I didn't want to do it.
Until today, Redstate allowed new users the ability to immediately make comments and post diaries on the site.
Effective immediately, there is a five day waiting period before new users can make comments, post diaries, or submit stories. I will consider shortening the waiting time at the beginning of next week.
Thank you for your attention.
Update [2006-3-23 21:49:36 by Clayton]: If you're a new user and would like to have us enable your commenting privileges before the five day waiting period, just leave us a comment in this thread and we'll consider it.

These last three days have been pure h*ll!
Dawn of the dead! Damien! Chuckie! They've all become bloggers! And they've all come here to plague RedState!
without even the fun of being blonde.
I didn't get it until you posted, Leon. Thanks for the help. :)
but just in case. You have to let a few liberal fish thru the net, a strange species, possibly the missing link in anthropology. They do provide us with lab work for close up examination and a reminder of the civilizational crisis we face, plus they're good for laughs or groans depending on your mood.
:::footsteps echoing through the halls:::
Jeebus. Troll corpses everywhere, green gore curdling across the floors, walls and ceilings, and the smell...
(shaking head)
And to think: they could have done something useful with their time and energy, like volunteer for one of their favored candidates' campaigns. Instead, they spent valuable lifespan on...
:::hand waves towards shambles:::
...this.
(I know, that would seem an oxymoron), they are good for spirited debates. But what we've had the last few days are not, and it hasn't been!
...wear your hazmat gear. They're neurotoxic.
Moe Lane is a pseudonym for "Robert Jordan," isn't it?
Are welcome to come through the net. They just need to be able to remember their cause five days from now.
I'm placing a bet that a statistically significant number of troublemakers will forget to come back.
That claim stretches the bounds of plausibility.
I was going to do a story on this, but it's just not worth it:
This is the infamous liberal netroots. They are more coordinated, louder, and active at attacking Ben than mobilizing for an election.
Seriously, think about it. If they had brought all of these resources to bear on their ground game for candidates, it would have made a difference in '04 and '05. I'm not saying a massive difference, but some races might have been tighter.
Instead, the real passion is not for elections, or causes. It's for tearing people down. Making yourself look good by attempting to make others look small.
So, in the end, Markos and Jerome can talk Netroots all they want. But in practice this is what they get.
The closest that I've come to it is when my wife played in one campaign when the RPG came out: she'd tell me stuff about the setting in order that I'd understand her gaming stories.
I'd have never predicted that about you.
It's weird to even talk about predicting non-events, but there I've gone and done it.
I didn't either get it till Leon explained.:(
I can just imagine all the newbies attempting to post on this thread, and when that doesn't work, looking for another thread to complain about this one!
I didn't manage to make it through his third book before law school made me hate reading, so it's certainly no offense to me, but that was a piece of Robert Jordan prose if I've ever read any.
And the end of The Dragon Reborn is arguably the best fiction writing in the English language, ever. I must have read that book thirty times the first six weeks I owned it. I used to be able to recite the last chapter by rote.
Clayton, you are my hero for today!!!
I bow to your presence.
WaPo.com is about to drop Ben Domenech because he's a serial plagiarist (and not becuase the MSM has again given in to the hysterica left)...better lock this thing down. Makes it easier to catapult the propaganda. Heh heh.
i would just like to say i voted for republicans all my life (reagan twice) but this last press conference by the president sent me over the edge, as of today i am switching to the democrats. the corporate media is so wingnut, they follow whatever the president says, the won't call him on anything. this country is falling into fascism and no one is standing up for the people's writes. this post is a jackbooted nazi tactic to cut off my first amendment wrights.
nrrrrrrgggggghhhhh...... halliburton, diebold, chimpy mcbushitler knew about 9/11, impeachment, cheney is the devil, fisa...FIIIIIISSSAAAAA...
Update [2006-3-23 22:19:03 by ConservativeD]:oh and I was born in 1973 (Now everyone is wondering how I have update privileges)

Why do studies show that conservatives are happier and more upbeat than liberals?
Why do liberals always seem angry?
