This is refreshing. The White House is really going all out in implementing the Coburn-Obama bill - the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act.

They don't have to put the site online until January 2008. They went ahead and have taken the site live and they want to hear from you about what you want to find. They are using the Sunlight Foundation's federal spending website as a model.

There are lots and lots of types of spending, from loans to grants to contracts. They are still trying to get it all organized, but they really want to know how to make it most useful for you, the end user. So, go here and check out the site. Let them know what would work best. You can find their implementation schedule and their plan.

Keep in mind that the site is new, they are rolling it out slowly, and there will be some things you want that aren't there now, but will be. Kudos for them going on and rolling this out a year ahead of schedule *and* seeking end user input as they move forward.

Long Overdue by TexasGringo

This should have happened years ago. As horrible as the Dems will be on so many issues, the fact that this happens only after the Dems take control just reinforces my belief that the party lost its way and became corrupted by DC.

Dems Didn't Do This by Hans Sprungfeld

TexasGringo - this didn't "happen" after Democrats took the control. The law that OMB is following was written and passed by Sen. Tom Coburn, arguably the most conservative person in Congress. And the law was passed last year, before the Dems took control.

My bad. I confused this by TexasGringo

My bad. I confused this with some of the recent changes regarding earmarks (to which my original comments still apply).

I will say Coburn has never lost his way, however. Too bad more Republicans in Congress were not like him; they might still be Congressmen.

You're exactly right on by Hans Sprungfeld

You're exactly right on earmarks. It's sad how quickly we went from the party of fiscal responsibility to the party of the Bridge to Nowhere.

Who is the originator by 10ksnooker

what is missing is who sponsored the award, the Congress-critter who did the deed.
