Prepare for "The Eyebrow"

Roll Call reported it first, and the Washington Post now notes that Virginia's newly-elected Governor, Tim Kaine, will deliver the Democratic response to President Bush's State of the Union address:
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi are scheduled to call Kaine Thursday morning to officially ask him to accept. They, along with Gov. Bill Richardson, the chairman of the Democratic Governor's Association, are expected to make the announcement Thursday afternoon, according to two sources, who declined to be identified before the announcement is made.
Kaine spokeswoman Delacey Skinner declined to comment, saying no announcement has been made yet.
America, prepare to be creeped out by "The Eyebrow."
Read on for more...including a photo!
Kaine is the flavor of the month due to his recent victory in the Virginia gubernatorial race. Of course, he achieved victory by saying, largely, that he doesn't agree with Democratic policies (namely on abortion and capital punishment), but that he'd ignore his supposedly deeply-held beliefs and govern like a Democrat.
In other words, no one knows what Kaine stands for, because he doesn't stand for anything. But he's the new Democratic governor in a red state, so the Democrats think he can be an example for them. More power to them.
When you watch Kaine's response, however, be aware that you absolutely will not be able to concentrate on what he is saying. Why? Because of this:

Check out his eyebrow. It has a mind of it's own, moving up and down as if Kaine can't control it. It's the creepiest thing you'll ever see.
And I'm sure that's the only interesting item that will emerge from this Democratic response. But at least it gives us a reason to watch the speech. Otherwise, I can't imagine wasting the time when I'm sure there will be an exciting re-run of the 2001 World Series of Poker airing on ESPN6 at the same time.

I would be carefull about making personal attacks on Tim Kaine's Eyebrow. While Kaine himself seems like something of a lightweight despite his win in VA, The Eyebrow is not one to trifle with. Fear its power.
You know, I wasn't certain how Zuniga was going to possibly manage to maintain his perfect score, what with the Virginia election and all - but thanks to Gilliard, he managed to get that all-important perception of opposition on the record in the very nick of time.
You know, Kaine is a reasonably intelligent guy and I don't think he is as bad as most Democrats; however, he comes off as a geeky policy wonk. Eyebrow aside, not exactly the charasmatic leader you want representing the party. You'd think they would have at least picked Warner.
How is this different than the Democratic attacks (which were off base) on Katherine Harris's appearances?
Kaine should be able to cure his eyebrow problem. Colmes of Hannity and Colmes fame had the same problem when they first got started. If not, he should be prepared to explain why the left side of his face isn't being controlled properly by the right side of his mind.
Mark Warner makes more sense to me, considering he is going to be running for President. Then again, that is probably why he was NOT selected - cannot be seen as upstaging the senators who want to run (Clinton, Kerry, Bayh, etc).
Making fun of Katherine Harris was just as harmless as making fun of Tim Kaine.
But if it makes you feel better, I may bother to actually watch the Democratic response this go-round, just to see if this Eyebrow thing lives up to the hype...
and Katherine Harris is a woman.
Appearance is generally a non-factor for men in politics, but almost always a factor worthy of comment (at least to the media) for women in politics.
Besides this is mild compared to the attacks on appearance suffered by Katherine Harris, Hillary Clinton, and Condi Rice. It's also mild compared to the attacks on appearance suffered by any woman involved with a politician (ie Monica, Kathleen Willey, and Paula Jones).
And even you must admit, the picture is funny.
that was being sent around. Do we now expect politicians to walk around like Tom DeLay getting arraigned just to avoid a bad photo?
I really don't particularly care that much for the locker room in humor, though its not a big deal....in the locker room. If RedState is going to be the face of the GOP grassroots, it'd be nice if RedState acted like it was already there. If this segment of RedState, and its irritating DailyKos companion, start influencing political power over the Democratic process, the very idea of bipartisanship will be dead. And while I agree that bipartisanship is silly for silliness sakes, it will criple the ability of either party to lead even on the 90% of governance that both parties completely agree on.
"bipartisanship is silly if only for its own sake"
Sorry.
Even though "I've never even heard of it."
except that it only happens when I hear something I don't believe. Utterly involuntarily! My students never figured it out, so that was good. My husband did...not so good.
Last governor from Washington. Nice guy and all, pretty smart, but he was not up to the challenge in 2003 in giving the official Dem response. They're rushing Kaine in before he's ready.
I bet he mentions he's a Catholic.
Now there's a real "eyebrow" for you. It seems like every photo taken of him during Watergate showed his one psycho eyebrow halfway up his forehead, but I can't seem to find any of those pics now. Here's one where he just looks really scary:
Even though I'm a die hard Auburn fan and graduate.
+5!!!

Is it catty to say "bring it on?"
