Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says he is undeterred by the possibility that his pursuit of nuclear weapons could lead to armed conflict with the United States, because he can prove mathematically that the U.S. will not respond:
"In some discussions I told them 'I am an engineer and I am examining the issue. They do not dare wage war against us and I base this on a double proof'," he said in the speech on Sunday, reported by the reformist Etemad Melli and Kargozaran newspapers.
"I tell them: 'I am an engineer and I am a master in calculation and tabulation.
"I draw up tables. For hours, I write out different hypotheses. I reject, I reason. I reason with planning and I make a conclusion. They cannot make problems for Iran.'"
This would be funnier if Ahmadinejad wasn't using this kind of reasoning to pursue weapons of mass destruction on behalf of a theocratic tyranny.

It is apparently commonly wondered in Iran how long this guy has. With the economy in shambles and not much else to write home about, it wouldn't be a shock for voters to dump him at the next opportunity.
In fact, Ahmadinejad realizes this. He knows that the only way to hold on to power is to create a crisis of sorts. That's precisely why he loves to taunt America. If he can create the image of an impending military crisis, his style of war-talk becomes suddenly appealing to the people.
Seriously, his actions are amazing. I mean, Ahmadinejad is war-mongering, creating false crisis, taunting other countries, creating the image of an impending military crisis... this is really a crazy situation. Sure am glad we don't have to worry about this kind of behavior from our leaders...

In 1940 and early 1941, before Pearl Harbor, Bataan, Correigiedor, Guam, and Wake Island, common knowledge had it that the United States had nothing to fear because the Japanese all wore thick glasses, they couldn't shoot striaght enought to be a danger to American troops.
Let's give Ahmadinejad his due. He's been crafty enough to stay where he is in Iranian politics, Israel was essentially deefeated by Iran's Hamas last summer, he's been able to get away with killing American Soldiers in Iraq with impunity. The laughter and smug humor should be put on hold until the point when he's lying dead on the morgue table in front of us, his body stripped and covered with 9mm or larger punctuation marks.
