LABOR SHORTS #4: Exposing Today’s Union Bosses One Skid Mark at a Time
[Cross-posted on LaborUnionReport.com’s blog] Vol. 1, Issue 4 It’s Friday and our socks are soaked as Mother Nature drops an early winter Nor’easter on the Eastern third of the U.S. (yep, even some snow flurries in October!). Nevertheless, we persevere in order to provide you with our fourth installment of LaborUnionReport’s Labor Shorts, where we expose another week’s worth of shenanigans from today’s union bosses. | Read More »
Absence of Erroneously-Named Employee Free Choice Act Has Union Bosses Getting Antsy
From the diaries by Erick Union bosses have the federal government all sewn up. They’ve got a lock on the White House, they’ve got a lock on the Senate, as well as the House of Representatives. So, what’s the problem? Immediately following the election, the President-Elect appointed the AFL-CIO’s Ellen Moran to be White House Communications Director (she has since moved on to the census-controlling | Read More »
After Health Care, the Orwellian Employee Free Choice Act is Next on the Dem Agenda
If you thought individual rights are under seige today, here’s something you may not know: Union bosses and Democrats (which has become the de facto Labor Party in the U.S. today) have a plan that will further cause your individual rights to deteriorate, increase unemployment, as well as help establish one-party rule for years to come. It’s a hallucinogencially-named bill called the Employee Free Choice Act (or EFCA). For over | Read More »
AFL-CIO tries to gobble up Douglas County, CO School District
Castle Rock, CO In the 1930’s, labor unions got legitimacy. Under the Roosevelt administration, labor unions got protection and the ability to organize industrial laborers. The Unions then represented workers who made things. The United Auto Workers, Mineworkers, Steelworkers, etc. It was good to be a Union boss. Now we are in the 21st century and so many U.S. manufacturing jobs have disappeared. Unions have | Read More »
Obama creates (not just saves) 670 new jobs!
From a report about the opening of the AFL-CIO convention that Obama is genuflecting before speaking at today…. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., sent the convention videotaped hellos with effusive praise. “I look forward to working with your leadership team in the future,” Pelosi said. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis echoed Pelosi in her speech Monday. She also called Sweeney | Read More »
D.C.’s Boogy Man
High-frequency trading Obama and his minions continue their attack on capitalism. Scheming with the ACL-CIO, democrat politicians seek to impose a tax on investment firms that earn billions of dollars in profit through high-frequency trading. From The Hill : The nation’s largest labor union and some allied Democrats are pushing a new tax that would hit big investment firms such as Goldman Sachs reaping billions | Read More »
Coercive Techniques, Torture and Mayhem: Situational Ethics 101
Misleading statements, (empty) threats of physical violence, harassing and disrespectful language, nap deprivation: the CIA is accused of employing these and other ethically troubling techniques in the interrogation of Khalid Sheikh “Bluto” Mohammad and other al Qaeda operatives in the War on Terror the Great Unpleasantness. This being a cruel world, however, we must recognize that there is a time and place for everything. We | Read More »
Leftwing Grassroots Are Made of Rubber by a Union
I wrote the other day about Sen. Ben Cardin’s (D-MD) townhall in Maryland. Senator Cardin, you will recall, had his townhall co-sponsored with the SEIU and ACORN. Additionally, his office sent an email to the AFL-CIO, which then forwarded it out, asking Obamacare supporters to attend the event in order to fill the seats and keep out pro-America supporters1. The whole thing was another example | Read More »
What’s Faker Than Astroturf?
Stop right there with the Pelosi-parts jokes. I have to see my children with these eyes. I’m only asking because A) I’m getting word overload on “astroturf” and B) astroturf isn’t part of a nefarious plot to drive grass out of existence, so I’m not sure it really fits here. Yesterday, I posted a story here at RedState featuring screenshots of advertisements from around the | Read More »
Uncut Video of President Obama’s Emphatic Support of a Single Payer System
According to the White House, the video shot in 2003 that you are about to watch gives a “very false impression.” It sure is easy to get this “very false impression” when you take the President at his word. Or when President Obama over-ruled his Chief of Staff to support MoveOn.org’s push for a public plan option in the House and Senate health reform bills, | Read More »
Richard Trumka, the Next Boss of Union Bosses, Talks…
From the LaborUnionReport.com blog post An interesting interview with the next AFL-CIO boss Richard Trumka is appearing in The Nation. What is particularly interesting about the interview is not the typical pro-union pablum that Trumka puts out (no different than his soon-to-be predecessor John Sweeney), but his outright shot at the Service Employees International Union. “The raiding stuff is a zero-sum game,” he says, singling | Read More »
Mayors inexplicably upset over White House’s priorities.
This is fascinating, really: Mayors angry with White House no-show America’s big-city mayors are steaming over what they view as “a very dangerous precedent” set by the Obama administration in its decision to shun the U.S. Conference of Mayors annual meeting in Providence, R.I., this week. In its attempt to honor the picket line of a local firefighters union involved in a labor dispute with | Read More »
AFL-CIO Uses Bulgarian Website to Advocate for Congress to Act on EFCA
What, there aren’t any websites run by American workers and hosted in the USA that the AFL-CIO’s Building and Construction Trades Department could find to host its press releases? Apparently not as far as the union is concerned, anyway, because a press release to push a Washington conference in support of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) is hosted on PR-USA.net, a misleadingly named site | Read More »
Union Execs Meet at Swanky Resort Hotel
As union members lose their jobs all across the country, the AFL-CIO executive council met at a luxury hotel in Miami Beach, Florida this week. The union bigwigs met at the Fontainebleau where the cheapest room rings up at $400 dollars a night. Were I a union member, I might take exception to such extravagance for union bosses. Especially in an economy like this.
Card Check’s Powerful New Opponent
Would you want to defy McDonalds? Two of America’s largest unions have denounced McDonald’s Corp. this week following Crain’s story that the company is mobilizing franchisees against a law designed to make it easier for workers to unionize. The Service Employee International Union encouraged its 1.8 million members to send letters to McDonald’s in support of the proposed Employee Free Choice Act. The AFL-CIO issued | Read More »
