(Now-Republican) Alabaman[***] legislature strikes blow for individual liberty.

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  May 8th at 02:00 PM  |

Legalizing homebrewing, of course. The Alabama Senate tonight gave final passage to the homebrewing bill, possibly ending Alabama’s status as the only state in which homebrewing is still illegal. “Alabama is literally the last state that makes homebrew legal, assuming the governor signs it,”said Sen. Bill Holtzclaw,R-Madison. The Alabama legislature was, of course, controlled by the Democratic party until the historic elections of 2010; homebrewing | Read More »

Does The US Welfare System Benefit Jihadists?

    By: Repair_Man_Jack (Diary)  |  April 24th at 12:00 PM  |

Our government, our media and the increasingly auto-beclowning supporters of our current national Zeitgeist strive manfully athwart ratiocination to rapidly disconnect the dots on The Boston Marathon Terror Bombing. Like the brilliant government bureaucrat who classified the Major Nidal Hasan’s Fort Hood Jihad Spray-Job as workplace violence, they aren’t lying per se. They’re just bull-(radio edit). Like the evil Jack Nicholson character in A Few Good Men, their operational assumption with respect to the American People is “You can’t handle the truth.”

The truth we supposedly can’t handle, quite simply is this.

State officials confirmed last night that Tsarnaev, slain in a raging gun battle with police last Friday, was receiving benefits along with his wife, Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, and their 3-year-old daughter. The state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services said those benefits ended in 2012 when the couple stopped meeting income eligibility limits. Russell Tsarnaev’s attorney has claimed Katherine — who had converted to Islam — was working up to 80 hours a week as a home health aide while Tsarnaev stayed at home. In addition, both of Tsarnaev’s parents received benefits, and accused brother bombers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan were recipients through their parents when they were younger, according to the state. The news raises questions over whether Tsarnaev financed his radicalization on taxpayer money *

Deutschland Meets Detroit: UAW partners with German union to launch all-out invasion of Mercedes & VW plants in U.S.

By: LaborUnionReport (Diary)  |  April 16th at 11:00 PM  |

    Detroit City Limits

Not withstanding the UAW’s contribution to the decline of Detroit’s Big Three, it’s been more than two years since the UAW’s Bob King announced his union’s intent to “shame” foreign auto makers into unionizing their American workers through “blackmail.”

Moreover, it’s been nearly two years since the UAW’s King began talks with the German union IG Metal and VW’s works council.

With some set backs, to date, progress at unionizing foreign automakers’ U.S. operations has been slow going for Detroit’s most progressive union boss–to say the least.

Now, even as the UAW fights with its own employees, things have begun to heat up in the South.

Hey Mo Brooks, Don’t Worry, You Aren’t a Member

By: Erick Erickson (Diary)  |  March 12th at 10:05 AM  |

The other day I mentioned what is shaping up to be a conservative fight club, though admittedly violating the first rule of the fight club by pointing it out. But there are ten conservatives in the House willing to fight Republican leaders to advance a conservative agenda. It just so happens that Mo Brooks joined with these ten men in the vote against the rule | Read More »

Holding Them Accountable – Richard Shelby Edition

    By: Repair_Man_Jack (Diary)  |  February 26th at 10:53 AM  |

In many states and many places people believe that elections are the only time participation is required in a Democracy. You show up, you vote, you wash your hands of it until they bother you again. Many citizens vote the way many loosely-affiliated Christians trek over to the local church once on Christmas and again on Easter. Check the block. Move on with life. Never mind that you are being robbed blind and governed dishonestly as soon as your back is turned.

Fortunately for us, regrettably for Republican Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama, not all Americans have degenerated into Amerikans. Quite a few people in Alabama found the time and volition to turn away from another riveting episode of SpongeBob. It seems they are engaged in behavior hostile to the continued cavorting of our disingenuous politicians. Fortunately, the GOP rank and file in Alabama did not take kindly to Senator Shelby’s having announced his support of Secretary of Defense nominee and former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel.

    ROLL TIDE!

    By: Repair_Man_Jack (Diary)  |  November 13th at 05:30 PM  |

It was The State of Alabama, under Governor Wallace in the 1960’s who helped caused Federalism to fall into disrepute at the expense of the American commonweal. It is perhaps only fitting that a governor of Alabama do what is necessary to reinstate Federalism as a valuable weapon by which America resists totalism and tyranny that overcome less robust systems of national governance than our own. Governor Robert Bentleytook to the social media to plant the axiom that Alabama would not succumb to the constitutional travesty that is Obamacare. He tweeted the following:

Alabama will not establish a Health Insurance Exchange and We will not expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.

