Michael Moore starts a war for peace

(life during wartime)

This is War

The Democrat fringe has its scalp, and now it wants a stack of casualties. This arrived in my Inbox this morning, and it is replicated on the web site of filmmaker/author/philosopher/political scientist/media mogul/acrobat/beer taster Michael Moore:

Friends,

Let the resounding defeat of Senator Joe Lieberman send a cold shiver down the spine of every Democrat who supported the invasion of Iraq and who continues to support, in any way, this senseless, immoral, unwinnable war. Make no mistake about it: We, the majority of Americans, want this war ended -- and we will actively work to defeat each and every one of you who does not support an immediate end to this war.

Nearly every Democrat set to run for president in 2008 is responsible for this war. They voted for it or they supported it. That single, stupid decision has cost us 2,592 American lives and tens of thousands of Iraqi lives. Lieberman and Company made a colossal mistake -- and we are going to make sure they pay for that mistake. Payback time started last night.

I realize that there are those like Kerry and Edwards who have now changed their position and are strongly anti-war. Perhaps that switch will be enough for some to support them. For others, like me -- while I'm glad they've seen the light -- their massive error in judgment is, sadly, proof that they are not fit for the job. They sided with Bush, and for that, they may never enter the promised land.

To Hillary, our first best hope for a woman to become president, I cannot for the life of me figure out why you continue to support Bush and his war. I'm sure someone has advised you that a woman can't be elected unless she proves she can kick ass just as crazy as any man. I'm here to tell you that you will never make it through the Democratic primaries unless you start now by strongly opposing the war. It is your only hope. You and Joe have been Bush's biggest Democratic supporters of the war. Last night's voter revolt took place just a few miles from your home in Chappaqua. Did you hear the noise? Can you read the writing on the wall?

To every Democratic Senator and Congressman who continues to back Bush's War, allow me to inform you that your days in elective office are now numbered. Myself and tens of millions of citizens are going to work hard to actively remove you from any position of power.

If you don't believe us, give Joe a call.

Yours,
Michael Moore

The man has tasted blood, now he thinks he can rip apart the entire Democrat Party. For Republicans, this can be fun to watch. The nuts have a grip on that Party, they are a living, breathing, elected part of it. The erstwhile party of Andrew Jackson, JFK, and the second President Roosevelt are now the party of Howard Dean, Barbara Boxer, Nancy Pelosi, and Michael Moore. (You know the other names which belong on the list.)

Can I chuckle?

Named for the Angel of God, this Michael could be the Democrats' Angel of political death.

Wars tend to have rules. by spainishirish

The Kossacks won't take prisoners, honor truces, or respect the chain of command. And Michael Moore just threw his lot with the sorest loser of them all, Al Gore, and let the world know Sen. Clinton will not be an honored guest at any Las Vegas function that would invite him.

Wars have collateral damage... by Lamplighter331

I agree, but I also think that this is not a time for Republicans to sit and watch the mayhem. Rightly or wrongly, the war will be an issue in November. This provides an opening for Republicans to take the offensive. They need to fill the vacuum as the Democratic Party fights itself. Also, the hatred that the Dems have for President Bush may outweigh the anti-war sentiment. Given that the stated Democratic intention is to impeach the President, should they take control, I would hope that this internecine fighting among the donkeys doesn't become a spectator sport for Republicans. They still need to fight. Remember, Lieberman has a good chance of winning as an Independent, which means he'll still caucus with the Left, and will still support their agenda.

"sorest loser of them all," by TerrytheTurtle

"sorest loser of them all," - I just read his 2000 concession speech - what part of that makes him a 'sore loser'?

The lapse of time by spainishirish

between the election and the speech.

Nope, that was just politics by TerrytheTurtle

Nope, that was just politics - its called 'counting all the votes'. You are interested in counting the votes aren't you?

You mean like the Gore lawyers high-fiving each other when they got military votes tossed in 2000?

We should have some real fun with the Delay election if the GOP has a write-in candidate. We can be sure there will be a few hundred Dem operatives flown in trying to get every write-in vote tossed.

Actually I thought the voter by TerrytheTurtle

Actually I thought the voter scrubbing of Black voters ('voting while Black') by Katherine Harris had a greater impact. Funny you mention this: 'We can be sure there will be a few hundred Dem operatives flown in trying to get every write-in vote tossed' - wasn't that the cause of thousands of canned votes in Florida too?

Florida 2000 was a mess by NotSoBlueStater

But you are aware that the majority of independent recounts still showed Bush winning. It's a fallacy to say otherwise -- regardless of which factor you consider.

They surely better not fall back on an implosion of the Dems and their continual shift leftwards. The Repubs have just as many problems coalescing the base and her "fringes". I, for one, am no closer to being "happy" about voting "R" than before Joe's defeat. The Republicans have no less abandoned my conservatism needs now, than before Joe's defeat.

This should be absolutely NOT a snoopy dance; it better be a wake up call.

All that happened last night for me was that a window has been opened by the Dems, and a renewed opportunity to contrast middle-America conservatism with ever-leftward-extremism. The Repubs have a new opportunity to go farther right and draw the distinctions more clearly...and should they embrace conservatism through this new window, I will feel less the need for a shower the day after the elections in November.

What about last week? by NotSoBlueStater

What's interesting here is that Hillary's staged attack on Rumsfeld last week seems to have left the far left unimpressed.

Odd.

Let Them! by tsquare

Okay maybe not doing the Snoopy happy dance.

But when the other guy is self-destructing…

Get the Mell out of his way!

To win anything, these guys, with the help of the MSM, has to convince millions of voters, voters that in 2004 support the war and voted GOP, to vote for them.

Now, they have to do this in the face of:

The war, isn’t going as bad as it was in 2004
Millions of troops have rotated into and out of Iraq and know and are telling the real story about what is going on.

Also…just how much more insanely upset at Bush could they be? How much more money can they raise? How many more voters can they turn out?

More than 2004? I just don’t know if any of that is physically possible.

If these clowns really want to be the ‘peace at any price party’, I say:

“Go for it boys & girls!”

On a related note… I hope that someone has called ol’ Joe and told him, ‘Joe, if you run and win, we sure hope you caucus with us in the GOP. There is a nice Committee Chairmanship waiting for you.’

Wouldn’t that be sweet…

Sweet? by scmock

No, not at all. The man votes with Dems at a rate of something like 90% and has a lifetime ACU rating of 17. he may or may not be better than Lamont, but he certainly is no conservative.

an ACU rating in the teens is considered pretty far to the right.

If I'm reading Dean Barnett's review of Michael Moore's war cry correctly, he threw a challenge our way as well:

P.S. Republicans -- sorry to leave you out of this letter. It's just that our side has a little housecleaning to do. We'll take care of you this November.

Okay--on the count of three, all of you Republicans, quake in your boots!

(pause)

(inaudible voice in the background)

I'm sorry, I can't hear you--what did you say?

(still inaudible voice in the background)

Oh--good point. Yes, if you're already quaking from laughter, after reading that threat from MegaDork, that'll work, too. Just make sure you're wearing your boots.

:)
