We Should Have Known

[Wade Rowland] Sanders was chosen by fellow Swift boat veteran John Kerry to introduce him at the 2004 Democratic Convention, when the senator accepted the presidential nomination.

He briefly entered the 2000 congressional race in a San Diego district, but withdrew citing lack of funding. He ran as a Democrat.

Sanders served as the senior adviser to California Lt. Gov. John Garamendi for Veterans and Military Affairs until the time of his arrest, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. He was also in the Clinton administration as a deputy assistant secretary of the Navy.

What was he arrested for? Funny you should ask.

the attribution to the Kerry campaign is well into the story.
Had this been some Republican ‘associate’, we’d be hearing any and all connections to anyone remotely successful and a Republican.

the opening sentence of the opening paragraph starts with

‘A lawyer who served in the Clinton administration…’

and then it went into the story and then the final 6 paragraphs are about his other democratic political associations. 7 of the 14 paragraphs in the story touch on political associations and 7 are about the crime.

do you think it should have started with multiple paragraphs about his associations before getting to the crime???

You can slap around USNJIMRET for his statement I guess. Didn’t realize that was the reason for this post.
I agree with his statements general principle in that if it had been a
Republican the article would have been more like
“Republican S0 and So Busted with child porn. He is known to associate with every other single Republican in the world. He’s their best friend and works and supports them in everything. They’re all just as guilty as he is.”

Now as far as “We should have known!” I don’t know how we should have known. I do know that it won’t do as much damage politically to the left as it would to the right.

that’s how the story would have gone.

And the story is not the lurid details of the crime itself; the story is who is accused of it. A guy working at 7-11 accused of doing the same thing is a local story, not a national one.

Still, I’m surprised they mentioned that he ran for Congress as a Democrat.

I don’t think the most significant bio fact about this person is that he is a lawyer from California. There are lots of those. But being the one person who introduced John Kerry at the 2004 convention? Much more significant.

    “He ran as a Democrat.”

It implies he only ran as a Democrat out of convenience, thereby leading the reader to assume he’s “not really a Democrat”, but maybe even a Republican, or at least an Independent. Never mind the continuous associations with Dem politicians and administrations. That way, there’s no “culture of corruption” label that can be hung on the Democrats.

Why, CNN has added a whole layer of nuance to the game of “name that party”!

but the be respectful or be banned, no profanity rule prevents me from saying anything about Sanders.
