We Ought Hope It's Not Like Somalia

This morning, the RS Insider saw Senator Feingold on CNN’s American Morning citing the US withdrawal from Somalia…

HOST: “[Your legislation] forces a redeployment of the troops because there's a date certain that the funding will be cut off. … ”

Sen. Feingold (D-WI):  “It's just like Somalia. We had to get the troops out of there, it wasn't working out. We didn't take anything away from the troops”.

Also citing the US withdrawal from Somalia…

  • OSAMA BIN LADEN:  “After a few blows, [America] rushed out of Somalia in shame and disgrace, dragging the bodies of its soldiers. America stopped calling itself world leader…  I was in Sudan when this happened. I was very happy to learn of that great defeat that America suffered...”

And…

  • OSAMA BIN LADEN: “We believe that the defeat of America is possible … We experienced the Americans through our brothers who went into combat against them in Somalia, for example. We found they had no power worthy of mention. … America exited dragging its tails in failure, defeat, and ruin, caring for nothing. America left faster than anyone expected. … [America] gathered up its army, and withdrew in defeat, thanks be to God.”

The RS Insider recalls hearing something about what happens when people forget the past.

Anyone who can't see the link between Somalia and 9/11 had GOT to have vision problems. But I'm not volunteering to do the eye test...

Is beyond belief.
To openly support terrorists, which is what the dems now do, only shows how far they have fallen.
But this kind of degeneracy did not happen in a vacuum.
The dems are at heart cowards.
They are only taking these slimeball positions because of weak leadership.
The first time they even started down this road, it whould have been hammered day and night by everyone in the Administration, from the Prez down to the WH janitor that democrats voted for this war and they are not going to undermine it.
The Prez should have given speeches showing quotes from Al Qaeda and the dems, showing how exactly the same they are.
Instead he went passive aggressive and hunkered down.
Enough of this.

I just don't see any other option when they model their actions on events which have inspired our enemies.

That the Somalia pull-out was legislated by the Republicans? Here's a link to the Heritage Foundation calling for it: http://www.heritage.org/Research/MiddleEast/bu202.cfm

what I remember is this stirring speech by Senator John McCain in 1993 on the issue of Somalia:

There is no reason for the United States of America to remain in Somalia. The American people want them home, I believe the majority of Congress wants them home, and to set an artificial date of March 31 or even February 1, in my view, is not acceptable. The criteria should be to bring them home as rapidly and safely as possible, an evolution which I think could be completed in a matter of weeks.

Our continued military presence in Somalia allows another situation to arise which could then lead to the wounding, killing or capture of American fighting men and women. We should do all in our power to avoid that.

I listened carefully to the President’s remarks at a news conference that he held earlier today. I heard nothing in his discussion of the issue that would persuade me that further U.S. military involvement in the area is necessary. In fact, his remarks have persuaded me more profoundly that we should leave and leave soon.

Dates certain, Mr. President, are not the criteria here. What is the criteria and what should be the criteria is our immediate, orderly withdrawal from Somalia. And if we do not do that and other Americans die, other Americans are wounded, other Americans are captured because we stay too long–longer than necessary–then I would say that the responsibilities for that lie with the Congress of the United States who did not exercise their authority under the Constitution of the United States and mandate that they be brought home quickly and safely as possible. . . .

there, it's really very simple. To try and equate the two together, for someone with such an amazing memory to forget little things like that is disingenuous.

Somalia was a humanitarian mission, the middle east, where most of the worlds oil is, is of great importance to the interests of the United States.

Really very simple, Somalia <> Iraq.
