What do Naomi Campbell and Sean Penn think about this?
Venezuelan student protesters were fired on, resulting in two gun-shot injuries, when they returned to campus today from a march opposing President Hugo Chavez's plan to rewrite the nation's constitution.
Seven more victims suffered other injuries, according to university official. Local television station Globovision broadcast images of protesters running for cover during the incident on the campus of the Universidad Central de Venezuela. One image showed a man in a black leather jacket firing a pistol twice. Interior Minister Pedro Carreno said at 7:10 p.m. New York time that the situation was under control.
Tens of thousands of students marched across downtown Caracas to the Supreme Court building today to petition for a delay to a planned referendum Dec. 2 on Chavez's proposal to modify the constitution. The changes would include eliminating presidential term limits, easing the seizure private property and reducing the powers of state governments.
Any chance that the next celebrity who finds himself/herself in Caracas will bring this issue up? Preferably with a sense of outrage?

The trick of the left is to make false accusations of tyranny at home, even while - probably literally in Campbell's case- sleeping with the real tyrant.
The article says "when they returned to campus today." It appears tear gas was at some point used to disburse the protest at the courthouse based on a later part of the article, but the shooting was the work of a lone gunman at the school. Is "black leather jacket" supposed to infer a police officer or other government agent? I don't know what they wear there so it's possible, but you'd think they would say police if it was the police. I certainly don't like Chavez, but it looks like this wasn't any official position of the government there.

... will manage to get their smug, smarmy, stupid mugs caught in the cross-fire the next time they decide to visit "Uncle Ugo" to whiz on the "evil" United States.
One could even go so far as to suggest that, as a result, they get the opportunity to sample first hand "Uncle Ugo's", erm, first-rate medical and "justice" systems.
Well, it's what I hope for.
