Over/under on Daschle withdrawing?

e’s got the New York Times calling for his removal (check out Hot Air for appropriate scorn at the way that the Grey Lady is weaseling on this one), there was a quid pro quo between Daschle and the guy who gave him the car and chauffeur, and the best defense that Obama’s press sacrificial victim secretary could come up with?

    Democrats and Republicans: Dump Daschle!

Maybe I don’t have to remind Republicans, but a special shout out to my Senators: Mr Cornyn and Ms Hutchison, if you can do it under the rules, please place Mr. Daschle in your back pocket and sit on his nomination! To the Democrats: please remember all the kind words Mr Daschle had for you as Minority and Majority leader. Do you really want to | Read More »

    Confirm Tom Daschle

Why has Tom Daschle been paid over $4.5 million in the four years since losing his Senate seat (not to mention his wife’s lucrative career as a lobbyist)? Because it is believed – correctly – that Tom Daschle can get you government contracts; or spare you from government regulation; or get the government to regulate your competitors. “Daschle should serve as a constant reminder of | Read More »

Daschle – Can somebody clue me in here?

ABC is reporting that HHS nominee Tom Daschle is facing “controversy” over a “mistake” by “forgetting” to declare as income the free use of limousine and driver lent by a “friend” for whom he did paid consulting. He “happened” to notice this just before Obama’s election, and went back and paid over $100K in back taxes and interest (and apparently $0 in penalties, just like | Read More »

    Reading Your Opposition’s Works

From the diaries by Erick Case in point: Tom Daschle, former US Senator from SD, and Senate Majority/Minority leader in late 90s and early 2000s. Daschle, tapped by Mr. Obama to be Secretary of Health and Human Services next year, wrote a book that he likely now wishes no one would read. In fact, amazon.com and buy.com have no copies in stock, so he has | Read More »

Send me your health care stories

On the ever-busy Change.gov, former Sen. Tom Daschle has posted a video talking about the health care transition team and the comments he’s received. The pick for Health and Human Services Secretary says hearing compelling personal stories is most important for urging legislators to action. The Galen Institute, a nonprofit research organization dedicated to free-market ideas for health reform, wants to share people’s stories with | Read More »

New Captain at the Helm of American Healthcare

As all major news outlets are reporting , former Senator Tom Daschle has accepted an offer from President-elect Barack Obama for the post of Health and Human Services Secretary. While most people were aware that Daschle was on the short list for the job, the healthcare industry at large is not responding well to the fact that he actually got the post.
