Not with a bang, but a couple of aspirin washed down by coffee provided by the truly angelic keep-us-sweet blogger herders.
This was pretty fun. Exceedingly doubtful that I'll make it next year - unless I bring the kid - but this was well worth checking out. Met a goodly number of fellow-bloggers in meatspace, got to hang out, had somebody recognize my name and say nice things about my work: good stuff.
Read on.
As to the, you know, actual reasons for me being here in the first place: this was Romney's, Giuliani's and (to a smaller extent) Brownback's event. Romney came in with guns blazing, and came this close to dominating the event. The fact that he didn't was because of:
a), Brownback's own pep squads. You couldn't throw a flip-flop in this place without it bouncing off the heads of at least three Brownbackers shouting for their guy*;
and
b), Giuliani showed up. This is open to controversy, of course: heck, our own front page writers disagree over how well he did, or even whether he did well at all. I'm thinking that he did, at least well enough to give him credibility with enough of the social conservatives. Which was pretty much what he was aiming for.
Failures? McCain went down in flames over this and Gilmore, Tancredo and Hunter didn't really move any. McCain must be of the opinion that he doesn't actually need conservatives to win the election (whether he cares about winning the Republican nomination has been noised about, in fact). Bluntly, I'm going to be looking forward to him being proved wrong on this. I'm not really sold on whom I'm for, but rest assured that I've worked out whom I'm against, and his name's John McCain. And I'm hardly the only one here with that reaction.
Lastly, some people are so bleeping wistful about Newt Gingrich at this place.
As I said, this was fun, and I'm glad for the opportunity to blog CPAC. Hope you enjoyed as well.
Moe
*They and the Romneyites have been mercifully quiet today, no doubt because it got exceedingly drunk out last night for a large number of people.

what I saw from Huckabee was pretty good. Fred Barnes said that he was thinking of checking it out but never got around to it: "They're meeting across town."
Was there any talk at CPAC about Fred Thompson? His possibility, which might soon become ever-present, was a big story on Special Report (FNC) Friday, but I've not looked into it since.
Huckabee is a "pro-amnesty for illegal immigrants" politician.
Based on what statement of policy by Huckabee do you make that assertion? I'd like to read that policy myself.

Call it what you will but based on Foley's quote of Huckabee is not amnesty. There are more accurate ways to articulate that position. People who keep calling a generous/lax/wrist-slap policy amnesty are polarizing the discussion and I consider it disingenuous. Please use the adjectives described above or consider lenient, indulgent, forbearing, soft, or easy.
In case this isn't clear, if someone is for amnesty they will say something to the effect of:
"I think we should forgive illegal aliens of their immigration-related crimes (or all crimes) and allow them to become citizens with no negative action taken."
That's amnesty.
"The pain inflicted by your country's indifference is tenfold that inflicted by your ruthless captors."
Rep Sam Johnson on the House floor commenting on his experience as a Vietnam POW
All future amnesty and favoritism towards illegal immigrants by politicians from both major parties will only cause conservatives to eventually lose their political clout for the long-term throughout the U.S. Leftist politicians will eventually end up creating new voters out of the endless numbers of illegals that keep coming here to take advantage of all of the amnesty programs and favoritism that's given to them by "pro-amnesty" politicians, and the illegals will end up rewarding these politicians by registering to vote and then voting for leftist and "pro-amnesty" politicians for the long-term throughout the U.S.! Conservatives won't be able to compete for an equal number of new voters for the conservative side, and conservatism will end up being profoundly weakened and eventually killed off! All enforcement of all of the present laws that deal with illegal immigration throughout the U.S. must be finally, fully, and successfully done asap for the sake of sanity and for the sake of the survival of the entire U.S. as a country for the long-term!
Still waiting on you providing a link to a statement from Huckabee showing where he's "pro illegal alien".

"Gov. Mike Huckabee has not yet filed a bill after his proposal a few weeks ago to offer state-funded college financial aid to illegal aliens who graduate from high school in Arkansas."
Snip
"Governor Huckabee says he's not afraid of risking his political future by speaking out against a recent immigration raid at an Arkadelphia poultry plant"
There’s this:
"As the governor of Arkansas, he championed tax increases, expanded state insurance programs, and opposed the banning of state services for illegal aliens."
And this:
"Mike Huckabee: Well, I'm not as sure that leaving and then coming back is as important as it is to acknowledge that what they've done is illegal, pay a fine, and then get in line behind the people that are going through the process of being here legally. It's important that we have a legal process."
All of which can be found here Huckabee illegal aliens.

I know nothing about him, other than this article
Steven Foley responded already plus I will also give you two links to other sites on the subject as well: http://www.betterimmigration.com/candidates/2006/prez08_gop3.html http://www.alipac.us/modules.php?name=News&file=print&sid=631 He also has been criticised as a Governor for problems involving government spending and for problems involving flying privileges among other things: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Huckabee and look at his criticisms section, and for his flying problems, go to http://mikehuckabee.com/index.htm
Cool to meet you at CPAC this week. Keep up the good work.
