“MERRY CHRISTMAS,” Did I say something wrong?

Despite the attack on Christmas, it is good to know according to a poll conducted by Marist and the Knights of Columbus two-thirds of Americans prefer to say “Merry Christmas” over “Happy Holidays”. Now Some Christmas Humor:

Hitchens Hell, Purgatorio and Merry Christmas

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. – John 1:14 Third Century Christian theologian Origen deemed the celebrations of birthdays the work of sinners, not saints; and so opposed the celebration of the birth of Jesus as if he were a pharaoh or king. | Read More »

    It’s Christmas Time

As you can tell I have not been posting much this month.   I just have not had much extra time to write about all the aggravating garbage that has been going on politically. The two main topics this month have been the Republican primary and the payroll tax holiday. It’s Christmas time so I’m going to be quick and charitable in what I have to say. As | Read More »

Gay Liberation Network Boycotts Salvation Army

The one charity that has the lowest administrative costs (i.e. more of your donation actually gets to the needy) is being boycotted by the Gay Liberation Network. Why? Because it adheres to its religious beliefs. It stands up for what it believes in. (Ever notice that folks who admire others who “stand up for what they believe in” almost invariably don’t appreciate it when they | Read More »

    Christmas Terror in Nigeria

Christians in Nigeria face terror this Christmas Day, as reported by CNN: The Christmas Eve attacks in the volatile Nigerian city of Jos have claimed at least 31 lives, a bloody aftermath in a region long torn by Christian and Muslim hostility. Choji Gyang, a special adviser to the governor of the west African country’s Plateau state, confirmed the death toll on Saturday, and said | Read More »

    The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Wherever you live on the planet, the jolly red-faced gentleman, hitching up his pants around his portly frame, will have visited you by now. Er… no, I’m not referring to Barney Frank! The Christmas holiday is a time to chill out (or perhaps ‘freeze’ would be a better description, Mr Gore!) and try to forgive those that have done us wrong throughout the year. There’s | Read More »

For the Dual Citizens Among Us, Carol Excerpts on the Incomprehensibility of the Incarnation

Recent references to Christmas on the site have emphasized its benefits in realms ranging from cultural to redemptive; its helpfulness in improving the state of that precious location, the interior life*, has been variously extolled. The enduring Christmas carols, taken as a whole, emphasize many aspects of Jesus’ advent and birth–prophecy revealed and fulfilled, the local manifestations of drama which occurred when the eternal covenant | Read More »

Lenin and The Symbols of the Seasons

You may think it strange that Christmas makes me think of V I Lenin, the founder of the USSR. But for 50 years he was the symbol of everything good and holy in a powerful and sizeable portion of the world. As Mark Twain once said of the Devil, “anyone who is spiritual head of half the world…and political head of the whole of it” | Read More »

    CONAD, NORAD, Santa, and Scrooges

I’ve seen a few Facebook and several Twitter posts that sound a great deal like Scrooge. “Christmas! A fine excuse for NORAD to pick the taxpayer’s pocket every 25th of December!” from the childless who have apparently lost their inner child, and a few rueful remarks from parents who are suffering through the throes of their kid clicking Refresh every couple of minutes to see where Santa is RIGHT NOW! But the rueful parents will smile at the memory, as will their kids in later years.

As for the Scrooges: Get over yourselves.
