2,000 Dead

2,000 dead. Worldwide air transportation disrupted for months. Except that Allah was apparently not willing. Instead, police in the UK have arrested 21 people after a covert investigation lasting several months. It is not known whether any of those subjected to covert surveillance were UK citizens. The Wall Street Journal, quoting an unnamed source, says only, "the group was largely comprised of British residents of Pakistani origin."

"Put simply this was a plot to commit mass murder on an unimaginable scale."

The plan was to blow up airliners full of people on their way from the UK to the US. This would have involved an explosive new to the terrorism scene, a liquid that can be masked by mixing it with a soft drink, lotion, etc. As a consequence, all liquids are now suspect. Passengers trying to board flights at Heathrow are being told they may not bring any carry-on luggage with them whatsoever. In the U.S., drinks, gels, and lotions have been banned from all flights.

We take our eyes off the Global War on Infidels (GWOI) at our peril. While we are celebrating our election victories, those less inclined toward democracy are planning to kill us. We cannot afford to forget that. We will wind up dead if we do. "We" cannot decide to have peace. The Other Guys have to want it too. Obviously they don't.

We will no doubt hear from the Astrology-Based Community that the timing of these arrests is suspect, coming as they do just as their candidate in the Connecticut primary was transiting Jupiter on his way to Stamford. Alas, some people are wedded to the notion that everything in the world is about them. I expect to hear any minute that if John Kerry were president, these Pakistanis in Britain would be happily weaving baskets instead assembling explosives. The sad part is, some of them really believe it.

The observation is that the press has been very circumspect about describing the suspects. Parsing through a dozen or so accounts one can find that they are all male, they are British born, they are of “Asian” origin, and there are “links to Pakistan.” All in all they sound like they resemble the perpetrators of the July 7, 2005 subway bombings in most respects. I’ll even go out on a limb here and predict we will find that most, if not all, are Muslims.

The prediction is a no brainer: Chimpy McBushitler is panicked over a Democrat congress being elected and the prospect of endless investigations so he had Dick Cheney set this up to scare the bejeezus out of American voters just like he did with the bin Laden tape released in October 2004.

Probably Southern Baptists under the direction of Karl Rove.

Envisioning when all that is Left is the Right.

Well, right you are. And straight from DK (surpise, surprise). Writer Larry C Johnson states in his blog called "The British Lose Their Minds" the following:

In the back of my mind, I worry that this threat might be trumped up in order to divert attention from the disastrous US and British policy (or lack of policy) in Lebanon.

Earlier in the post he writes The last significant, successful plot to bomb a plane was in January 1995, when a group linked to Osama Bin Laden (this group included Ramsi Yousef, mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, and Khalid Sheik Muhammed, nephew of OBL)....It was disrupted when an informant, Ishtiak Parker, walked into the US Embassy in Pakistan and ratted (emphasis mine)out Ramsi Yousef.

"Ratted out" - is that a bad thing??

He concludes with More likely, we have an informant in the UK that identified a potential plot that was in the dreaming stage but had not progressed to actual implementation. Rather than act like security professionals, the Brits are acting like panicked nannies. Very sad.

Sad indeed -- that someone could possibly come up with this nonsense but sadly, the left never fails to do so.

"The greater danger is not that our hopes are to high and we fail to reach them; it is that they are to low and we do." Michaelangelo

It would offend Muslims, if it is reported that the plotters were Muslim. As we know, offending Muslims is almost a crime in Londonistan.

one can only wonder whether the NY Times would have broken a story about some illegal means or profiling being used to track these folks a week ahead of time.

In a similar vein, I wonder why the FBI was tracking the 11 "missing" Egyptian students. If they wouldn't have been involved so quickly were they from say Switzerland, then it sounds like the FBI needs to take more sensitivity training instead of assuming the worst about followers of the Religion of Peace.

a) is Islam a religion of peace or not?

b) are we at war, and is this war winnable?

"stay the course" ....seems to be appropriate, if not "kick it up a notch"

at least for the next couple of years. Put a Democrat in the White House and the answers will likely change. But just to be fair, the answers are:

a) is Islam a religion of peace? No. And it can't be recognized as such until the religious leaders of Islam around the world openly and freely cooperate with authorities to find and break terror organizations. When CAIR puts out a press release that Hezbollah and Hamas are terrorist organizations and Allah will condemn you to a burning eternity in hell for supporting them I'll think maybe we're seeing some progress. Until then, the words "Muslim" and "terrorist" go together quite nicely.
b) are we at war, and is this war winnable? You'd never know it by the actions of the Administration. Administration officials talk about a "war on terror" while, until the last couple of weeks, studiously avoiding the words Islam or Muslim. They fret about "profiling". They have not brought indictments or prosecution against even ONE person for leaking highly classified documents to the seditious editors of the New York Times and WaPo. So, to answer your question directly, other than my son's Marine Corps Battalion being deployed to Iraq, no, you'd never get the idea that we are at war. And no, until the Administration gets serious about the war and exactly who we are at war with, it's not winnable.

-----
If "pro" is the opposite of "con", what is the opposite of "progress"?

According to Fox News, the plot isn't totally thwarted.

Tapping phones, violating privacy, crushing civil liberties?
Is the the price we have to pay? Question is asked with much chest pounding and indignant rage. I would think that there are a couple of thousand tourists who don't mind right about now.

The world war goes on, except it isn't recognized as such.

Clearly, the only reason this is timed badly, is that hte people planning the announcement were accidently given one of the flyers that Republicans use to disenfranchise minorities! You know, telling people the wrong election date and all?

See! Fitzgerald has Rove concerned! That's why this didn't work!

If you're seeing shades of gray, it's because you're not looking close enough to see the black and white dots.

Because, hobbled by a press that likes to tell our enemies just how we're trying to prevent them from pulling off their mission and an FBI/CIA that refuses to recognize acts of terrorism and an Administration that still seems incapable of reminding our citizens what we're fighting for, We certainly aren't...

We're coming up on 5 years of no big attacks in America and counting, and we all know it's not for lack of effort.

Good point. But by Torn Victor

unfortunately we can't stop them all. This one seemed to have been pretty close to occurring, and reports are that not all of the terrorists have been apprehended yet (though all the major players have been, according to Fox).

Count the number of times the MSM identifies the plotters as "muslims" or "islamic", versus the number of times the MSM gratuitously mentions "the war in Iraq" as a ROOT CAUSE of the plotters' anger.
No mention, of course, that Islamic terrorists have been targeting us since long before Iraq.

"Put simply this was a plot to commit mass murder on an unimaginable scale."

There's nothing unimaginable about it at all. Nearly 3,000 were killed on 9/11.

This is not going to be good.

It's days like today by Checkpoint Charlie

that I look back for an old Reagan quote such as:
