How American Decline Led to the Rise of an American Caudillo

Something about barring the barn door after the jackass has bolted through the field…

Today, House Speaker Paul Ryan (rightly) called for Republicans to put principles over personalities.

From Newsmax:

“’I have not seen the kind of bitterness in our politics like we have today,’ the Wisconsin Republican said in a new YouTube video. ‘I got to say it’s both sides. I’d love to say it’s just Democrats — but it’s not, it’s both.

‘It doesn’t have to be that way,’ Ryan said. ‘America can do better.’”

We are, indeed, living in an adversarial society. The decline began in 2008, when the most divisive, corrupt candidate to date, Barack Obama, managed to harness the angst of social justice warriors and Democratic Socialists into a cohesive machine and rode it straight to the White House.

Republicans offered little resistance along the way, even squandering a 2010 midterm election sweep of the House and Senate in the subsequent years, offering up the most impotent majority in modern history.

Obama has been able to get almost everything he wanted, which amounts to a disastrous tearing down of the core of American life and attacks on free speech, the family, religious freedoms, and a host of other issues that have largely separated America from nations ruled by despots.

Enter Donald Trump – longtime Clinton family pal and Democrat donor.

People are angry. Liberals are angry because their credo requires they play the perpetual victim, while pressing their boot heels into the throat of society.

Everybody else is angry because the government has done little to free them to live productive lives.

Trump played on that anger, coupled it with the ignorance of a large portion of society, who don’t know policy, but who do know reality TV, and a new malignancy was born.

Following the Obama presidency with a Trump nomination is the equivalent of the national body developing terminal cancer then running to contract AIDS as a treatment option.

Author, Brad Thor, has a sobering notion of what an America under a President Trump would look like.

Speaking on Glenn Beck’s radio program this morning, Thor, who is a firm member of the #NeverTrump movement, painted this picture:

“’I have been mistakenly comparing him to a potential Mussolini, and about a week ago, Foreign Affairs did an amazing article about the Caudillos – the strongmen of Latin America, and THAT is who Trump is. He is a Chavez. He is a Perőn. That is the type of guy he is, and I guarantee you… during his presidency, he is going to petition the American people to allow a temporary suspension of the Constitution, so that he can help America get back on its feet again.”

Thor went on to ask the hypothetical question:

“’With the feckless, spineless Congress we have, who will stand in the way of Donald Trump overstepping his Constitutional authority as president?’”

If the down ballot races falter under the weight of the bad press the Clinton organization is about to unleash on Trump, that may not be a problem. Should he make it through the general election, a Democrat-led Congress will pound him relentlessly and either he goes a step too far and gives them ammunition for impeachment, or he resigns in frustration and writes the presidency off as another bad business deal.

Either way, we have no good choices and we should all prepare for the worst.

In the words of Thor:

“’We had some of our best and brightest… on the GOP side lined up in this primary and he steamrolled all of them. And he didn’t do it with great ideas. He did it by being an ass! By insulting them! By making things up! How do you debate with somebody who pulls facts out of his butt?’”

You don’t, and our nation, including those who made this possible, will have to live with the consequences.
