When Sarah Palin mentioned self-responsiblility during her debate, Frank Lunz’s (sp?) whatchyamacallit devices (record-o-meters?)moved to the highest levels of approval not matched at any other time during the debate.
Senator McCain has tried to appeal to the hard working Americans by complementing us, acknowledging our work ethic. So far, he has not connected. I believe he needs to look America in the eye tonight and ask all Americans if they want hand outs, if they resent the upper class, as Obama wants us to, if they want to bring the upper class down or if they want to move up in class. Most Americans do not resent the rich, they only want to be rich too. Most Americans are “too proud to beg” (a great song) and want to be successful on their own – without handouts. He needs to tell Americans, like he told the Republican party, to “fight with me” that I think you can pick yourself up and do it on your own, with the government in your corner and behind you, but not in front of you telling you that you must follow.
Appeal to Americans As Americans
Dear Senator McCain
Dear Senator McCain:
We know that the MSM will not ask Senator Obama any meaningful, substantive questions. You sir, respectfully, must therefore use tomorrow night’s debate to ask Mr. Obama the questions. As is good debate practice, you msut pre-empt his answers by anticipating what Mr. Obama might say, and by stating why such an answer is not acceptable.
The American people are fed up with government in general. Indeed, the financial crisis (which is not an economic crisis) has put most of us over the proverbial top. We know that Mr. Obama wants government to play an even more intrusive role in our lives. Mr. Obama’s plan for an overreaching govennment must be exposed.
You should turn the debate into a debate, not a glorified press conference. Take Mr. Obama off of his prepared script.
Questions should be addressed directly to Mr. Obama. You should tell him that the American people have not been afforded the opportunity to hear directly, in laymen’s terms, exactly what his plans are for our country.
Question One: Do you beleive that the approximately forty five percent of Americans who do not pay any income taxes should recieve direct payments from the government as called for in your plan? If so, how can you call this a tax cut? Isn’t it a handout and a “share the wealth” program where you are taking from hard working Americans and giving to those who in many cases are not working and in many cases are choosing not to work? Do you really believe that the low wage earners in America want your handout?
Americans are proud people. Americans don’t want handouts. Americans don’t resent the upper class. Most Americans respect the upper class and admire their achievements and want to be in the upper class. That’s the American way. Does anyone begrudge Bill Gates? No. He made it on his own. That’s what America is about. Americans do regret being held back, being told that their rise to the top is being held back by those who want to live off of others blood sweat and tears. You speak of economic injustice and that you are going to cure economic injustice. You have not told us what your defintition of economic injustice is, and your plan to solve the problem. And please don’t talk about jobs. Unemployement has remained at historic lows over the last ten years. Opportunity is knocking for all Americans. Americans need to open the door and walk through, without government interference, without government social programming. Look what the Fannie and Freddie social programming resulted in. Please Mr. Obama, don’t tell me that we need more government intervention.
Stealing Lawn Signs
Saw my McCain-Palin lawn sign get stolen last night. Thieves didn’t know that I live on a circle. Waited for them to complete the loop (took them longer than usual because they stopped to lift more signs). Got their plate number, called the local police and the thieves were apprehended. A short time later one of the culprits, an 18 year old, returned my sign and apologized for taking the sign. He said they didn’t mean anything by it, were just out having fun. I asked him why he didn’t take my two neighbors’ Obama signs and he said because of “Sally Palin, uh Sarah Palin” After he acknowledged that he knew very little about Governor Palin he asked for forgiveness. I told him he was asking the wrong guy based on the latest Acorn information and that elections were not something to mess with. I told the police to press charges for theft and for trespass.
Question for Red State readers: Should I pursue it?
Our Own Grass Roots
Let’s face it, we are getting out maneuvered by the left. To follow up on Martin Knight’s idea, I beleive that we, the people, need to write letters to the editors of our local newspapers. I know this seems obvious, but the campaign, or one of our Red State leaders, should compose a few very simple letters and post those letter with instructions to send them to our local editor. Our simple job will be to forward the letters to those newspapers under our signatures. “Local” means our weekly municipal paper that most everyone reads. Each letter should be simple and should contain only one point. The letters should be aimed, not at those like us who spend a large portion of the day on the [catastrophic]consequences to our country of an Obama win, but to those who get their news from the MSM. We need to relay our own talking points so that the point is conveyed simply and concisely. An example:
Editor:
Willaim Ayers is a known terrorist who tried to blow up the Capitol and the Pentagon. This is undisputed. Barack Obama’s political career was launched in Chicago. William Ayers hosted one of the early get to know Obama “coffees” in Ayers’ house. I cannot think of any reason why Obama ever would have wanted to go to Ayers’ house but it doesn’t matter to me. I cannot vote for someone for President of the United States of America who would go to a terrorist’s home to enjoy that person’s hospitality. #####
