Barely a week after the alarm was first raised about the possibility of FEC regulation of the internet - I'm proud to announce the formation of the The Online Coalition - a truly bi-partisan group of bloggers, journalists, and online professionals unified in their opposition to the regulation of personal political activity on the web.
Our first project, an open letter to FEC Chairman Scott Thomas, will be delivered to the Chairman today. But this is an Online Coalition - and as such, we invite ALL interested parties to join the letter at onlinecoalition.com.
If you have any doubts about the truly broad nature of the coalition supporting this effort, go to the website and read the list of original signatories. You'll find Bushies and Deaniacs both - and yes, both I and Kos have signed. Many thanks to Michael Bassik as well as the good folks at EchoDitto, who graciously donated much of their time to get this site up so quickly.

I just signed the petition as the #45 signature. We have hundreds to thousands of readers here each day, lets start putting our names on the parchment to oppose regulating internet political activity.
Just signed the petition and I hope thousands more will follow. Way to take the bull by the horns on this one. You guys have seized the initiative. I think I speak on behalf of all bloggers when I say, "Kick ass and take names!"

came in at #123. Get your spot now. And check out the list, it's a veritable who's who of the blogosphere.
And unsurprisingly, Glenn gives onlinecoalition.com an Insta-launch.
This is a fantastic effort, and I'm looking forward to working with Republicans on this.
Glad to join Red-Staters on some issue, anyway!

...and best of luck! Heh, one of my favorite aspects of this site is the launching of side projects, and successful ones at that.
