    Divorcing sex from marriage

By: John Hayward  |  May 8th at 04:41 PM  |

“Aha!” cried liberals across the land, when the election returns from South Carolina came in, and the zombie political corpse of Mark Sanford had somehow managed to score a landslide victory over the vivacious Elizabeth Colbert Busch.  ”Now we’ve got you right where we want you, Republicans!  Your hypocrisy on family values will be your undoing!” The idea is to tear off Representative-Elect Sanford’s zombie arm – | Read More »

A Missed Opportunity on Housing Policy

By: Daniel Horowitz (Diary)  |  September 24th at 12:11 PM  |

There’s nothing that exemplifies the deleterious effects of government intervention into the private sector than the housing market.  Bill Clinton’s National Homeownership Strategy did to the housing sector what Obamacare will do for the healthcare sector.  His administration created entire offices and programs dedicated to forcing banks to underwrite risky mortgages under the dubious goal of universal home ownership.  Concurrently, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac | Read More »

Bill Clinton's Bounce: How Media Conventional Wisdom Works

Polling is reflecting Bill Clinton’s bounce out of the Democratic National Convention. You wouldn’t know that if you listened to most of the media, but the bounce belonged not to Obama, but to Clinton. Fortunately for the GOP, Barack Obama is no Bill Clinton. It must privately grate on Barack Obama. The media narrative is all about Barack Obama. He’s going to win. He’s ahead. | Read More »

The Alternative Universe and the Media Feedback Loop

Yesterday in Charlotte the Democratic National Convention began as amateurishly as President Obama’s first term has been. Three times Mayor Villaraigosa of Los Angeles tried to get a majority of Democratic delegates to agree to add God and Jerusalem back into the Democratic Platform. Three times he failed. But on the third time, he declared he heard a two-thirds vote for changing the platform. Debbie | Read More »

My Take on Bill Clinton’s Speech

By: Erick Erickson (Diary)  |  September 6th at 12:47 AM  |

Bill Clinton always gives a great speech. I’m not going to knock his speech. Yes, it was filled with factual errors. But this was a convention speech. He played to the crowd and they were putty in his hands. I do think the delivery and pacing were a bit slow. I do think he shined best when either beating up the GOP, which he clearly | Read More »

    The Democrats Going To Charlotte

    By: Repair_Man_Jack (Diary)  |  September 4th at 12:00 PM  |

The Republican Party lost the White House to a vastly different Democratic Party in 1992 than the lost it to in 2008. The Democratic Party of 1992 represented an effort by the Democrats to communicate with poorer families, living in what are termed “working class neighborhoods.” The modern Democratic Party views these people as a legacy population that the state will just have to support. The difference in composition between the previous Democratic Party championed by Bill Clinton and the newer Democratic Party represented by Barack Obama has led to a situation that has put Barack Obama squarely on the defensive for the past three years of his Presidency. It may well have been the final impetus for The Jacksonian uprising that dubbed itself The Tea Party.

Joel Kotkin writes in the Daily Beast about this phenomenon. He opines that “Barack Obama’s New Chicago Politics Abandon Bill Clinton’s Winning Coalition.” He makes some particularly valid points about the Democratic Party and its new coalition that properly address the New Left gravamen of the Democratic Party. This explains well the policy choices this organization would make if they were given unlimited power.

Forward Back Across the Bridge to the 21st Century

Today, in Charlotte, NC, the Democrats will convene their convention to re-nominate Barack Obama as President of the United States. There are two ironies they will do their best to ignore. First, four years after a concerted effort to paint Bill Clinton as a racist, Barack Obama depends on Bill Clinton’s presence and blessings to secure his re-election. Second, and most importantly, after a several | Read More »

Did the White House make Bill Clinton recant opposition to job-killing tax hikes?

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  June 6th at 07:00 PM  |

As the American Action Forum (AAF) notes, pretty much. Quick background: it more or less got overlooked, but former President Clinton argued yesterday (June 5th) that it would be advisable for the ‘Bush tax cuts’ (which is Dizzy-City speak for ‘current tax baseline’) to be ‘temporarily’ (read: ‘permanently’) instituted, even if it would benefit the ‘wealthiest Americans’ (translation: it’s probably not a good idea to | Read More »

Obama Wants to Redistribute Our Sovereignty with the Law of the Sea Treaty

By: Jake (Diary)  |  May 28th at 01:25 PM  |

From the diaries by Neil One of the problems we find in politics these days is the rash of bills with rather Orwellian titles. The best example in recent years is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (you know, Obamacare). But fortunately, some things have titles that are all too appropriate. The Law of the Sea Treaty is one of them, which is rather | Read More »

Top story seems to be that The Obama/Holder Justice Department has no problem with Google’s vertical integration takeover of Motorola Mobility. Interesting. I also await word on whether Google will drop all aggressive patent lawsuits, as they claim to use patents only defensively. Some people never learn. Google | Read More »

Barack Obama Throws Bill Clinton Under the Bus

By: Erick Erickson (Diary)  |  December 15th at 04:47 AM  |

Historically when the left takes power in a country they begin to rewrite their history. Barack Obama, a quintessential leftist, has started doing that in the run up to his re-election. In his speech in Kansas last week, Obama claimed that at no time in our history had we ever spurred economic growth and prosperity by cutting taxes and deregulating.
