Thank you, Harriet Miers, for withdrawing your nomination for the good of the country.  I now better understand why the President maintains such admiration and respect for you.  May God continue to bless you.

And now, just let me say before I spontaneously combust, that I am damned disappointed by the insults, smears, personal attacks and smartly innuendo that have been directed not only to Ms. Miers, but toward her supporters as well.  One can disagree with others on any number of issues, however, abstinence from ad hominem argument is what separates those with principled manner from those without.

I am obliged to call the Editors' attention to this, for the shameful behavior of a few prominent RS contributors not only devalues the site, but the Republican Party as well.

The greatest day of the year is nearly upon us.

I also await one of mankind's greatest inventions.

It will be a good month.

the confirmation of ms. miers would have been a tragedy not for the republicans or democrats, but the country as a whole. she was too close to the president, under qualified, and would not have acted independently. that much was obvious from the little information that came out during the pre-confirmation period.

You know by reddstaty

the prequels would have been a lot better if Lucas just did general story outline and let someone else write the script (Mamet?) and direct (David Fincher/Peter Jackson, though Jackson was a bit busy).

I really thought the first two were huge disappointments (aside from a scene or two here or there).  III was much better, but not nearly good enough (though it could have been hugely improved with an extra 20 min, and some dialogue changes/cuts).

and only say that you are entitled to your opinion.  Miers was wrong for the court because of her philosophical views of the role of the judiciary.

And on that note, I'm off, and hope to never again comment on this nominee.

I have to agree by Steve Foley

No amount of special effects (as good as they were) can make up for great dialogue. Seems to me he (Lucas) glossed over some great story content opportunities.

Dialog by casualobservervations

Yes, the dialog was a bit lacking.  But that is what I loved best out of episode III, there wasn't alot of dialog.  I thought they did go a bit far with Yoda's confrontation with the emporer.  You just can't give Yoda complex sentences.

But hey, Although the prequels have suffered from some bad dialog, the cinematography is brilliant.  And the overall story and themes really capture the imagination.  And the back story they provide just adds to the value of the originals.

Rush mentioned this on his program today and gave credit to an Andrew McCarthy story on "NRO" I couldn't find the article! Did you happen to read it?

According to the NYT Rove will not be indicted on Friday but will remain under investigation. Libby is not as fortunate.

WP had Libby shopping for a new lawyer.

I can't see why the grand jury's term would be extended or a new one enpaneled to continue a perjury investigation of Rove.

If the case is not wrapped up, does that suggest a bigger fish? Or maybe a completely new direction.

Here is a link to Fitzgerald's bio.

It looks like he's prosecuted a lot of terrorism cases.

I agree. If true there must be some evidence on Rove but not enough yet to satisfy an indictment.

So you're saying that by neodanite

William Rehnquist, Hugo Black, William O. Douglas, John Jay, and John Marshall were also "unqualified"?

No, I'm sure you're just limiting your definition of "unqualified" to women who don't have appellate court experience.

Make that conservative women who don't have appellate court experience.

XBox freaks by mikewas

You know, since this is an open thread...

anyone else who's an XBox fan, particularly Halo 2?  I know Krempasky was one, before he got himself a real job.  Maybe we could get a gang together for some online gaming.

to mention harriet miers in the company of the above list is to disqualify yourself from competent analysis.
