Senate Finance Committee Approves Health Care For Illegals

The Hill reports that the Senate Finance Committee has authorized participation in Obamacare by illegal aliens.

Senate Finance Committee Democrats rejected a proposed a requirement that immigrants prove their identity with photo identification when signing up for federal healthcare programs.

Finance Committee ranking member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said that current law and the healthcare bill under consideration are too lax and leave the door open to illegal immigrants defrauding the government using false or stolen identities to obtain benefits.

Grassley’s amendment was beaten back 10-13 on a party-line vote.

Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) says of Senator Grassley’s amendment, “The way I see the amendment, it’s a solution without a problem.”

This is simply another exercise in the Democrats attempting to not only nationalize the US health care system but use it as a magnet to attract a dedicated Democrat voting bloc, illegal aliens.

The mind boggles at what possible reason could exist to <b>not</b> require the possession of a photo ID to enroll in Obamacare when right now I have to present a photo ID when I visit my HMO.

      since it would have failed 11-12 it seems like she could have gotten permission from her Dem bosses to cast a vote with an eye on next year’s election.

    In our age of pandemics, what are the epidemiological consequences of denying health care to 11 million people (or however many there are) living illegally in America?

    To give a more illustrative example: suppose the guy working on the construction site outside your building has an aggressive case of drug-resistant tuberculosis. He doesn’t seek out health care because he knows he would be denied if it was revealed he was living here illegally. In his worst case, he’d get deported on top of that. Neither of these are my or your concern necessarily, except that he uses the same sidewalk you do and he coughs a lot.

    I haven’t heard anyone talking about this publicly, and that concerns me. Individual health is to some degree reliant upon the health of the herd.

    If I was going to write a diary, I’d probably write it on this topic, but for now, what does the crowd here think? Have you seen any articles/data on this topic?

      Probably not as bad as the consequences of having a porous border, and letting people just walk in without getting screened for disease when they e nter the country.

        Immigration policy and public health. I guess that’s what I was trying to say. To tackle one without the other leaves the problem unsolved, and yet, that’s exactly what we’re doing right now.

          Providing some way for people here illegally to buy into a healthcare plan makes a lot of sense from the public health standpoint. Especially when you think about kids interacting on playgrounds and whatnot. Politically it’s a whole other story.

      by more than one advocate for health care for illegals. Guess we will have to treat it with the same respect as liberals have when it was used to argue for securing our borders.

      It didn’t raise many eyebrows in Greenville, SC when a group of illegals were caught at a local chicken processing plant and found to have a high rate of TB infection.

      I still prefer the route of securing the border, enforcing our laws against hiring of illegal aliens, and removing all of the considerable enticements which have created the problem to begin with ( not the least of which is automatic citizenship for “anchor babies”, delivered for free for any illegal mother who can waddle across the border and into a hospital here.)

    We have Obama’s word that illegals won’t be able to participate…his word! What need do we have of amendments, laws, or proposals that would seek to legally ensure that this sort of thing would not happen. His word has been gold so far, right?

    Short of tar, feathers and a rail that is..

    I heard about Reid’s unapologetic deal cut to allow Nevada to avoid paying fees in the proposed healthcare bill. My first reaction was to curse out loud and crush the peach I had in my hand for breakfast. After having to clean up the remains and reassure my dog this wasn’t the day I went off the deep end, I realized the only way to get rid of those two corrupt idiots was to vote out enough democrats to flip the majorities.

    You will never get them out. Pelosi is the Queen of Hearts from a city that makes Alice in Wonderland slap her head and go “What the heck is that about?”

    Reid, on the other hand, may be on the ropes, which is why he pulled the latest stunt. He wanted to remind the voters of Nevada why they sent such a corrupt politician to D.C. If there were decent voters in Nevada they would be doubly insulted and throw him out like he was shot from a cannon. However, demographics are what they are, and the degrading of the public morals is a grand effort by the left. That said, there is the rest of the country with many elections upcoming that can send those two back to the minority. They’ll be relegated to Sunday talk shows nobody watches and an occasional Larry King growling “What went wrong?” into the microphone.

    Bottom line is the 2008 elections stripped away any of the Democrats? efforts to hide their immorality, their corruption, their arrogance and their greed. As I speak Obama is racing across the Atlantic to Europe in an attempt to get the 2016 Olympics to Chicago. Not because of the honor, but because it is one more opportunity to rob someone of their money. This time it is the world?s.

    Is there any limits to their actions? Sadly, I can’t see any on the horizon. Beck was right, keep a journal. We are living in extraordinary times.

    here is what i see.medicare is used by americans who fought for this country.so they want to take 500 billion away from us and give it to the illegals for health care.i ask you is that fare.the illegals who bring in the drugs and crime.i aways thought that illegal was a bad thing.give the health care to thugs,and take away the some seniors benefits.most of the seniors fought for our freedom.and this government riff raff is pushing for this unreasonable bill.
