Rep. Kingston talks Cindy Sheehan with Jack Murtha

From this morning's CongressDailyAM, via Representative Jack Kingston's (R-Georgia) site, comes this intriguing bit about a closed-door conversation between Kingston, Jack Murtha, and another liberal Dem concerning yesterday's protest beatnik, Cindy Sheehan:

A closed hearing of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee turned contentious Thursday as Rep. Jack Kingston, R-Ga., Subcommittee ranking member Jack Murtha, D-Pa., and others sparred over the meaning of anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, heroes and military service.

According to one Democratic source present at the hearing, Kingston commented that Sheehan was "a nutcase" and lamented that too many of the human interest stories coming out of the war in Iraq center on anti-war activists like Sheehan and filmmaker Michael Moore and do not give proper service to heroic tales of U.S. soldiers.

"Who would argue that Cindy Sheehan's son is not a hero? I mean, come on," he said, chalking the exchange up to election-year politics.

"I think she is a very flaky woman," Kingston told CongressDaily. "I think we need more heroes. The only people that get press are people like Moore and Sheehan."

That is a weighty metaphysical question: "What is Cindy Sheehan?" In fact, we could modify Heidegger's fundamental question slightly and cut to the supposedly proverbial chase: "Why is there a Cindy Sheehan instead of no Sheehan?"

It's safe to say that the Cindy who has become what Cindy currently is, is the creation of the compendium of leftist or anarchist malcontents who are sometimes called "the likely suspects." That Sheehan herself is a nutcase cannot be seriously questioned, given her bizarre statements and actions for the camera.

Murtha's right! by bobnivik

He just made Kingston's point for him.  No one is talking about Sheehan the Younger and those like him, and that's precicely the problem.  It's his Moonbat Mother that gets all the press, not the real hero of the story.

The Real Question: Why is there no Casey Sheehan?

It's very simple by jsteele

if they start talking about Casey Sheehan in heroic terms then its extremely difficult to not, eventually, have to recognize all of the other men and women of the armed forces for what they do. And the next thing you know you are actually supporting the troops instead of just saying you do.

Its a slippery slope so they just avoid it an lionize the mother, no risk there.

If it's valid to judge people by their friends:

    We have to understand that, what is happening to Lynne Stewart, is connected intimately with what's happening in Iraq. What's happening to Lynne Stewart is intimately connected with what's happening in Palestine. What's happening to Lynne Stewart is intimately connected to what's happening in Philadelphia, to what's happening in Oakland, to the destruction and dismantlement of health care infrastructure for people of color. That when an Iraqi or a Palestinian loses their home, it's no different from what's happening in Philadelphia or in Oakland, when oppressed communities lose their homes or are being kicked out. All of these things are {applause}. Iraq is not the only place under occupation. Palestine is under occupation. San Francisco State is under occupation. {applause} Oakland is under occupation. I do believe in free speech, you know that deeply, and I see that we have our friends here, the College Republicans and the Israeli support community, here who are intimately connected with each other because we know that these are the two most brutal supporters of occupations in the world today. So it's no surprise {applause} that we have College Republicans and Israelis in bed together. What a surprising thing.

    Cindy Sheehan:

    First, I want to give my little story about Lynne. Of course, you all have read To Kill a Mockingbird. Lynne is my human Atticus Finch. He did what he knew was right, but wasn't popular. And that's what Lynne is doing. {applause}

    I'm going all over the country telling moms: "This country is not worth dying for. If we're attacked, we would all go out. We'd all take whatever we had. I'd take my rolling pin and I'd beat the attackers over the head with it. But we were not attacked by Iraq. {applause} We might not even have been attacked by Osama bin Laden if {applause}. 9/11 was their Pearl Harbor to get their neo-con agenda through and, if I would have known that before my son was killed, I would have taken him to Canada. I would never have let him go and try and defend this morally repugnant system we have. The people are good, the system is morally repugnant. {applause}

    What they're saying, too, is like, it's okay for Israel to have nuclear weapons. But Iran or Syria better not get nuclear weapons. It's okay for the United States to have nuclear weapons. It's okay for the countries that we say it's okay for. We are waging a nuclear war in Iraq right now. That country is contaminated. It will be contaminated for practically eternity now. It's okay for them to have them, but Iran or Syria can't have them. It's okay for Israel to occupy Palestine, but it's - yeah - and it's okay for Iraq to occupy - I mean, for the United States to occupy Iraq, but it's not okay for Syria to be in Lebanon. They're a bunch of f***ing hypocrites! And we need to, we just need to rise up. We need a revolution and make it be peaceful and make it be loving and let's just show them all the love we have for humanity because we want to stop the inhumane slaughter. {wild applause}

that I really like is the concept that she  would have taken her 24 year old adult son to Canada where, since he was an adult of apparently sound mind and had volunteered for the Army, presumably she would have kept him restrained and drugged for the rest of her life.

A mother's love knows no bounds; "Son I love you so much that I refuse to let you live your own life, you are going to live mine or else."

one to be admired and thanked for his service to our nation.

     However, Momma Sheehan is a malleble work of crap molded by the likes of Moore, Soros and other like minded Neo-Copperheads

Casey Sheehan by kent miller

and all of our heroic men in women in service throughout the world in defense of our freedoms should clearly be the story.  Our media has made the story about only one of two Cindy Sheehans.

The first Cindy Sheehan, about which little is discussed, was a grieving mother who apparently accepted President Bush's condolences for her loss and expression of gratitude for her son's sacrifice with grace and appreciation.

The second Cindy Sheehan is the one Code Pink and the radical, anti-capitalism, anti-American left created out of what had to be the understandably vulnerable first Cindy Sheehan.

My reaction to the second Cindy Sheehan is one of contempt because the ideals she expresses are antithetical to everything I believe in and everything I believe Casey died trying to defend.

I try very hard to remember this distinction and remember that the first Cindy Sheehan was Casey's mom.  Dwelling on the second Cindy Sheehan does little to honor Casey.