It's in their whole philosophy. They HATE competence. You can't do it by yourself, only the government can do it for you.
to vote for Reagan at the age of 7!
Boy, you really had me fooled!
I was a mature 6 though (birthday is after election day)
:)
You must be on the contact form mailing list. We get this email about 50 times per day.
The level of power the government has would be commensurate with our expectations for its performance.
Dang, I'm gonna miss those.
molesters? I heard that SC may be moving to pass such a law? I may do a column on that. You know my legal career was jump started by some high profile inncocent defendants and I would hope the law requires aggrevated circumstances and physical evidence for such an extreme penalty.
How bout them Cocks
even if it is NIT
baseball is great as usual
Michigan would NEVER win 20 games in a season. UM in the finals!
I get to refer to the same Star Trek episode (TOS: Mirror, Mirror) twice in the same day, only this time it's the flip side of the analogy (a rational person impersonating a lunatic).
Tonight: Gamecocks 65, Bearcats, 62. Wonder how much the last minute Cincinnati suspensions impacted that game.
to be on the Moveon(dearLordwilltheypleaseactuallymoveon) list because I wanted to be in the loop of what the other side was thinking/planning. That lasted about a day. These people haven't changed their tactics since Nov 2000, I don't need to get the mailing list, I leave that self-torture to someone else. :)
or at least the lack thereof. Take the most outlandish, crazy thing you can think of, mix in some poor punctuation (that comes naturally to me) and a few spelling mistakes, and you two can hav ur own Talking-Point O'Matic™.
OK, love the fight song and really liked that Fab Five team with Webber back in the day. Maybe we can beat Louisville and you all can beat Old Dominion and the wolverines and cocks can have at it.
I'm actually a CMU Chippewa, but I work in Ann Arbor, and my dad was born in a house a stones throw from "The Big House" (UM Stadium--not penitentiary)
It's genetic, what can I say!
Hope we can duke it out in the finals!
So they sent the trolls after you probably or just something silly. Haven't checked the Red America page, have to do that now.
and Auburn Hills as New Fallujah and Rush's joke that we might have to cut and run from there!!!
sorry!
Testing 1,2,3
Test, test
Thwup, thwup, thwup.
Is this thing on?
"They just need to be able to remember their cause five days from now."
Not fair to the short term memory-impaired, maaan.
I support that concept in certain cases of molestation and in all cases of the manufacturing and distribution of child pornography. The preferred method of execution... well, we would have to see if the GRU would be willing to make a deal for their blast furnace and conveyor belt...
Particularly given one of the victims of the latest big child pornography ring they broke up.
when I read the update. Hilarious.
It really is a shame that the occasional waves of attention seekers can disrupt RS's discourse.
George R.R. Martin? Jordan used to be my favorite, until I started reading Martin. I've also picked up on Gene Wolfe recently too.
is better, his dialogue and characters are more appealing. Jordan has created an interesting fictional world, but his plot has deteriorated from its promising beginnings.
I do enjoy Jordan's character study of a man who has been told the entire fate of the world depends on him. What must that do to a person.
But Rand al'Thor, Perrin Aybarra, and Matrim Cauthon will always be dear to my heart, even if Jordan has made a hash of the last five or six books.
Fires of Heaven was the last great one. Admittedly, I haven't read the most recent.
I love Rand's journey towards his own end. And Mat Cauthon is probably my favorite fantasy character (dumb carnival side-plot aside).
all the work you Editors put into keeping this site's quality so high. Rabid extremism in the blogging world can be very trying to deal with.
Of the GREAT J.R.R.T. will see you flayed alive for your heresy!!!!
'...the best fiction writing in the English language, ever.'
Did I miss?!
My wing is getting ready for a huge inspection next week, so I've been busier than a one-legged man in a butt kickin contest.
Who poked the moon bat nest with a stick this time?
the white gold wielder holds that place of honor for me, but Donaldson should have let a good story be. The Second Chronicles only impact on me was to ensure I didn't try a third.
I nearly wept at the end of the First Chronicles.
That part, though -- it just hits ya.
