Governor John Hoevan; Team Player

You see Mike Huckabee, this is how it’s done.

John Hoeven has a secure job as the Governor of North Dakota, but he is one of the only Republicans in North Dakota that can make a viable run at Senator Byron Dorgan, who is up for re-election in 2010.

Dorgan is popular; that is undeniable. But Obama is tacking hard Left and North Dakota is not a hard Left state. Dorgan can afford to be a puppet for the Democratic leadership because he has nothing to fear – until now.

Hoevan told the AP that he is considering running against Dorgan and that he will make his decision in September.

This is huge for this legislative session. North Dakota Congressman Earl Pomeroy was one of the most vocal Democrats to oppose the cap and trade legislation. It is a terrible bill for Midwestern agricultural interests. Dorgan knows this as does Kent Conrad.

If Hoevan runs, he risks much. So if he runs, he should have the full and complete backing of the base. Even if he does not, he needs to be commended for stepping up to the plate and putting some pressure of Dorgan for the cap and trade vote.

These free rides for Democratic Senators in Red and Purple states have to stop. We need to hold Senators like Landrieu and Lincoln accountable to the people they represent.

On the money, swamp

Huckabee should take notice indeed. He simply is not going to ever be the president of the United States, but he could do much good simply by knocking off Lincoln or Price. And in AR, he wins in a runaway against either, I would think.
