Why let the truth get in the way of a good story?
By Rep. Marsha Blackburn Posted in Rush Limbaugh | War — Comments (19) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »
Rush Limbaugh's job is to drive discussion in the public arena and he does an excellent job of that. But, one thing he has remained steadfast: His support and respect of our men and women in uniform. This is why I am supporting legislation in Congress that commends Limbaugh for his relentless efforts to build and maintain troop morale.
The vilification of Limbaugh and misrepresentation of his comments regarding his "phony soldiers" comment by the radical left is without merit and false. By reading the transcript of the show, one can see that it is clear that Limbaugh was referring to soldiers opposed to the Iraq war, who concocted fraudulent stories in order to push a left wing political agenda. An ABC World News Tonight story aired on September 24th even chronicled an instance of 23 year-old Jesse Macbeth of Seattle, who claimed to have slaughtered innocent civilians in Iraq, until it was proven that he never even finished basic training. Instead, Macbeth used this lie to become a rallying point for the anti-war liberal left.
Many politicians, seeking an opportunity to humiliate the popular conservative talk show host, took the bait. They got caught. They were quick to condemn Limbaugh for his words, but now that the truth is beginning to surface, how quickly (if at all) will they rescind theirs?
This is the second time in as many weeks that the MoveOn.org crowd has attacked conservatives without checking their facts.
There is a saying in the mainstream, drive-by media: "Why let the truth get in the way of a good story?"
But there is another, more powerful saying that has stood the test of time and is relevant today: "And the truth shall set you free."

The left had enough guts to try and trot out Harkin, who lied about flying missions over Vietnam, to criticize Limbaugh for that comment.
I don't recall if "Cambodian Christmas" John Kerry also criticized Limbaugh, or if the Dems have gagged him since last October.
The Dems and Soroscrats are engaging in a petty game of trying to get revenge for their anti-military attitudes being exposed by such things as the MoveOn ad, and by leftist heros like Jesse MacBeth.
The left wants people to forget how they spit on returning veterans during Vietnam, and how they continue to degrade the good work of our troops.
The Democrats are aiming to destroy talk radio so they can try to silence conservatism.
Perhaps a resolution saluting Limbaugh and condemning MacBeth can be crafted. Just put that in the relevant motion to direct some committee, and everything is in business.
condemning or supporting Rush. With all due respect Congresswoman Blackburn, I do not think the Congress should be taking time, paid for by the taxpayers, to pass meaningless resolutions regarding talk show hosts. While I would agree with the contents of such a resolution in support of Rush, I think it is just as ridiculous for the Republicans to advance such a resolution as it is for the Democrats to beat their drum over his comments.
Editorials, speeches, and other commentary on your own time - sure. But using the House floor for this is just silly.
The one benefit I guess, is that all this slows down the passing of more damaging legislation by this Congress.
This country has suffered enough from NOT smacking down the BS from the dems. I agree the dems never should have brought up Limbaugh(free speech). But when they do we have to respond. Not responding to the crap allows it to grow and gain credibility.
These libnuts have to be confronted face to face and exposed for the political hacks they are.
Congress needs a pay raise so we can attract people with at least half a brain.
Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country can do for you. Washington Elected Elite
The Congress and the Senate need people who cherish the ideas of honesty and integrity, not money... That is our major problem today. Take away the power and money and what do you have... Just your everyday politician.

....and BTW I was outraged at the sandbagging of you on MSNBC, and in the process the disrespecting of the memory of that soldier for the purpose of a political attack. Keep up the good work, Marsha.
“.....women and minorities hardest hit”
I am still angry at the way you were ambushed on MSNBC however I do see a pattern...1st you than O'Reilly and now Rush and I suspect we will see this from Media Matters and the MSM right up until the election of 08.
It is only going to get uglier and the only way to combat it is to do exactly what you are doing and that is getting out and being heard over and over again. These trifling little idiots have no clue that they can never go back that we Americans are looking forward to a truly FREE press.
Freedom of Religion not Freedom from Religion
Rep. Marsha Blackburn
I saw you get ambushed on MSNBC, it was shameless, showed no sympathy for the troops or the families of the fallen warriors. Truly despicable they would do this. You handled it very well with dignity and style, made us proud.
I am sure Rush appreciates your support as he defends himself against an unconscionable calculated lie. Rush is one of the strongest supporters of our troops and people who listen to his show know he would never ever defame any uniformed soldier, regardless the political argument or soldiers political affiliation.
Thanks for stopping by ... You are a great American.
Hickman Co....says Hey!!!
First, as a vet and who's son is now serving in Mosul and a long time Rush listner I know what Rush said and meant because I was listening that day. So I know the truth but what bothers me is there is a pattern to what happen to you, O'Reilly and to Rush. Media Matters was founded by HRC and funded by the George Soros of the world and they have an agenda. It's all leading up to HRC and the Demo's taken the WH and how they can get rid (smear) any opposition now and especially when they take control. You guys were their guinea pigs....if HRC get's elected then the real smear campaign starts in Jan 09. Any and all their "supposely" enemies will be dealt with. It's coming if this woman gets elected.
Here's my real problem. Far too long the GOP has been laying back and taken it. We just smile and we let it pass on since the 2000 Fla ballot count and it continues today. The MoveOn.org's, Media Matter's of the left have NO rules. They have the MSM in their back pocket and to stop this maddness your going to have to start coming out swinging and take no prisoners. You folks on the hill have been gun shy too long, you must confront these folks in the well and do it everytime they do stupid/silly thinks or make wild statements. It's got to stop and stop NOW. To heck with "rules" because remember they have NO rules. Our country is under attack, our way of life is being attack from within. HRC vision of America is not what our brave men and women fought and died for. We must protect what we have, today. Because if we don't...we will surely lose. I'm also concern that some of your fellow "elected" officials don't have the stomach for a fight and I can name one from TN that will never stand up and challenge anyone. So, if you think Rush smearing is bad..stand back because UNLESS you call them (openly on the floor) it ain't going to stop. I can write to you guys all day long and if you don't embrass them..they will continue.
You were "faced" on National TV. Get over it. Pay more attention to your constituents and less to a silly ad in a sily paper or a silly fat talk show mouth on a silly radio.

Not only factual but right... Keep Tennessee in the factual column. I will say that I hate to see the House or Senate waste time regarding personal citizen issues but you do have to respond to nonsense from time to time...

a "perfect narrative," which somehow gave the press and Thomas's Newsweak permission to run with the class-warfare, racial BS. I am going to vote for Fred because gutless wimps/wusses like Romney & other Republican candidates waited and are still unable to stand up like real men. Gotta see which way the wind is blowing, right Mitt? Rush noted this in his broadcast today, and Fred Thompson may be low-key, but he has intestinal fortitude.
Hi Rep. Blackburn,
There's a drug store owner in your distict who wishes you would spend this time on his concerns because he voted for you. You have repaid him by ignoring him. Instead you pursue this worthless childishness.
I'm not ignoring him nor the crop of other concervatives who would like some of your attention.
Rush is a BIG boy, he can take care of himself, if not, he has his own congressman, doesn't he?

It disappoints me greatly to admit that Macbeth is from Seattle, as I live there too. But, coming from Seattle, that is completely typical of the left wing nutjobs up here.
Liberalism is a blind, band wagon jumping social (as in socialist) movement. We need a real push to get back our country.
Courage becomes a living and an attractive virtue when it is regarded not only as a willingness to die manfully, but also as a determination to live decently.
