So You Say John Kerry Was Only Joking?
The Election's Over. No Need To Sound "Tough and Strong"

I want to make it abundantly clear: if there's anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.
Sure, some people join the military because the best way of advancement available to them, and maybe that's particularly true in Rangel's Harlem district - it was true of Rangel himself, by his own account (though I somehow doubt that that is the only motivator even for soldiers from Harlem, either). But the incoming Chairman of one of the House's most powerful committees has been in Congress for 36 years, and has no excuse for his ignorance about the nature of the all-volunteer military.

Charlie Rangel is a perpetual, walking orgasm. Rangel projects his reasons for joining the service on to all other people.
2006 is done, 2008 is another day and another fight
What guys like Rangel think about the cops.
"No compromise with the main purpose, no peace till victory, no pact with unrepentant wrong." - Winston Churchill
Envisioning when all that is Left is the Right.
John Kerry's remarks were not a joke; they were a symptom of the leftist disease, a disease that destroys their inner morals and leaves them unable to understand why anyone would want to fight for their country. To leftists, this country is not worth fighting for or saving. Leftists don't believe in anything, have no faith in anything. They are pessimists who see the worst in everything.
When they see religion, they see intolerance, violence, and hypocracy.
When they see the military, they see poor, uneducated barbarians raping and pillaging an innocent people.
When they see this country, they see an oppressive behemoth that is destroying the planet.
Yuck. What a miserable philosophy. Being angry and jaded is no way of life for me. That's why I'm a conservative.
We, the GOP, will vote unanimously to support your draft resolution, assuming the following changes are made to its text.
A) There will be no educational deferment. If we need to win at all costs, we'd better suit up our best and brightest.
B) There will be no conscientous ojector status. If they conscientously object to defending our great nation, I conscientously object to having their sorry @$$e$ living here.
C) There will be no preferential assignment to Reserve, National Guard, OCS or ROTC programs. The services will assess incoming draftees and make those assignments themselves. The draftee can request these types of programs, but beyond expressing intrest, they can pull no wires to get in one.
Do that, CHuckles, and we'll make the vote unanimous and ask to see the "Yeas" and "Neas", just to make sure everybody is ponying up to save our great experimant in democracy.
2006 is done, 2008 is another day and another fight
D) There will be no Peace Corps/America Corps/"national service" alternative either. All military, all the time.

Thanks for the snappy proofread.

They should be drafted and sent to medic/corpsman school.

placed in the non combat positions.
I also think that service members that become CO's after joining up, should be shifted to these areas rather than given discharges.
people join the military is because they felt trapped and like they had no options. I suspect that is the only reason they could see joining up, therefore they project their reason on everyone else.
When my husband was in the military I don't recall meeting a single person who joined the Navy because they were poor and unemployed. There probably are some who join for those reasons, and there are definitely those who join because of the education benefits.
But I think it is insulting to those people who volunteered to basically infer that they are stupid, or had no other options, but I also think that the Rangel's and Kerry's of the left really do believe it. Kerry's "joke" may have been intended as a joke, but it reveals what he and many others actually think about our military men and women.
The MSM is uninterested, and it likely wants to preserve Rangel as a weapon to be used against the GOP in the future. Hence, there's a downside to undermininig his credibility now.
And, repeating HIS OWN WORDS undermines his credibility. So, the MSM will not repeat them with any prominence. They will most likely REPORT them...on page A13, under some half-page advertisement.

It shows that not only is the volunteer force made up of recruits who are much more highly educated, and at or above the income levels of the population as a whole. In addition it shows that the inner city/ghetto segment is the only part of the population that has decreased its representation in the military since 2001.
Rangel's personal experience in the drafted army is simply not relevant to our current situation.

Bipartisanship = give + take. Republicans give. Democrats take.
The League of Women Shoppers, and men too, whom I encountered Friday at the mall were truly fierce. I'll put them up against any militia in the world.
Keeping the American economy strong is not for the weak and timid.
Rangel has no appreciation for what average Americans are doing and instead he wants to exploit his own bigotry toward people he refuses to understand.
The all volunteer army works for me.
This arrogant pig's concept of patriotism, and the rest of the Democratic party's as well, consists of the typical behavior engaged in by a thirteen year old pubescent male after having successfully found a secluded spot and is engrossed in the process of relieving his testosterone overload.

The gist is as follows:
WASHINGTON, Nov. 27 /Standard Newswire/ -- The National Commander of The American Legion called on Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) to apologize for suggesting that American troops would not choose to fight in Iraq if they had other employment options."Our military is the most skilled, best-trained all-volunteer force on the planet," said National Commander Paul A. Morin. "Like that recently espoused by Sen. John Kerry, Congressman Rangel's view of our troops couldn't be further from the truth and is possibly skewed by his political opposition to the war in Iraq."
[SNIP]
According to the study, 97 percent of military enlistees were high school graduates versus 80 percent of Americans in general. The study also concludes that the average reading level of military personnel is a full grade level higher than that of the general population.
"I'm not sure I understand what is unfair about letting adults make their own career choices," Morin said as he visited troops in Korea this week. "Troops serving today have a higher education level than the overall population. Why another member of Congress is insulting our troops' commitment and education level is beyond me."
Morin said the American Legion applauds and appreciates the great sacrifices of those who serve -- many of whom have put civilian careers aside, college on hold or given up high paying jobs to enlist.
More and more troops say it's duty and honor before college fund that motivated them to join. Recruiting numbers have been met this year, but more importantly, servicemembers are reenlisting so retention within the armed forces is great, Morin explained. Not everyone holds the view that we should wait to be attacked again as a nation.

Police Officers, Fire Fighters, EMT's, and all of the other First Responders inside the Country?
Surely, by Charlie's logic, NO police officer wants to fight crime. NO Fireman wants to run into a burning Trade Center to save lives. Surely no EMT wants to see all of the horror and violence that they see in NYC/Harlem, Detroit, Baltimore etc...
It appears that Charlie not only lacks a positive number in the IQ department but he also lacks the intestinal fortitude that it would take to understand the 'Hero' gene! The American Liberal Elite just do not get it.
What a pure loser Charlie Rangel has become!! I guess ignorance is bliss. How else can you explain how morons like him get elected. Charlie is clearly among the Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Mel Reynolds types.
