Marco Rubio speaking at the Reagan Library OH HECK YEAH

In case you missed the live webcast Tuesday evening, here’s the video from Marco Rubio’s incredibly inspiring speech at the Reagan Library:

Lots of red meat for conservatives in that speech, but here are two of my favorite quotes:

Conservatism is not about leaving people behind. Conservatism is about allowing people to catch up.

Our rights don’t come from our government. Our rights come from our God. Rights come from God.

After the speech, Rubio took several minutes to answer questions that had been submitted by audience members. As expected, several people asked about a potential role for Rubio in the upcoming 2012 elections. Rubio demurred, saying that he wanted to make a difference in the Senate.

I know a lot of people are in a frenzy about this issue, but here’s the reality check: Marco Rubio is an awesome Senator. He would also be an awesome VP candidate. We really can’t lose here.

Rubio also got a question about the tea party, and his response was followed with enthusiastic applause:

Question: If you could give the tea party one idea or topic for them to focus on, what would it be?

Rubio: I think they are focused on it, and that’s the proper role of government in America.

Being a Floridian really is awesome. We have sunshine, no state income tax, and MARCO RUBIO.

As I was composing a comment for this thread I realized it was actually an entire diary entry. I published it last night.

Thanks for bringing Marco to us again; thanks for the inspiration.

    Sarah,
I agree on all four of your points. I heard Marco live in Miramar Beach, FL early on in his campaign, and just when you thought you heard the best speech, Marco did it one better this time. He embodies all that America should stand for. We need to be a free, prosperous free-enterprise society that also finds a way to care for their own less fortunate. The government is the answer to NEITHER. Fostering individual opportunity, and getting the government and its regulations the heck out of the way is a start. I supported Marco through his senatorial campaign, and can’t wait until he emerges onto the national stage. My first presidential vote was for Reagan in the landslide of 1984 (I voted in Maryland, and for one, my GOP vote actually mattered)
Marco, you just absolutely nailed it! Great speech in honor of a great man!

for a candidate for national office to be articulating this.

Do yousee that, Senator Rubio, if you’re so called upon?

I hope the eventual GOP nominee doesn’t put gladhanding an opposite region of the country over a message like this.

I think he can really make a big impact nationally, and we can move a LOT of Hispanics to the GOP with elevating him quickly. If Rick Perry comes asking, I think Marco would have to say yes. 8 years as Veep, followed by 8 as President!

I heard about this speech on the conservative talk shows and people were saying how great it was. They were right.

This guy is awesome. He is a great Senator and will be a great future VP, then President.

    currently living, at least.

He even almost got me to accept the need for certain entitlements, which is not easy. And only almost, not all the way just yet, but he could talk me into supporting some entitlements.

Perhaps it is the influence from his immigrant/refugee grandfather, but Rubio really does see just how great and unique and special America is as a nation. I feel the same way about Nikki Haley. There is something to be said for appreciating what we have here, knowing what others have elsewhere….

I don’t want Rubio in the race in 2012, but he absolutely should be the keynote to the National Convention in 2012 when all of the media attention will be focused there. I hope he finishes out his Senate term, takes over as Governor of FL, then readies himself for the Presidency.

By 2020, Rubio should be ready.

As great as it would be for Senator Rubio to be fighting in that role for six years, he absolutely needs to be VP. This guy has arrived on the scene at just the right moment and would be a serious asset to the country in a national leadership position.
