MEMBER DIARY

What I like about RS 3.0

Let's do some positive thinking!

And no, this is not a total suckup diary! Of course, there are things that I don’t like so much. But these have received a fair amount of attention, so my own 2 cents would be redundant.

The “My profile” page is the best! It displays all your comments, and allows one to quickly respond to comments on one’s own comments without trying to remember where you posted comments. I always was afraid of seeming rude where a comment that needed an answer went unanswered.

Diary entry is much easier with all the gadgets that automate fonts, imaging, etc. This is a real help and it works great.

The tracker is up and looks good. It is much more efficient to see just a list of titles and the number of generated comments than paging through pages and pages of diaries with space-filling text.

The user diary list of recent diaries seems longer, which I think is a good thing, but that may just be an impression.

So I think 3.0 is a keeper. Just make the recommended section more “current”- i.e no diary should stay recommended for more than a few days, and we’ll be doing fine.

I am clueless about how to embed videos and such things. I can’t even make a link, normally. Thanks to this new setup, I can. I just recently created an account here, but I read most posts for a good while before I even realized I could make comments myself. The new 3.0 setup actually emboldened me enough to create my first couple of diaries. I usually restrict myself to snarky comments, but I love reading this site. The new system is great and I just wanted to say thanks to all who put in so much work on this.

      if you’re pulling a kowalski.

This will give Alex his due and restore, partially at least, one of the fun features of the original plan for 3.0.

an interactive halo surrounding every pro-McCain post just like the MSM does for Obama.

        Neil, we’ll have this….?

        • Neil_Stevens

Here’s how it works. When you’re looking at a McCain post, squint just so, and shine a flashlight into your face so the light catches your eyelashes, creating a fuzzy glow.

I use Budweiser. Works for me.

We certainly have improvements to keep making, but we did not want to further delay the roll out.

People forget that it took us over a month to get up recommended diaries in RS 2.0. Likewise, we never did get back the ability to see total comments for each reader diary on the front page.

We’ll get the “new” back as fast as possible and we’re mindful of the other fixes. Most of them happen to be back end issues and are not visible to readers and users.

I think we were told you could change your name back and remove the underline. Have you tried?

      • Doc_Holliday

I missed that memo, I will try it.

It should help us become much more involved in grass roots activism. Something that Erick is extremely aware of given his speech at RightOnline yesterday.

it takes you to the tracker:

    http://www.redstate.com/tracker/

  • bs

…that “tracker” is only a shadow of its predecessor. The ability to actually track a discussion disappeared due to the flawed caching of RS 3 and the resulting lack of tracking of new postings. Neil described the problem yesterday.

All the new “Recent Posts” page is is a list of threads sorted by when new posts were received. It doesn’t provide a customized listing of which posts are new since I’ve visited…a feature which was present in RS 2.

    a little

    very little

what I like about redstate 3.0 is that its on line

    hahaha

  • streetwise

They have moved just about EVERYTHING around, and changed some of the way things work.

But when we get used to it, it will be the standard.

My wife has Offus 07, and I detest it. But…I recently switched to a MacBook Pro, and the Offus (2008) that runs there is even more convoluted than the Windows version. Having used it now for a couple of months, I’m used to it and am resigned to the back-assward way of doing things.

  • Doc_Holliday

and compared to my feelings that is adoration. I have voted with my feet but not posting/reading it as much. Heck, to some that might be a 3.0 plus :)

I am kind of just taking a break really, reading a really interesting/weird book called “Blood Meridian”.

I am sure my political juices will flow again and I will take the time to figure this site out. I hate to say it, but we really needed was a knock off of Daily Kos, cough, gag reflex!

I mean, I know the mods would never cede banning control etc, but they do have a lot of nice features. If it is true I can find all my comments in one place here, that is a major improvement.

  • Doc_Holliday

just say the list of comments under my profile, that is sweet! And if we stopped the threads that become so thin they invert, and the titles that shield screen names, then we are Golden.

one last jibe, DocHolliday does not sound as cool as Doc Holliday. I am hating on the underline. Hey, if my RS 2.0 name were _ _, would that mean my RS 3.0 name would be __?

  • Doc_Holliday

and it seems there are fewer responses to comments, are their fewer users? That would not be a good sign. Ok, no more bitching, I will just watch from time to time and hopefully we will be up for this critical election.
