Yesterday, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s band of wannabe putschists delivered their sentencing recommendation for Paul Manafort:

Special counsel Robert Mueller has recommended between 19 to 24 years in prison for President Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

A sentence in that range would probably mean that Manafort, 69, would spend the rest of his life behind bars.

“Manafort acted for more than a decade as if he were above the law, and deprived the federal government and various financial institutions of millions of dollars,” prosecutors wrote in a court filing Friday night.

“Manafort chose to do this for no other reason than greed, evidencing his belief that the law does not apply to him,” they wrote.

Prosecutors also recommended Manafort pay a fine of up to $24 million, restitution of $24 million, and forfeiture of $4 million.

Manafort’s sentence will be determined by federal Judge T.S. Ellis. A sentencing date has not been set.

One does not have to deny that Paul Manafort is a sleazy grifter whose removal from any connection with American politics in order to believe that Mueller’s prosecution of Manafort was a petty and vindictive act of a petty and vindictive man leading a team of other more petty and more vindictive prosecutors.

Manafort was convicted of crimes the Justice Department had declined to pursue a decade ago. Manafort was prosecuted for exactly one reason: it was perceived by Mueller and the odious Andrew Weissmann–who was twice repudiated by the Supreme Court and whose stock in trade is simply hurting people because he has the power to do so, presumably, compensating for his deficient manhood and for all the lunch money he paid to the class bullies when he was in school–that Manafort would incriminate President Trump in something in order to save himself.

There is literally no reason for Mueller requesting a sentence of this length for the crimes Manafort was convicted of other than being pissed off at Manafort not cowering in his presence.

Mueller’s investigation is winding down. Now is the time for President Trump to step up and pardon Manafort and any other US citizen who has been convicted by Mueller team. Mueller has had his fun disrupting the US government for two years. He’s collected his scalps. He can go back to retirement and return to pulling the wings off flies. Now is the time for President Trump to publicly declare this investigation to have been a travesty and to, as much as possible, see that justice is done.