The Sins Of The Sin Tax

    By: Repair_Man_Jack (Diary)  |  September 25th at 01:00 PM  |

Economist Paul Samuelson was once asked to explain how sin taxes worked. He offered up the following commentary.

“Sin Taxes” are so called because they are levied on those commodities, such as tobacco and alcohol, which are the objects of widespread disapproval. “Such taxes,” Paul Samuelson says, “are often tolerated because most people–including many cigarette smokers and moderate drinkers–feel that there is something vaguely immoral about tobacco and alcohol. They think these ”sin taxes“ stun two birds with one stone: the state gets revenue, and vice is made more expensive.”

    (HT: Acton Institute)

This is absolutely what has not happened in New York since Mein Obama and Gropenfurher Bloomberg have decided they would levy exorbitant sin taxes on tobacco products in New York City. Newsday.com describes the destructively regressive nature of the sin taxes on tobacco below.

It’s Not a Good Year in Gadsden, Alabama

    By: Repair_Man_Jack (Diary)  |  September 18th at 10:30 AM  |

America has yet another reason to grow tired of Barack Obama’s failed economic policies. On the same day he released a new campaign ad entitled “Tires,” Goodyear Tire and Rubber Incorporated seems to have cracked an axle. As the travails of President Obama’s failed government corporatism hit home, I read the following from The Gadsden Times. According to press reports, the plant in Danville, Va., | Read More »

Tech at Night: More on Republican support of the Marketplace Fairness Act

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  September 1st at 02:00 AM  |

    Tech at Night

Governors Robert Bentley, Mitch Daniels, Dennis Daugaard, Bill Haslam, Paul LePage, Rick Snyder, and Tom Corbett are part of push for the Marketplace Fairness act. I’ve come across a July letter to John Boehner, Harry Reid, Mitch McConnell, and Nancy Pelosi. I find it odd they’d do so now, unless they think they have no chance under a potential Republican Congress. Could that be the case? I wonder.

And yes, those are all Republican governors, some of whom were part of the 2010 landslide. It’s only Republicans I’m seeing back MFA, not Democrats. Democrats are fine with just passing new taxes or raising old ones. They aren’t as hard up to maximize collections of old taxes as Republicans are.

In Artur Davis And Erskine Bowles The Democrats Lose Two Serious People

    By: Repair_Man_Jack (Diary)  |  May 30th at 11:30 AM  |

If you claim that doom awaits, but in 50 years, only the 1% of the population with the brains and character to think ahead are going to care about what you’re talking about. The 99% are going to change the channel. (HT: Brett Stevens) I’ve been harshly critical of The “Democratic Wing” of The Democratic Party for organizing itself as a Visigoth Holiday that eats | Read More »

Tuesday night’s story was one of effective campaigning, not personality

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  March 14th at 12:00 AM  |

There is a rush tonight to try to identify the true interpretation of the Republican electoral results. Many of them will be shared on the Internet, but this one is mine. This wasn’t the first close race. Mitt Romney has won them previously. What’s different about tonight is that Rick Santorum pulled it off this time, This defied expectations, and went counter to everything I | Read More »

It’s Game On in Alabama and Mississippi

By: Daniel Horowitz (Diary)  |  March 12th at 09:01 PM  |

We have spent all year inveighing against flaccid Republicans capitulating to the forces of big government.  Well, as the polls open in Alabama and Mississippi, now is our time to shine.  No – I’m not referring to the presidential election where we have a choice between several ‘evils of three lesser;’ I’m referring to the congressional elections. As we noted last week, Spencer Bachus (Al-6) | Read More »

Take Out Bonner and Bachus in Alabama

By: Daniel Horowitz (Diary)  |  March 9th at 02:00 PM  |

Last week, I bemoaned the fact that Alabama is one of the most conservative states, yet it sports a mediocre congressional delegation.  Alabama has one of the earliest congressional primaries; they will overlap with the presidential primary this coming Tuesday.  It turns out that several of the incumbents have primary challengers. The one sane Republican in the state, Mo Brooks (CD-5) is being challenged by | Read More »

Your Entire House Delegation is Fired!

By: Daniel Horowitz (Diary)  |  February 28th at 10:45 AM  |

“The Tea Party was born out of the conviction that gov’t shouldn’t pick winners and losers, yet that is all these losers have done in Congress.” If you think that the 2010 elections cleared out all of the dead wood from the House, you need to think again.  If you think that our only intra-party problems emanate from blue-district Republicans, you need a reality check. | Read More »
