Bill Richardson Says Russia Should Condemn Itself

and other misadventures of an amateur shill

Transcript via The Hotline

Richardson: “My view is that the United States — if we had a stronger relationship with Russia, we could exercise strong diplomacy to stop this effort against Georgia. We should immediately go to the United Nations Security Council, condemn Russia’s action, and then get the Security Council to pass a strong resolution getting the Russians to show some restraint [emphasis mine], and possibly at the same time generate some U.N. peacekeeping troops.

The problem, though, is that we don’t have the kind of influence and strength in our relationship with Russia to persuade them. This has been one of the failures of the Bush administration, failing to build a strong relationship, a mutually beneficial relationship with Russia, so we’d have the kind of influence to persuade them to stop some of these very, very dangerous efforts within their territory” (“This Week,” ABC, 8/10).

Two points on this. Russia is a member of the UN Security Council so even if we were their best friends the odds of that relationship being parlayed into a rousing self-condemnation are fairly remote.

The second point. We know Russia’s stance on this from a meeting which was held on August 10, in which our UN Ambassador Khalizad reveals that Russia has demanded that Georgian President Saakashvili must resign to end the fighting.

What are we to make of this startling departure from reality? If Barack Obama is elected we’d better get used to this sort of Orwellian nonsense.

Nonsense is right. This guy is a joke, the fact that he is considered an effective diplomat, yet is almost single handily responsible (along with Clinton and Albright) for North Korea getting a nuclear weapon should tell us that.

Yet somehow is remains relevant. I don’t get it.

He sees the UN and “diplomacy” as the answer to everything, so the invasion is in effect Bush’s fault. Did you notice that he seemed to classify placing of defensive missiles in western Europe as being “aggressive” toward Russia? And he twice called McCain a “celebrity”. Yeah that’ll fly with the average voter.
Oh man – did Tapper completely undress him on energy or what? Cha-ching! Can’t Obama pick him as VP? Please??

And I thank you Streiff for that phrase. I always chuckle when using it.

He should instead provide inputs to the “failing foreign policy” [as he alleged] of the Bush Administration, instead of blaming everything to the President.

On a second thought, I feel safer knowing that the Spanish-speaking King Richard stays out of foreign diplomacy…he will do more damage than good, if ever.

Of course for Democrats, quality diplomacy means that you have to “just keep talking, just keep talking…” How lame.

I think John Wayne said that you get more with a kind word and a gun than just a kind word. That’s diplomacy.

Did the Governor of New Mexicao just give South Ossetia to Russia?

still has standing really needs to be ignored! Thankfully, Richardson is too clueless to understand what he is saying anyway so he will probably be Obama’s VP selection… Thanks be to those in charge.. Waiting for America to wake up and listen to the drums…
