Life in the political spotlight isn't getting any easier for Nancy Pelosi:
The two meetings House Speaker Nancy Pelosi attended before a vote on a resolution labeling the massacre of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey a genocide foreshadowed the biggest political misstep of her speakership.
In the hours before a House panel approved the resolution Oct. 10, Pelosi was told in a tense meeting with Turkey's ambassador that the vote would endanger his country's alliance with the U.S. She had a warmer session with an Armenian cleric and representatives of Armenian-Americans, who have a large presence in her home state of California. In both, she made clear she intended to bring the resolution to a full House vote.
Since then, Pelosi, 67, has been in retreat. Her vow to bring the measure to a vote outraged Turkey, which recalled its ambassador and threatened to cut off the use of its military bases to resupply U.S. troops in Iraq. On Oct. 17, Pelosi said it ``remains to be seen'' whether the vote would occur after more than a dozen lawmakers pulled their names from the measure and some Democrats asked her to drop it.
``It's a good resolution but a horrible time to be considering it on the House floor,'' said Representative Mike Ross of Arkansas, one of the Democrats who withdrew his support.
``She dug in her heels to find that she didn't have her members with her,'' said Representative Ray LaHood, an Illinois Republican. ``If you get too far out in front of them, it can be embarrassing.''
Tell us about it. And it isn't as if others haven't noticed the confusion emanating from the Speaker's office:
There are three relevant questions concerning the Armenian genocide.
(a) Did it happen?
(b) Should the U.S. House of Representatives be expressing itself on this now?
(c) Was House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's determination to bring this to a vote, knowing that it risked provoking Turkey into withdrawing crucial assistance to American soldiers in Iraq, a conscious (columnist Thomas Sowell) or unconscious (blogger Mickey Kaus) attempt to sabotage the U.S. war effort?
The answers are:
(a) Yes, unequivocally.
(b) No, unequivocally.
(c) God only knows.
It would be wrong to think this, but Republicans could perhaps be forgiven for believing that they no longer need to fight that hard against the Speaker's initiatives. She seems to do a perfectly fine job in sabotaging them by herself.

but only after many reccomendations. The thing is this, we hope that our political opponents are sound, but that is more often not the case. I say this with foreboding, not glee. I pine for the days when "liberal" meant FDR, Truman, and JFK. The reality today is very scary. The comments about Pelosi, reffering to her criticism of Pete Stark, we way worse than you could even imagine. I am not easily offended, we are talking criminal here, and we are talking so called "progressives".

Period.
Holding Turkey accountable for something the Ottoman empire did nearly 100 years ago is a fallacy and pointless gesture.
Only democrats would think it worth doing.
Pelosi was in this to wreck the war. She has proven, with her lack of action on Darfur, her quiet acceptance of Rwanda, her silence regarding Myanmar, that she does not give a fig about genocides. Her party denies one even took place in Cambodia or that hundreds of thousands were murdered in Vietnam.
Genocide don't mean squat to a modern democrat. But forcing defeat in a war, deliberately misquoting private citizens, seeking censorship, defending terrorists - these are the priorities of the modern democrat party as led by Pelosi and Reid.
There is no reason to think this stunt was anything other than an effort to further her true priorities.
You can't lose sight of the important things in life, especially in an ever changing world. Next on the table, a resolution condemning Columbus for discovering America.
My bet, it was planned to leave a mess for Bush. Otherwise it was senseless even by Democratic standards. Senseless in any case but that's the reality based community for you.
"a man's admiration for absolute government is proportinate to the contempt he feels for those around him". Tocqueville
Pelosi is unprincipled and palpably calculating. Her pandering to Armenian-American voters in her district goes back many years (Pelosi-Armenians, 1998).
House Speakers tend to be extremely calculating characters. That's how they get to be Speaker. Their own power and advancement generally supercede consideration of the nation's best interests. That's one of the reasons they are so often despised when they reach the national stage.
... yes, consciously attempting to sabotage America's war effort, any means, anyway, any how. This from the city pictured warmly and graciously welcoming Bill Halsey and his Third Fleet back to harbor after the end of its war at sea in the Pacific, which now sees fit to expel any and all mementos from its soil of that prodigious fleet.
The Democrats, who universally feel that having twelve San Francisco males walk down to the water's edge, disrobe and amuse themselves while facing in Iran's direction is all the national defense we need, time and again prove themselves to have the foreign policy 'savoir faire' of Neville Chamberlain, the English Politician noted for making one of the greatest foreign policy blunders ever.
Terry McAuliffe, former DNC Chairman, should use some of his eighteen millions of ill gotten Global Crossing gains to pose the entire Democratic field of Presidential aspirants in a group photo, all wearing black, horn rimmed glasses, simultaneously waving a sheet of white paper in their outstretched, upraised right hands repeating "peace in our time".
" In War;Resolution: In Defeat;Defiance"- Winston Churchill, definitely a man who knew what it took to win.
Is if the Turks do go ahead with their threat to pursue Kurdish rebels into Iraq is that we will be at war with Turkey (currently a long-term ally)immediately after.

but only for today :) This lady is a lefty loon, I will stipulate that, but she leads people that are so crazy they make her look sane and moderate. If you doubt me, go to Kos and see the most vile comments imaginable about her tonight.
I was going to link, but decided the Red State directors would not appreciate it. But I will say this, these same people sometimes defend Kos and his followers when we "get out of line". I think the reality, the reality that anyone with a web browser can deduce, is that Billo was right, Kos is a hate site full stop.
