John Hughes RIP…..Open Thread…..

I’m sure that some of you heard that John Hughes died yesterday of a massive heart attack.  As a child (and teenager) of the 80′s, John Hughes’ movies were a rite of passage for me and I look back upon them, as well as that time in my life, with great nostalgia. Enjoy the video montage of Hughes’ movies below.  It is teh awesome–as was John Hughes.

This diary is cross-posted on The Minority Report.

man, those clips of films bring me back… What great and fond memories I have of 1979-1989, It was great growing up as a child born in 1976 during the 80′s, you can disagree with me but the 80′s were happy times for me and my family and friends. Great times, and those movies stuck to those memories, so everytime I see them I can remember what I was doing at the time. BTW, I miss Reagan.

especially if he can remember his parents complaining about Carter.

as President. Being born in the 200th anniversary of our country’s birth and seeing what our country has become is a quick trip to a curmudgeon status.

Masterpieces of modern comedy! “Uncle Buck” has its moments also!

In the first one. as John Candy drives the wrong direction on a freeway late at night and Steve Martin sleeps, a couple in a car parallel them and yell: “You’re going the wrong way!”

Steve Martin (half-asleep): “What’s going on?”
    John Candy: “Ah they’re nuts!”
Couple screaming at 60 mph: “You’re…going…the…wrong…way!!!!”
John Candy: “Ah they’re drunk! How would they know where we’re going?”
Steve Martin (thinking about this): “Yeah, how would they know where we’re going?”

    And here come the tractor-trailers!

It struck me this is a great metaphor of our present situation: We are the ones yelling “You’re going the wrong way!” and being called drunk – and worse – by the Dems in the car!

Although, I also loved Sixteen Candles as well (I wish that this video had more scenes from Pretty in Pink in it, but otherwise, it was really cool).

My favorite line from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was from Ed Rooney–”So that’s how it is in their family”.

Anyway, now that you’ve mentioned that hilarious scene, I think that I will watch Planes, Trains and Automobiles this weekend.

One of my favorite songs, a great beat is “If You Leave” by Orchestral Manoeuvres in The Dark. When I hear that song I literally stop and listen. Now I have to go and listen to it.

It’s an absolutely awesome completion on 80′s new wave songs. “Wouldn’t it be Good” (by Danny Hutton Hitters) is my favorite song on it, but I also love “If You Leave” as well.
