Fewer Presents, but an Indescribable Gift

My wife and I just returned from our first ever trip to the Holy Land. Especially at this time of the year, it was something we’ll never forget and hope all get to experience some day. First, God showed us his sovereign power with a “100 year” snowstorm in Jerusalem that scrambled our plans as the ancient and most controversial of all cities in the | Read More »

    A Jewish Christmas Story

A star marks the spot where Jesus was born in Bethlehem now covered by the Church of the Nativity.  Author’s Note: This piece was originally posted on December 22, 2013. Today, on Christmas Eve 2014, I am reposting it again because last year I was so uplifted by the positive feedback I received through personal emails from readers.  My love for | Read More »

Project Advent Tree: Putting the Christmas Focus back on Christ

As this Christmas Season approached, I felt a stirring in my heart to recenter focus on the Miracle of Christmas, and as my focus began to shift I wondered: What if, instead of focusing on filling the base of our tree with presents and paper, ribbons and bows, we filled its branches with our prayers? What if we gave our hearts to God this Advent Season to magnify His greatness? What fruit would our tree bear?

So this Advent, as we prepare for the coming of Christ, we have made our Christmas Tree into an Advent Tree – a tree filled with the prayers of our fellow men, which we will offer to the Lord on Christmas Night. Will you give us the gift of adorning our tree with your prayers? The joy of praying for you and your loved ones this Advent Season? The honor of offering your prayers to Jesus on Christmas Night?

The Non Religious Winter Birth Diorama

by Chris Shugart It’s become the most politically incorrect time of the year. More and more, timid holiday revelers feel compelled to avoid any and all Christian references connected to the—uh—season. It was Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly that popularized the term “War on Christmas” about a decade ago, and it continues to be an annual battle that shows no signs of letting up. Merry Christmas

Is Christmas about Christ, or is it about reindeer? Why, yes.Christmas is when Christians celebrate of the virgin birth of Jesus the Christ, Y’shua the Messiah, in a manger in Bethlehem. It’s a tale of wise men (who weren’t there) and shepherds (who were).

    Taking Stock Heading Into 2013

The second half of December tends to generate a fair amount of reflection on the events of the previous 12 months. That is true for investors as well and often gives rise to a number of questions about the market. Did the economy grow as fast as was expected? Did job growth measure up to economists’ forecasts? Will those industries that have been a drag | Read More »

Jeff Kottkamp: The spirit of giving will warm your heart

About a month ago, I was traveling with my family when we stopped in Gainesville for gas. After I brought our truck to a stop I noticed a homeless man leaning on a bicycle only 10 feet away. It was obvious that everything the man owned was strapped to his bicycle. When I parked, he didn’t look at us. He didn’t look at anyone. He | Read More »

Santa averts Christmas Eve work stoppage.

Santa has apparently averted a reindeer strike that would have threatened gift delivery on Christmas Eve. Rudolph, Comet and Blitzen threatened the strike and appointed Donner as negotiator on their behalf. Once Donner presented the demands that he said justified the strike, Santa immediately broke off negotiations and flew (by commercial airline) to Muleshoe, Texas. While in Muleshoe, he will recruit and train a team | Read More »

“MERRY CHRISTMAS,” Did I say something wrong?

Despite the attack on Christmas, it is good to know according to a poll conducted by Marist and the Knights of Columbus two-thirds of Americans prefer to say “Merry Christmas” over “Happy Holidays”. Now Some Christmas Humor:

Hitchens Hell, Purgatorio and Merry Christmas

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. – John 1:14 Third Century Christian theologian Origen deemed the celebrations of birthdays the work of sinners, not saints; and so opposed the celebration of the birth of Jesus as if he were a pharaoh or king. | Read More »
