Shadegg for Majority Leader

By Congressman Jeb Hensarling Posted in Comments (18) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

I am pleased to announce my support for John Shadegg to be the next Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives.  He is a strong, effective and principled conservative leader who truly understands the need for renewal and reform.

As the new Majority Leader, John Shadegg will help the Republican Conference retain and strengthen our majority based on the principles that won it: limited government, fiscal discipline, individual freedom, and a strong national defense.

John Shadegg understands that we need reform and a renewed commitment to our conservative principles in order to restore the confidence and support of the American public.

I know and respect each candidate in this race, and I appreciate their willingness to lead our conference at this important time.

This is one of those moments where everyone will be watching.  The GOP has come to a fork in the road.  We can continue to do business as usual in DC with Blunt & Boehner, i.e more deficits, government for sale to highest bidder, open borders, lip service to smaller government, etc or we can vote for someone like John Shadegg who doesn't have the taint of corrupt lobbyists nipping at his heels and is a great leader in the conservative movement.  The choice is pretty clear to me.

...to show our support?

I live in MA.  Not a single R Congressperson to contact...

I contacted my congressmen Tom Price by email yesterday and asked him to support Shadegg.

Thank You Congressman by rightwingscottie

I also contacted my congressman, Tom Tancredo, and urged him to support John Shadegg

It doesnt mean you cant contact every republican in the House.

For example, when Jack Kingston asks RedStaters their opinion he doesn't ask it of people from just his district.

Specifically, maybe you want to talk to those like the Speaker of the House and others in leadership positions, those that have dual roles (not just to their constituency) and may carry more weight.

Find them here: http://www.house.gov/house/orgs_pub_hse_ldr_www.shtml

If you missed it, he was on Rush with Walter Williams a few months back describing his Enumerated Powers Act-- as in each piece of legislation would need to show where Congress gets the power to make it.

EVERYONE call someone. I'll do the same.

I hope you and your colleagues are successful in charting a new course with Rep. Shadegg.  When Republicans are true to their small government ideology, they are naturally the anti-corruption party.  I really hope we do not cede this issue to Democrats by merely playing the, "not too many people were involved" card.  We need to remember the energy and ideology that allowed 1994 to happen.

Thanks Congressman by MartyMcfly

It's always great to see our Representatives taking the time to come here to Red State and post.  Does anyone know if Congressman Kingston is going to post a counter-point about why he endorsed Blunt for Majority Leader?  It would be interesting to hear the other side for those who are still on the fence about this race.

Getting rid of earmarks is crucial.  Also the American's for Better Immigration give him a career A+ on immigration reform.  Representative Shadegg supported the interests of the Federation for American Immigration Reform 93 percent in 2004.

that Shadegg is the only man for the job.  I hope more members of Congress come out in public support as Rep. Hensarling has.

How Many? by TopNotch

Glad this race is shaking up.  How many does Shadegg have?

He's No Blount or Boehner by Scorpion410

So he has my support.

individual liberty by Superduperficial

It's heartening to know that Republicans now take individual liberty to be a strong, conservative principle.

I hope, as a libertarian-leaner, that we can expect Shadegg to support the legalization of gay marriage, then?

25 rebels by LoveThatConstitution

If you go to the "where are the 25 rebels?" thread, it list some undecideds you may want to contact.

spoke to some friends late yesterday at NRO and no one knew anything.  All of the MSM articles today just listed one or two.  what is the deal??  when are folks gonna grow a pair?

let me clarify... by TopNotch

when are members gonna grow a pair and announce their support for him??

(realized that some might not have followed where I was going with that)  :)

Castle by Pazquackman of Delaware

I contacted Mike Castle, arguably the leader of the moderate House Republican wing, to support shadegg, but he is  sicking to boehnor.
