MEMBER DIARY

Wisconsin Democrat Fleebaggers violate Senate Rule 23

Yes, Rule 23:

Senate Rule 23
Senate Rule 23. Committee not to be absent. Members of a committee, except a conference committee, may not be absent by reason of their appointment during the sitting of the senate, without special leave.
[am. 2001 S.Res. 2] emphasis mine

I’m a literal type of gal, and “may not” means you absolutely, positively cannot be absent–without taking special leave (maybe they could get a doctor’s note).  Here are the past and future committee schedules for February and March 2011.

Will tone-deaf, taxpayer-betraying Democrats Tim Carpenter, Spencer Coggs, Tomothy Cullen, Jon Erpenbach, Dave Hansen, Jim Holperin, Robert Jauch, Chris Larson, Julie Lassa, Mark Miller, Fred Risser, Lena Taylor, Kathleen Vinehout, and Robert Wirch abide by the Senate rules that they adopted in January 2011.  Or will they continue to hold their positions in contempt and be cowards?

Will the Wisconsin Republicans hold the Democrat fleebaggers to the Wisconsin Constitution and flex their majority authority…kinda like the Democrats in the US House did with Rep. Joe Wilson?

These fleebagging Democrats not only took an oath to uphold the Wisconsin Constitution, but also the United States Constitution and could, if they really had serious moxie, enforce what is stated in both Constitutions:

Article IV, §7 (of WI document)
Organization of legislature; quorum; compulsory attendance. Section 7. Each house shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members; and a majority of each shall constitute a quorum to do business, but a smaller number may adjourn from day to day, and may compel the attendance of absent members in such manner and under such penalties as each house may provide. (emphasis mine)

It would be a great day for Wisconsin taxpayers if that “may compel” became a “did compel,” because as I have stated before “working families” is code for “union families” and what have the Democrats done for private-sector families, except regulate and tax their businesses it into oblivion.

Yes, indeed, elections have consequences.  And the GOP is only getting started; it’s only been two months.

See what I don’t understand, is why they have not issued arrest warrents and call on the FBI (since they have crossed state lines) to track these lawbreakers down?

That’s what I would have done. Let’s stop playing paddy-cake with these people.

what they have done is not criminal. Had they been in the state, the gov could use police to compel them to attend via being escorted back into session, but since they went across state lines and no actual criminal offense occurred, no other states police would arrest them.

But what can and should be done are two things: recall is the first and the second is make sure their cowardly acts are in the forefront of voters in just over a year. That and stop payment on their salary.

The Senate cannot charge the fleebaggers with a crime, that being the jurisdiction of the district attorneys. Maybe they can cobble together a finding that the fleebaggers are in violation of the Rules and serve them with some kind of civil paper finding them in contempt, demanding that they appear and threatening disqualification for failure to appear. The civil papers can be served in Illinois. If they appear – OK. If they don’t, find them in contempt and in fortfieture of their seat(s).

It appears that the Senate has broad authority to determine the qualifications of a member. Failure to appear could become a reason for disqualification. The question then becomes does the quorum requirement apply to the number of duly elected and qualified Senators or to the total number of senate seats to be filled by election.

don’t give in on this or give the Democrats an inch. Hold fast and beat them at their own game. The progressive party will name call and whine and try to use public opinion to squirm out of things, but it seems to me that this time if our side just stays the course we will force them to the table on our terms – we can actually begin to reverse some of the terrible policies of the past. The R’s just have to keep speaking the truth and not letting the other side lie their way out of things yet again.

when you need him? Dog got famous on a case in CA when he went to Mexico and apprehended Andrew Luster, the heir to the Max Factor fortune against the laws of Mexico. This would make for some great TV if he went to Chicago and brought back a Senator or two and handed them over to the state police. Actually, this drama is good for the GOP because even the liberal rags in the surrounding area are saying that this snit fit is improper.

Mark Miller, the Wisconsin Senate Minority Leader, should be serving as an example of how an senior statesmen behaves.

Instead, he has violated his oath, his constituents trust, and now it seems Senate Rule 23!

There are homegrown recall campaigns springing up in Wisconsin and I urge you all to support them by visiting their sites, contributing to their operation and “liking” their facebook pages. If you live in a district with a senator eligible for recall, get involved and circulate petitions.

For instance, visit http://RecallMarkMiller.com to see how you can get involved with Miller’s recall movement. Recalling Miller, the minority leader, would send an especially strong message. If you’re outside of Miller’s district look up “Recall Mark Miller” on facebook and choose “Like” to show your support.

http://RecallJim.com is a site for recalling Jim Holperin, one of the AWOL senators that only narrowly won election and is especially vulnerable. If you’re outside Holperin’s district look up “Recall Jim Holperin” on facebook and choose “Like” to show your support.

These are grassroots efforts being led by ordinary citizens and they need your support. I know because I’m leading the Mark Miller recall!

I never wanted to join book face, but I will, just to give my support.
      It would be GrassRoots. ;)
      Don’tcha think?
