One of the failings of our public school systems is the lack of basic economic literacy of so many of our students. Left to its own devices, the oil industry is its own worst enemy. Relatively low barriers to entry have made the industry freely competitive. The reward goes to the quickest and the most efficient companies; just like in a Gold Rush, we remember the big winners and quickly forget the also-rans. It’s rare when we Fiscal Conservatives have as clear a teachable moment as you gave us with your decision to berth the Isabel (pronounced “luxury yacht”) in Newport, RI, instead of Nantucket, MA, where you and Teresa maintain a “cottage”.
