Marco Rubio on O’Reilly Factor

Here’s a link to Senator Marco Rubio’s appearance on The O’Reilly Factor from last night:

FoxNews | O’Reilly Factor | Marco Rubio in No Spin Zone

Rubio discusses the controversy surrounding the Washington Post article about his family’s history (see my earlier posts here and here):

It’s irrelevant to whether they’re exiles or not. The day that I was born, in May 1971, my parents could not return to the nation of their birth, unless they were willing to live under communism…They won’t find a single, credible Cuban-American voice in Miami that will dispute that my parents are exiles.

Rubio and O’Reilly also chat about the situation in Libya and and the current GOP presidential race. Rubio has stated he is not going to interfere in the primary at this point, but he did have some positive things to say about Herman Cain:

Rubio: I’m in favor of a flat tax. I’ve always believed in simplifying the tax code and I think there are some plans out there to do that. But I’m encouraged that Herman Cain is offering his plan -

O’Reilly: It doesn’t hurt to start there.

Rubio: Well, more importantly, it’s now forcing other candidates to offer theirs, and that’s a good thing. If we’re going to have a debate in the Republican primary on ideas, you know, we’re going to win this election in 2012…and that’s what these candidates are allowing to have happen, engaging in an ideas-driven debate.

Exactly. Were any of the presidential candidates discussing throwing out the entire tax code and starting from scratch until Cain’s 9-9-9 plan began making headlines? NOPE.

And note that Rubio rules out running for Vice President, once again, in very specific and pointed language…so may I respectfully suggest that my friends who are supporting Romney because you “believe” he will pick Rubio as a running mate start considering other candidates? If you legitimately feel that Romney is the most conservative and best candidate, fine, but if you’re motivated by the Rubio factor, I’m just saying you might want to start looking around a little bit…

P.S. I’ve had trouble getting Fox News videos to embed at RedState, but it works fine on my blog. If anyone has any hints about what I’m doing wrong, I’d appreciate it. Thanks. :)

This current slate is really a mixed bag. I could see several ballots at the convention, and then having someone going to Rubio and saying “You are someone we can get enough folks to vote for. Are you willing to be the next POTUS?”

Why settle for VP when you could be POTUS? Seriously, if anyone would vote for Romney, they would already be supporting him. Thus he stays at 20-25% in every poll. The other 75-80% move among the other candidates. And Perry could get 30%. Bachmann gets hers, and Cain pull in another 20-25%. If no one budges, you need a consensus candidate. and enter my Senator, Marco Rubio.

Rubios’ “The Natural.” Smooth, efforthless, so very comfortable in his own skin, armed with a brilliant and quick mind, and rock solid in his core beliefs.

One point, SSS..one never actually “runs” for VP..he sid exactly what he needed to say, becuase if he even said last night that “if the nominee came to him” that he’d ahve to give it serious consideration, then EVERYTHING he says or does from that point on will be viewed and assesed in the context of the primary battle. So he played it correc, and smartly so.

Until he utters a “Sherman” he’s definitely in the mix.

This is a match that would be hard to beat. Ideology the same. It would be a winner for me

You’re right about not really “running” for VP. Forgive me – cutting and pasting from a blog post I originally wrote somewhat late at night.

I’m a big Rubio fan, and have been from the very beginning of the race. If he gets invited to be someone’s running mate, and he accepts, he’ll have my 100% support…

…but I also LOVE what he’s doing in the Senate and I am just fine with him staying there too!
