is meant for them and NOT the general public. They would prefer the general public not know that Obama supports homosexual marriage, is against gun ownership and thinks that folks that go to church (for non-political viablity reasons) are morons and bitter imbeciles.

The thing is ABC did not want to bore their viewers (albeit solely hardcore Democratic voters) with the minutiae of whether Obama's campaign speech qualifies as being against the Iraq War before Hillary's campaign conversion against the war; and no one wanted to hear Hillary cackle for a half-hour about the "differences" between her "health care plan" vs. Obamas. No, what has the far left so upset is they wanted the Obama v. Clinto debate to be a three-way debate vs. McCain (without McCain actually being there). Shining a light on issues that the Obama campaign is eager to bring up in front of far left groups (and what he does on a regular basis, particularly homosexual groups) is definitely not want they want the "general public" to see or hear. That is why questions about the "bitter" comment, the US flag pin and other true reflections of his far-left wing views upset them so. Because the far-left agrees with Obama on homosexuals, guns and religion and his SF speech truly reflected his views as well.

Flipping Aside by muxedo76

I like how he complains it was their 21st debate and then complains it took 45 minutes to talk about what they've talked about in the first 20.

Is this the change we've been waiting for?

(1) Dry skin --- no, with skin that smooth and glowing, Barry must be using moisturizers that contain abortion placentas.
(2) Insect bites --- What mere insect dare to blight the skin of the Obamessiah?
(3) Nervousness or Anguish --- well when nervous I use several curled fingers to scratch and the motion is quick and involves nails. Now my anguish scratch is more of an open palm with the fingers rather than the nails.
(4) Muscle tic – sometimes forcing a smile will cause extra muscle strain and the cheek muscles may twitch – this might have been the purpose of the pinky scratch earlier in the speech; however, the placement of the second scratch does not appear to be excessive fake smiling induced due to the finger placement.

Nope – having watched the longer video from the Update ---

Barry is using a substantial number of physical gestures in this speech

(1) the I am saying something good here thumbs up,
(2) the I just said something meaningful and important to me full palm of the hand pulling close to the heart,
(3) the stabbing and thrusting the invisible knife --- these attacks are nasty and criminal, and
(4) the I am brushing off these attacks as if meaningless dandruff and I want you to treat the points about my character, my associations, my candor, as insubstantial as dandruff.

There are so many physical gestures in his speech that it is difficult to believe he isn’t constantly aware of all his physical motions. Plus, in this day and age, especially after the Seinfeld episode of the waitress flipping off George, no one under the age of 60 subconsciously uses their middle finger for anything but to flip someone off.

Now if talking about Obama's childish character of fipping off Hillary is too silly for you -- then we can talk about what his being an inexperienced, unaccomplished in his public life, Marxist socialist with no particular love for the United States.

Yesterday, MSM were all declaring Hillary's victory in the debate as questions remained unanswered regarding Wright, Weather Underground, patriotism, lies, positions, etc. He was hit with everything all at once the other night, and the stories today were going to be "Sissy candidate whines about having to answer voters' questions." Instead, the story today is "Obama scratches face with wrong finger." He'll deny it a few days until memory of the debate has blown over, then apologize with just as big a smirk on his face.

The argument can be made that it was accidental, but as an immature, inexperienced young fool (just like Obama), I cannot see how anyone can ultimately conclude that it was an accident. Unfortunately it worked, because I'm writing about it now.

Ah, Neal... by elmidd

I'd love to see your factual evidence for this assertion.

Have you ever even spoken to an Obama supporter?

My assumption is there wouldn't be much of a conversation -- you'd call the person a Marxist or an America-hater and the contact would be over.

It's funny, because I've spoken to many Obama supporters and none of them exhibited any signs of being a cultist. All have reservations about him, but believe he is a better choice than Clinton (untrustworthy, old politics, etc.) or McCain (not too bright, a continuation of Bush policies, etc). The most common thread in their support for Obama was the hope that he would be able to change the discourse in this country. But that's all it was -- a hope, since no one I've spoken to saw Obama as having much chance of succeeding.

And none of the Obama supporters spoke about McCain with anywhere near the antipathy that I have seen expressed by RedStaters many times (especially before he locked up the nomination and became the only way to stop a Democrat from being elected).

I await the results of your in-depth socio-psychological study revealing the evidence for your claim. (Note: I'm not holding my breath.)
