Record Setting

Several records were broken in this election. The most obvious is that this is the first election where a President has won re-election and the same party has gained seats in the Senate and House in recent memory. But the even greater record that was set today is this one:

Most Votes Ever Received In An American Election: George W. Bush (2004)

With 92% of precincts reporting, the President has 54,975,320 votes surpassing the record set by President Reagan in 1984.

Once again, Congratulations Mr. President.

Update [2004-11-3 3:29:9 by trevino]:

It gets better. Last time a Presidential candidate received over 50% of the popular vote? 16 years ago, when George H.W. Bush waxed Mike Dukakis in 1988. Last time a Republican President was reelected and saw GOP majorities in both houses of Congress strengthened? 104 years ago, when William McKinley was reelected.

Whatever happens in Ohio -- and there's little reason to believe it won't end with a Bush win -- this plus the '02 cycle is a sure sign of a party of total dominance. The party of the people. Ours.
