The Shadiness of Mark Warner
His record says it all. No words necessary.

Former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner will do whatever it takes to be popular and in 2008, that requires deceptive statements to cover his bad record on illegal immigration. Warner, a former 2008 presidential candidate, is now running for Senate and some speculate he’s vying for the vice-presidency as well.
Though he showed support for the failed 2007 immigration reform bill, he’s now trying to change his tune. Americans overwhelmingly opposed the “amnesty bill” and that included a majority of Democrat voters that Warner will need to support him now.

Campaigning this week, he told audiences that “the federal government needs to step up on enforcing illegal immigration.” But Warner has yet to contribute to that effort himself.
As Governor, Warner amended legislation that would give in-state tuition to undocumented immigrants.
According to a report by the Daily News Record in Harrisonburg, Virginia, Warner said, “If push come to shove, I probably would have voted for it.”
The National Republican Senatorial Committee has lambasted Warner for his immigration flip flops. If Warner were to win the Senate race or become a VP, his unstable leanings could be dangerous for the country.
NRSC Communications Director Rebecca Fisher said it was “ironic” that Warner running for the Senate by trying to “score a political victory on immigration” when his record proves the opposite of what he says on the issue.
Warner’s campaign responded by attacking Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.
“They might look at [Huckabee]’s position on being fair to the children of immigrants before they launch a mean spirited attack representing the worst of Washington style politics,” said Warner spokesman Kevin Hall, in a Washington Post article.
Warner wants the federal government to “step up” on illegal immigration enforce “sanctions if employers knowingly hired illegal immigrants.” But his words and record contradict one another.
A January 8 Rasmussen poll found that Warner lead Republican Jim Gilmore 53% to 38% in the race. However, Gilmore has gained about 15 points in Warner in less than two months campaigning and his campaign expects to up that number. Gilmore did not support the immigration bill.

As this post shows, Jim Gilmore can win this race and we Virginia Republicans need all the help we can get, so please check out Gov. Gilmore's website and see if we can't help him raise some money. THAT is what we need.
Gilmore's a true conservative, and will be a senator in the mold of a Jim DeMint.

that Gilmore has a chance? I'll be honest... I thought a win over Kaine was inevitable and we got punched. I honestly think that people will primarily remember him as the guy who lost to the unremarkable Kaine. My 2 cents.
No offense, but asking Virginians to consider his record will probably not hurt him in the Senate race. There is a reason he is the most popular politician in VA, namely his record as Governor.
What record is he running on? I don't know what he did, except deny tax increases were necessary, and then raise them anyway.
I'm shocked, SHOCKED I tell ya!

I don't get it. Mark Warner did nothing but raise taxes in VA. He has no particular ideology, or issues that are important to him. He is funny looking, and has a funny voice. And yet he is the most popular politician in VA.
Go figure.
