Jeff Gannon? Meet "Journalist" Victoria Jones

Remember this incident from a recent White House daily press conference, where Scott McClellan got grilled by a conference attendee (not I did NOT say "reporter") thusly:

Quotas in press conferences?

Now reporters are crying that Bush did not call on enough women reporters at his press conference. From yesterday's White House Press Briefing:

Q Scott, at the press conference yesterday, approximately 25 percent of the journalists were women, and the President took only one question from a woman reporter. Can you explain this pattern?

McCLELLAN: That might be a reflection on the media. That's not -- I don't think that's a reflection on who the President calls on.

Q Their hands were up, the female hands --

McCLELLAN: You pointed out that there is a smaller percentage of women at the event. I think that's a question you may want to address to the media, if it's a question of diversity in the media.

Q If 25 percent of the journalists are women, I would think more than 2 percent of questions -- or, in fact, it was one question -- would perhaps be directed to the women.

McCLELLAN: The President looks forward to taking questions from a wide variety of people, and I don't think that's a reflection on the President. I think that's a reflection on maybe the media and the diversity within the media. So I think that's a question you ought to direct to the media, not us.

Q Can you assure us that he will take note next time to count --

McCLELLAN: He was pleased to call on women journalists yesterday --

Q He called on one. (Laughter.)

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, like I said, there are a number of major media organizations that were represented there. The President believes it's important to get to those major media outlets and start the news conference that way. And if it's a question of diversity within those organizations, I think it's a question to direct to those organizations, not us.

Will it ever end...how far they go to disparage Bush?

No Ed, it won't end any time soon.  Especially if this particular "reporter" continues to attend Scott McClellan's briefings.

Meet Victoria Jones.

Victoria Jones has been the host of the The Victoria Jones Show for the past 15 years. Her radio show has grown in influence and popularity and she is one of the few media commentators able to demonstrate her versatility on both radio and TV. One of the most respected broadcasters in the industry, she has carved out a unique niche - a provocative mix of the hottest news topics, personality, opinion, entertainment and intrigue.

...

Her provocative and highly outspoken style, combined with razor wit and nimble versatility, have garnered her industry awards, including the Associated Press Award for Best Radio Talk Show.

Sound like an objective journalist to you?  Didn't think so, and it shouldn't.  Miss Vicki Jones is a liberal bombthrower, a lefty version of Michael Savage.  I remember her on DC's WMAL AM radio station, when she broadcast in the early evenings, haughtily disparaging all things Republican and conservative.

When Hugh Hewitt played this interview clip on his radio show recently, I instantly recognized Jones' British accent, and her elitist and condescending attitude.

Remember the media outrage when Jeff Gannon appeared at the White House press briefings?  I'd like to hear them justify how Victoria Jones is any more an objective, professional journalist than Gannon/Guckert/Whoever ever was.  Having Jones sit in the White House press briefing audience is like having Al Franken there.

I thought attendees at the press conference were supposed to be looking for news, not generating sound bites and publicity for their own self-serving opinion talk shows?

Next time some Maurice-Hinchey-think-alike screams "Jeff Gannon", calmly reply "Miss Vicki--excuse me, MS VICTORIA --Jones."

Apples and Oranges... by LiberalDem

Was Victoria Jones planted by the Democrats? Jeff Gannon, however, was treated especially well by the GOP.  If the GOP is so powerful right now, controlling the three branches of government, why use Jeff Gannon to facilitate the pushing of Bush's agenda? Is it because the Iraq war isn't going so well? Or is it because the economy isn't getting any better?  Victoria Jones - a true American for having the swagger (which other reporters don't have) to dissent.

I agree, that doesn't sound like a real journalist. However, I don't really think Gannon is a good comparison. He was both 'right' and wrong, if you see what I mean. Not exactly a poster-boy.

However, on the plus side, you've drawn the ire of that most totalitarian of the totalitarian lefties, John Aravosis, so that's good. Annoying Aravosis is a worthy pastime for anyone.

Perhaps by comparing liberal bombthrower Miss Vicki Jones to Jeff Gannon, I opened the door for folks to focus their comment on Gannon's personal notoriety, instead of Jones' complete lack of objectivity.

So, let me restate.  If it's OK for Miss Vicki to attend Scott McClellan's press briefings, then is turnabout fair play?  Would the liberals and Dems have been OK with Neal Boortz and Sean Hannity routinely sitting in Clinton Administration, sharpshooting Mike McCurry?

Doubt it.

Having Jones sit in the White House press briefing audience is like having Al Franken there.

Yes, but see, that's true of half of the White House press corps. This is classic Bush. He lets in some obviously partisan hack, makes sure she gets called on, and lets her foam at the mouth right in front of everybody.

"OK folks, that was your basic partisan hack foaming at the mouth. Who else has a question? Helen, how about you?"

Bwaaaa ha ha.

Sean Hannity by absentee

Now you're talking. Let's send Hannity to the next one!

afterall he will happily criticize any and all he disagrees with, and I think it would be very difficult to paint him into the paritisan position-although you could probably argue he isn't a "real" journalist, if we are going to have to get into the whole "what is a journalist" meme again.  You probably should have gone for Rush Limbaugh or maybe Laura Ingrahm.

Hannity I think would draw a huge amount of ire-given that you could easily paint him into the paritisan corner and bomb thrower corner.
